Well, Issac Gravity, I just did an experiment with my own fanfiction. Supposedly, I was able to fit 22 pages, a total of 9,179 words, into a post. So I know that you can fit more than that in a post. Don't know how much specifically, though.

This is Lily hijacking Frosty's account. =D If people don't mind, I'll randomly post reviews in it, too. I don't like my own account. Oh dear.
:x That "Oh dear" made that post a classic. It just fits.

*Whistles*

That's an insane page/word count already. While this makes me (really) happy to know, I don't think I want to put readers through that kind of pain, so I'll split the chapters in half when the situation calls for it.

Thanks.

OK, this place is pretty much dead again. Where the hell did Frost go? And how come Lily still has yet to PM me some comments? Finals should be done by now, shouldn't they?

Hi, im new

Can any of you give me some idea?

I really wanna start a fan fic but, I don't have any ideas....
---------------
--Danny boy--

*lol* Nope, we don't give out ideas here, you have to make up your own ;)

Most of my ideas just pop out of nowhere. x.x The oneshot I'm writing right now was inspired by a simple anime pic, but if I showed it with the writing people would be like.. "I don't get it."

Anyway, read other people's fics. I never, ever saw myself writing anything pokemon again but I got inspired by just reading.

I'm sure someone else will come around and give better advice, but whatever. xD

These are the main kinds of stories you see, taken from the writing guide v2:

What are the stereotypical plots in Pokemon fanfic?
-Note: stereotypical plots can be combined with one another

-?Original Trainer? A new trainer(s) set off on their own journey to be a Pokemon Master, similar to what the anime and the game has already. Traditionally, most new writers tend to jump to this type of plot first, and it is stereotyped as ?bad? fanfics.

-?Back to School? Pokemon characters go to school and this usually involves romances more than anything.

-?Dark fanfics? World of Pokemon is in huge chaos, and needs to be saved. The innocence of the Pokemon world is taken away, only to be replaced by the dark deeds that exist in the real world as well, such as murder and betrayal.

-?Team ____? Perspective is taken at a character that?s on the dark side instead of the usual heroes who fight against these teams, such as Team Rocket/Magma/Aqua.

-?Pokemon Perspective? The fanfic is through the eyes of a Pokemon rather than the usual human characters. Usually, this involves the entire story dedicated to the feelings of the Pokemon towards what the Pokemon world is like, and most of the time, this type of fanfic is filled with angst, easily tied with ?Dark fanfics.?

-?Parody? Pokemon/Pokemon Characters join part in various TV shows, or other well-known programs in the real life world, and see how will the Pokemon Characters handle each situation. Usually this type of fanfic is comedic.

What is the ?most welcomed? type of plot?
-Generally, anything but the Original Trainer because Original Trainer is stereotyped itself to be a ?bad fanfics of low quality.?
-However, some authors prefer to work against their odds. By writing a good fanfic with a plot idea that?s stereotyped as ?bad fanfics,? an author can become famous easily.

One idea for a fanfic series that I had came from a dream. xD I saw the beginning clearly in the dream, both written on the computer screen and played out in my head. I've never forgotten it.

Other ideas just come from me wanting to write about the characters. I take a few characters and just let them go at it. It worked for me.

Right now, I'm actually planning out my Pokemon fanfiction series. I've never outlined what would happen for the plot, generally just letting the characters do whatever and go in whatever direction. I'm trying to get more of a handle on them. But, I'll be honest here, I don't like plotting fics. :< Some of the magic is lost in just letting the characters go and do their own thing.

Whoo for Dark Original Trainer fanfiction.

XD Come to the Writer's Lounge, where the ideas are a dime a dozen! Right now, we're having a special on characters! Two for the price of one!

Ah, it'd be awesome if things were like that. But the novelty would wear off, at least for me. Let me use my imagination to create my characters. I like them more, then.

-

And as for Yamato-san's post: Frosty doesn't have much time for PC, due to his job. He was originally planning on just leaving PC, but I have seen him post elsewhere. As for Lily, she is around, reviewing fanfiction, but her activity has lessened.

I always have ideas. It's just that finding good ones and then making them into stories
is hard for me.

Seriously... no one should have problems having ideas. And a good writer can make any idea good, while a bad writer can ruin even the best idea... so ideas are more affected by your skill.

*shudders* Novel surplus outlets? Can't imagine seeing characters in a pack ten feet high with a little "99% OFF!" sign on it. (Buy a plot bunny, get a character couple free!)

As for the store... XD I think that's how people see us. "Hey, I'm looking for this and this. Have it in stock?"

Seriously... no one should have problems having ideas.
I dunno about that. It seems to me that imagination, where the creative ideas come from, is dying in today's world. Less people are reading, more people are living off the flashing screen. It is a shame.

Hi ^^ I've taken a break from Fanfiction primarily due to school and horrible writers block. But, I've been inspired to try out a new series..I'm not sure yet if it's going to be a one-shot or chaptered story. I'm leaning more towards a chaptered story due to the plot though. One thing I'm a bit worried about is how much the idea has been used, so I'm going to have to look that up. Does anyone here know if the idea of how contests came into being has already been done? Just thought I'd check!

That happened to me as well =O Although I didn't dream of my writing it, I just saw what was happening. It helped me get out of my writers block, that's for sure XD Though, most of my inspiration comes from the music I listen too, it helps me think of a theme and helps me set the mood for the story <33

Most of ideas I take for my stories/poems come from music. Sometimes I just grab a guitar and improvise a few verses, sometimes I'm listening to 70's rock and build a story concept out of ideas and key words. They also many times have to do with existence... Many stories of mine treat with mistakes and ocassions that have happened to me personally, sometimes accurately described, sometimes developed more deeply. I also like to quote and insidiously place references things I'm passionate about, such as songs and books.

Anyway, that's just how I kick off when I want to write something. Sometimes creativity needs to be jumpstarted, you know. It doesn't always pop out from nowhere...

You know, I never mentioned how I get my ideas. I only said how I got them for only one story, but I've got many more.

Most of my ideas just come from thinking. At my place of employment, my job doesn't involve any sort of thought process. I hate having my mind turn to slush, so I keep it active by imagining things. Sometimes, I take an item that we sell and try to come up with a story idea around it. (Came up with a bizarre idea involving toilet paper. XD; ) But that normally works.

Other times, I just get ideas from watching television or movies or listening to music. Wrote one of my favorite romance fics listening to one of my favorite love songs.

Wow. I know no-one here. O.O I should be more social.

I just posted the first episode/chapter of AnimeView. The first seasons theme is pokemon. However, because future seasons will be non-pokemon themed, I'm placing it here. ^__^

By the way, it's a quick read. Comedy. Feel free to visit!

alright, what the f*** is with you god damn literature nuts blaming all of society's problems on TV? Always saying crap like "The stuff on TV is too violent, it's nonsense that rots your brain. You should read a book instead." You have any idea how hypocritical that sounds? BTW, you also contradicted yourself by stating you get some of your ideas from watching TV just now.

Being the aspiring doujin artist that I am, I take the visual arts very seriously. God knows I've barely read a non-mandatory book (in other words, crap that wasn't required for schoolwork) in my life, yet I've got several creative ideas going on in my head.

I'm not blaming all of society's problems on the television. I even laugh at those who say that playing violent video games will make one violent.

I'm just saying that with television, a lot less people are reading. Maybe it's because I see people refusing to read the Harry Potter books because they can just see the movie. Why should one have to sit there and actually read a book when they can just see it done with flashing graphics and loud explosions.

what the f*** is with you god damn literature nuts blaming all of society's problems on TV?
Just because I take Literature classes at college makes me an absolute nutjob? I don't blame all of society's problems on television. There are other factors to take into consideration.

Always saying crap like "The stuff on TV is too violent, it's nonsense that rots your brain. You should read a book instead." You have any idea how hypocritical that sounds?
How is that hypocritical? Books rot brains? Books are violent? Okay, that I give you. Books are violent. But books rotting brains is pure nonsense.

By the way, I used to watch television. I don't anymore. I don't have time to. I don't care for it. I prefer reading over watching television, but I guess doing so just makes me a "Literature nut". And the only idea that I took from television was a character. But you know, I don't watch it anymore. So don't say that I still do just because there's no past tense verb in my post.

Being the aspiring doujin artist that I am, I take the visual arts very seriously. God knows I've barely read a non-mandatory book (in other words, crap that wasn't required for schoolwork) in my life, yet I've got several creative ideas going on in my head.
I'm not saying that doujin artists are worthless because they also have pictures. I was just raised in a home where manga and comic books are looked down upon. I really don't know why, but my parents placed on me and my brother the reading of books that have few pictures.

But I don't stand on my soap box thinking I'm all high and mighty because I read books for fun and write stories that don't have pictures. Nor do I blame everything on television, video games, or anything of the like. That post was just me saying that I think people have lost some of their imagination because of television making everything easier to visualize. There might be people out there who can watch television and still go out and have an active imagination.

But don't leap down my throat saying that I'm insane for not watching television and reading instead.

But why the heck are books that aren't mandatory for schoolwork horrible? Is it just because you don't like reading the books out there? Or is it because they don't have visual arts? Because that's all that I'm seeing from that sentence.

Just as a little note, there are people out there who don't think on one extreme or the other. Don't assume that I'm one of those people. I have my opinions, you have yours. And I don't feel like arguing against you about anything.

Because I really don't care at all about this.

Hanako has already pointed out that she has an objection to this, and I'm going to have to second her. Just because I prefer reading books to watching primetime doesn't necessarily mean that I hate TV. I don't watch mainstream entertainment for my own reasons, primarily because I just don't see what's so great about all of those shows. I watch anime, and I try to keep up with the news, but that's about it. (Actually, the only anime I watch in its dubbed form is Miyazaki-sensei's work, so I don't really use local television that much anyway.) I don't think television is evil, but I do believe that because of it, books have lost some of their value. With books, you need to wait a bit for gratification. With television, entertainment is instantaneous, if a bit less original for the most part. That's my take on the whole shtick.

However, as far as imagination goes, it does need a jumpstart every now and then. For me, that said jumpstart comes from absorbing multiple types of information. I get ideas from specific themes or scenes in plays, movies, or video games. Sometimes, I just have a joke bouncing around in my head or a funny situation, and I turn it into a story. I get a lot of ideas just from trying to imitate the writing styles of other authors. I don't think that imagination is declining, persay, I just think we need to open up to coax it out. I used to read nothing but fantasy, but it was only when I began branching out into other genres that I started to have really great ideas.

And Yamamato, kindly don't call literature "crap" until you've read it all. You wouldn't really know.

the reason it's hypocritical is because books are just as capable of being a mindless load of s*** just as much as TV's capable of airing horrid programming. Essentially, I've seen several messages conveyed that TV is utter garbage and reading a book is supposed to be all intelligent and sophisticated, but it's still entertainment in the end, and whether the material at hand is crap or intellectual and inspirational could have little to do with the medium itself (hell, a book that's crap is probably worse because, chances are, you're gonna be wasting more of your time reading through the thing than you would just watching it). Now Hanako, I'm not saying you're exactly like one of those people perse (I probably shouldn't have used "you", I apologize for that), but the way you seemed to lash out at television like you did sure makes me want to bring up such narrow-minded, old-fashioned idiots.

And I wasn't calling all literature crap, at least not in a negative sense. First of all, I was just using "crap" as a general term (a synonym would be "stuff", "junk", etc.), and that was to say that I'm perfectly fine despite not reading many books. Though, I gotta say that I have grown a hatred for the narrative form over the years. Compared to a visual art form, it takes long enough getting descriptions across in writing without the author flaunting their ego and dragging it out with a bunch of words they think are supposed to be poetic and symbolic. And maybe I have a low attention span, and/or I just have trouble picturing sequences of events better than most people, but often times, I'll just read off a page word for word, and before you know it, I reach the bottom of the page, look back up, and think to myself "Wait, what the hell just happened?" Then again, that tends to happen to me when not much occurs at that point in the story, and that aforementioned ego-flaunting comes up to try to make the descriptions seem more lively, when they're really just tiresome and not to-the-point (at least in my opinion).

Alright, "ego" was definitely not the right word choice. Authors, especially pre-twentieth-century authors didn't use metaphor or simile in order to boost their own ego. They used it because at the time, that's what the people liked. Nowadays, we want a shorter, punchier story that focuses less on description and more on plot. If an author uses descriptive words, and uses them correctly, it doesn't mean that they're showing off, it means they're doing a good job. Honestly, Yamamoto-san, you're making me wonder if you understand literature in the first place.

Swearing aside, yes, books can be a load of garbage, but that doesn't mean all books are. The reasons people say books are more sophisticated is that books came first, and people don't really read as often as they once did. The people who say that really just want literature to be a little more widely read, since reading does expand the brain. Plus, if you read a crap book, and you realize that that's what it is, you can always put it down and stop. Nobody is forcing you to read it.

I don't care what you're inspired by, or what medium. Heck, one of my favorite Doujinshi is based off of cartoon network's shows, for crying out loud. I know what you mean when you say that it's harder to read books with a ton of description (two words: Paradise Lost), but sometimes it helps to learn different styles of writing or art then you're used to. Myself? I don't understand Impressionist painting. To be honest, it looks like a bunch of pointless scribbles to me. But I respect it as an art form, and I don't bad mouth it. The same applies for every art form.

you mean that Picasso stuff? I don't quite get it myself. Just because I prefer the visual arts doesn't mean I have to like all of them. On that note, I don't get why the Mona Lisa is held with such high regard, especially as there are other Renaissance paintings, and especially sculptures (you have any idea how difficult that'd be to work with?), with much finer details.

And "reading expands the brain"? Sounds like more book bias to me. Sure, at its very basis, it requires both word comprehension and the ability to read written language (and likely exercises both those skills), which is a lot more than the basic requirement of visual art, which is simply watching. But that shouldn't mean that some movies, TV shows, comics, etc. can be any less thought-provoking. And you also say no one forces you to read a crap book. Well, no one forces you to watch a crappy movie or TV show, either. Now, the reason I brought up how reading is more time-consuming is because some people might want to stick through a story in hopes that something more interesting occurs later. Now, what do you think's going to take longer to make someone realize it's just not worth it anymore? A book that's about 300 pages on average, or a movie that's two hours on average (and do consider that a number of great media never really starts getting interesting until well into the middle)?

By the way, the name is "Yamato". Three syllables, Ya-ma-to. I don't know where the hell you're getting "mo" from, but get it right. For someone that questions whether I understand literature in the first place, you seem to have trouble reading yourself.
