5th Gen English Name Speculation

How about some French reference for the Water leader with "OWEN" (eau) or a variation of (EAUIN?) ?

Do they have to represent their element?

Wallace/Juan don't really scream Water to me. Iris wasn't very Dragon Like either.

According to Bulbapedia Wallance comes from "Water" IMO it seems like a contraction of Waterfall.
Back on topic: Well they usually match their looks or their typing, Juan was a looks name by the way (Don Juan- Spanish guy)
 
Wallace shares the first letter with Water, the same like Steven shares the first letter with Steel. It could be indication that they already knew Wallace will be Champion while giving him English name during R/S translation.

Gym Leaders' names don't always match their types. Considering Unova is based on US, Homika could be named Alice because she plays rock/metal - Alice in Chains, Alice Cooper. One of Alice Cooper's most known songs is called Poison, so yeah.

Agreed on that 100%. Alice is a great name for her cos it refers to Alice Cooper's song "Poison" and Homika uses well, Poison-type Pokemon.

If they don't use this, I will be a little disappointed.
 
So Keldeo changes formes in Oath Woods? I really like that name. Maybe because it makes me think of the original Fire, Water, Grass Oath thing, but still!
 
I could see Shizui with the name Wade. It fits the water type well.

After listening to the rival's theme rearranged on Youtube many times over in the past 40 minutes....and hearing Hugh.....I don't know. On one hand Hugh sounds like a tough sounding name. However...for a tough(as in physical) looking person in-game, not the rival XD

But still, I'll get used to it.

Pretty interesting choice for the rival, I wonder what default names they'll give to the protagonists... I'm hoping for a theme in the names.

Apparently it's Mei! For the girl that is. That's so cute I love that name more than Touko. :3 I wonder what it'll be in English, May? lol.

Or Hue. Hey, look at that. Another rival with a colour-themed name. I wouldn't be surprised to see him named Hugh/Hugo in the English release.

Now, the protaganists. Kyouhei and Mei. Hmm, dunno what theme, if any, there is.
 
I'm thinking Hugh or Hugo for the rival's English name since it is a pun on "hue".

Still thinking what theme to go with Kyouhei and Mei's names.
 
I've always wanted a male water-type specialist to be named Walter, but by the looks of Shizui, that certainly wouldn't match his personality.
