Im Curious aside from giving the game a 3dish feel what do you think dp tiles give you... I Like the look they give you but I kinda think they look stupid with the OLD OW's So then you'll have to modify them to have a top down ish look or use a big head ow which just seems a hassle...

Well here is a sprited map i made tell me which one you like and exactly why...

Well, to me, the DP tilesets make the game look more up-to-date compared to the 3rd gen ones. However, if you're serious about making a fan-game, you should be looking to develop your own tilesets in your own style. :P

Thats a great idea but im not that good with graphics... Or atleast i dont think i am... Im new just gonna use what i have for now... maybe i'll learn some things as i go, you know... :)

The DP tileset you're using there is way too dull for my liking. The FR/LG tileset is vibrant and clean.

On the other hand, the FR/LG buildings are a bit less stylish, and some of the colours may benefit from a bit of tweaking (e.g. the grass colour).

Overall, I'd prefer the FR/LG tileset, at least to start with. It would benefit from personal tweaks, such as colour changes and new buildings and so forth.

You DO have a fourth option... HG/SS-style. There are sets in that style. And as NikNaks said, you can always make your own (editing official tiles is a good way to start).

But anyway, I am going to have to say that the DP style looks the best. FR/LG and RSE have kind of lost their luster with all the hubub of newer, updated graphics. The palette of the DP ones is a bit too dull, though.

I prefer the more DS-style. Though, you use Kyledove's tiles as an example. Actually the DS style is the best to be compared with 100% rips (so no outlines etc.)
The name of this thread should actually be 'Old look vs. Kyletile look'
I'm using my own style, and I think you should try too.

Yeah i know their kyledoves but they were in the resource pack provided by 4th gen matt... I've been searching for HG/SS tilesets and official D/P Tilesets i just cant find any i checked spriters resource and other sites but no luck so far... as for making my own I wouldnt know where to start... Like i said im new Im learning...

The sober side of the DPP makes the map more ...
    It gives a little something.

I actually have to say they look awful, for the sole reason that they don't have outlines.

I mean, the pokémon sprites are cartoons, as are the items and other stuff. Why shouldn't the maps? I think outlines work so much better, specifically in Pokémon game maps. Without them maps just look... indistinct, and I don't think that's how a Pokémon game should feel.

Of course, those tiles are nicely coloured and look great, so don't misunderstand me there. I just think they would benefit from outlines. Not huge ones, of course, but just something to define the edges of things.

Agree.. but that's just how they look officialy, so, that are DP tiles. :)
