Pokemon fanfics with vampires as main characters- is it possible to actually come up with a decent plot?

Anything's possible. You can make it happen...it'd be a new concept for me.

They'd have Zubat as their starter.

Hey guys. -huggles- School blocked the lounge. How lame is that?

As long as it's well written, I don't see what's wrong with it. However, I don't see the point in using vampires as they don't really add anything to the main plot of Pokemon. And with vampiric traits come stuff like near-immortality, superhuman strength and flight, so why do you need Pokemon to fight in the first place?

I grow bored...

At what time of the day do you write?
Whenever I feel like it. Mostly after my dogs goes to the bathroom and I'm forced to clean it up, so, you know, I get to write a bunch. ;-]

Oh, and word on the profile is that **** Jax has been messing with meh luvly pear.

I must step my game up!

Great, Scytheteen. Now I'm considering writing a shipping fic between all of us lounge people. Okay... that has to be my weirdest plotbunny EVER. And I've had some pretty messed-up plotbunnies.

What time of day do you do your writing?
Whenever I'm not suffering from a horrid case of apathy or writer's block. xP

New question! Pick me, pick me!

What are your thoughts on fanfics meant to be written as "Anime episodes", i.e., those written using several of the common devices of anime translated into fic-terms?

You mean the mushroom cloud coming out the mouth and random falling? I'm not a fan of it unless the writing is meant to be comedic. I mainly write to distance myself from the anime.

When its late. I can't write when people are home, too much noise, so mainly from 11:00PM to 4:00AM

Common animé devices, I feel, eternally turn out too simple and pointless for serious writing. Unless a fiction was written in the animé style, but with more poignant and profound undertones (like an adult simulating a child's storybook) perhaps one could possibly get an interesting atmosphere. Otherwise, it doesn't seem likely that one could create a masterpiece out of an animé ep. In a fandom like this, there is a lot of elaboration and editing involved with making good fiction.

In addition to the earlier topic, I also find solitude a blissfully good condition for writing. And now--association of ideas!

How do you react to angst in fictions? When does it become overwhelming? How far do you believe it could be justified?

Any time of day I can get to my computer, although I've been writing less and less lately. When I do, it's mostly a one-shot about whatever I want to write about at the time rather than my longer story.

What sort of elements do you think would go into a good website for a fanfic? What would make you feel like coming back to it often (aside from new chapters being posted)?

I, um... I have my own website about my story. The only problem is that there's nothing on it, because my computer won't load the edit page. If I could, I'd put up a biography for every character and a bit about their history (when I'm sure it won't spoil the story, as it would for many characters) as well as the story itself.

Have you had any unfortunate dealings with plagiarism?

Not me, although someone accused me of copying characters and even an entire story from someone at one point when I actually got my ideas from somewhere else. In fact, I'm not even sure that I had read that particular story when the accusation came.

Personally, I prefer trying to avoid them, mostly because even if you're writing in an anime-based fandom (not just centering around the Pokemon anime but also any other anime out there), you still have to remember that you're writing fiction, so there's just certain conventions you have to keep in mind. Most anime techniques like the sweatdrop or the mushroom sigh are visual gags and therefore lose a bit of their impact in written word. If it's comedy, you might be able to get away with it anyway (emphasis on might), but if it's a serious scene, stuff like that will probably just kill it.

If it's well-written, I don't mind. Well-written as in, the character doesn't spend the entire fic moping in a corner and doing nothing just because their BF or GF broke up with them.

I'd say that the line is drawn depending on the character and the situation. There are characters who really would crawl into a corner and do nothing for hours on end because of a bad relationship. Likewise, for others, it might take the death of a loved one to reach that same effect. You just have to ask yourself whether or not the situation and the character are believable enough to have them angst to X degree.

Not only that, but I'd say it's a good idea to avoid writing a scene just to have someone angst, as opposed to having someone angst because of a scene. For example, if you write an entire fic about Ash dying just because you want to make Misty cry, there's just something noticeably different about it compared to writing Ash's death and having Misty's sorrow come out of it as a side result. That is, if a writer focuses on the emotions instead of the events in the storyline, the writer tends to be over-the-top with emotions. (Or, at least, from what I've seen.) This differs from a writer who goes into a scene with his mind set on getting the events laid out and having the reactions occur logically, to a believable degree, if that makes sense.

Ogod.

A shipping of all of us lounge people.

Hm...Jax x Oni x Scythey x Asty x Phany x Thesis or whatever the heck his name is x Alter ego x Gummy (oh how I miss thee)

I suppose that could work.

I like fanfiction for purposes of this post having to do with some sort of topic.

Wow Zach, thanks for remembering me.

I decree that this Lounge is getting to be too off-topic.

*baletes everyone*

In response to Thesis-kun's question, Astinus received those little blue lines of disappointment on her head. Andy looked up from his curled position on the bed to stare at the lines.

Angel sweat-dropped.

Yeah, to be serious here, those anime-devices are sight gags, which don't translate well into words. I'm sure that a writer can take those few extra seconds to say "He was ashamed" rather than type "He sweat-dropped". Or whatever sweat-drops mean in anime. I don't know. I don't watch it anymore.

Angst becomes too overwhelming when it's all that the characters do for chapters on end. Though some time can be spent angsting on something, if the main focus of the fic isn't the angst, then I want to see some action.

Jax x Oni x Scythey x Asty x Phany x Thesis or whatever the heck his name is x Alter ego x Gummy x Silver
That's hot. ;D[/parishilton]

A fic that deals with the shippings of all of us in the Lounge...would like to see that! XD

Jax x Oni x Scythey x Asty x Phany x Thesis or whatever the heck his name is x Alter ego x Gummy x Silver

I too agree that's hot. ;D

Like everyone else, I too believe the anime visual gags would be too weird to use in fanfiction unless the story is comedy. Usually I would write either "He feared for the worst" or "He felt sweat ran down on his cheeks."

Pretty much don't mind too much angst unless the character does that almost for the first half of the story and he/she isn't developed yet basically.

Jax x Oni x Scythey x Asty x Phany x Thesis or whatever the heck his name is x Alter ego x Gummy x Silver x Bay

I just made it hotter.

You're welcome.

I have a few mentions of "sweatdropping" in early editions of my fic that I intend to edit out when I go back through it again. Unless you're intending it to be like an anime episode, best to leave it out.

I don't like reading about it, but angst is appropriate (and sometimes necessary) in certain situations. Revolving an entire fic around a character's "I hate life" mantra or having the character remain angsty 23 chapters after he/she should have "gotten over it" is not so good...

Okey, lemme eplan

Jaxxxy (three x's ;-]) x Oni x Scythey x Asty x Thesis and his blashpemic names x Alter Ego x Gummy x This Silver person x Jaxxy (oh wait, I already said her name) x Mewthree x Bay

Yay for more love. </3

I write angsty, so of course I react just fine. Life has angst, so why not read about it? I have no strange reaction. And the only time it gets overwhelming is when the character tries to suicide, or if they're hurting so bad they just...thrash, yell, anything. (why does this sound familiar to me?)

How far could it be justified...I don't know. -grabs dictionary-
