As far as this topic goes... I have to go with Iveechan and Nekomajo?s comments.
I just use what suites the battle more/appeals to me a bit. To me, writing battles is probably one of the most enjoyable aspects of Pokemon writing as it?s so versatile. (The battle can have this insanely serious atmosphere or this weird/zany feel yet still hold seriousness and humor if you wish it.)
But with 386 Pokemon out there, it?s hard to make a fight for every single monster, or at least, make each one shine in its own way? Esp. if you?re going to make this short battle for the underrated/overrated ones where they either win or lose. It doesn?t do any Pokemon real justice. (Unless you?re a Charizard, which deserve to be humiliated in everyway possible.) These ?joke fights? as I see them are something I?ve seen often in fics and in tournament based animes. But those fights exist simply to show off the overbearing, near untouchable strength of the main rival/opposing team or how ruthless he/she/they can be.
Something that does no justice to the poor defeated/slain plot moving fellow but its something that can?t be helped should be done in moderation not all the time.
I like to elaborate my fights for any guy(s) that?s seems fits for the combat scene. Even if its going to be a humorous one; usually, the ?joke fights? contain more well known ones in an: ?Eh, whatever, we know their stuff? prose.
