This isn't that hard.
What's your favorite music albums?
Here's my top 10
10. Vulgar Display of Power (Pantera)
This album reshaped the face of Heavy Metal in general. There are very dark songs on this album and very catchy songs. A very famous song known as "Walk" is on this album. Whenever it is played at a concert, you will most likely hear the crowd chant with the chorous "RE-....SPECT.....WALK!!!" It's like Metallica's "Seek and Destroy." Searching..."SEEK AND DESTROY!"
9. Master of Puppets (Metallica)
This is probably the heaviest album in the history of Heavy Metal. HEavier that Slayer's "Reign in Blood," heavier than Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast," "Heavier than AC/DC's "Back in Black."This album has insane guitar riffs, insane guitar solos, and one wicked instrumental and ballad. Tragically Cliff Burton would be killed in a bus crash 6 monthes after this album was released. But Master of Puppets showed the world what kind of Monster Metallica would turn out to be.
8. Cowboys From Hell (Pantera)
Pantera's first major album shows a true element of Thrash. Songs like "Cowboys From Hell," have an amazing tempo and some dominating lyrics. The famous "Cemetary Gates" ballad is also on this album, it is Dimebag Darrell's first song that he expresses how good he would be.
7. Mothership (Led Zeppelin)
This may not be an actual album by the band, but it is a compilation. It includes Zeppelin's best songs and brings back the legacy of Led Zeppelin. Zeppelin's best known songs are all included here, "Stairway to Heaven," "Kashmir," "Whole Lotta Love," "Black Dog," "When the Levee Breaks," name it and it's probably there. I only wish "Moby Dick" was there now...
6. HellYeah (HellYeah)
After the tragic murder of guitarist Dimebag Darrell, his brother, Vinnie Paul, went out of music for a while. He had been in the same band as Dimebag, as the drummer for Pantera, and Damageplan. After a few years of solitude, Vinnie Paul re-entered the career in music and formed the band HellYeah. They only have one album out at the moment, but they're still together. This album, is an amazing debut album. THe first song "HellYeah" is a song that pumps me up whenever I hear it. Also there is a song called "Thank You" dedicated to Dimebag Darrell. HellYeah is the next Pantera to me.
5. The Dethalbum (Dethklok)
Dethklok has always made me laugh. The show Metalocalypse is a crack-up whenever I see it. Dethklok may technically be a fictional band, they have actually toured however, and released this album so far. It's got a bunch of fan favorites, ranging from "Awaken," to the famous "Thunderhorse." I can't wait for the next album.
4. Days of Future Passed (The Moody Blues)
I grew up listening to the Moody Blues. They were my first favorite band, but they still have a place on my favorites today. Their album "Days of Future Passed" has an amazing theme. It's basically the normal mans life. It goes from Morning to evening. You ever hear the song "Nights in White Satin?" The Moody Blues are the masterminds of that song, and it's the last track on this album. The London Symphony Orchestra helped them do the music for this, and it's this element of Classical with Rock that helped make a very famous concert known as "A Night At Red Rocks: The Moody Blues Live with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra"
3. Death Magnetic (Metallica)
After a very disappointing trend of albums produced by Bob Rock, Metallica fired Rock after St. Anger's failure and hired the most important producer of our time, Rick Rubin. He helped Metallica find their old sound, and they released one monster of an album that remained the #1 album around the world for three straight weeks. Metallica's the first band to release an album that popular. The album has amazing elements of thrash in it. SOngs like "Cyanide," "The Day That Never Comes," and "My Apocalypse" bring back old memories from the earlier album of Metallica. There is however one downfall. The album is rather loud. Fans are demanding a remastered version, especially since the GHIII version is remastered, but even if they don't, this album is definatally one of Metallica's best works yet.
2. The Great Southern Trendkill (Pantera)
In the mid 1990's, new generations of music were being born. As a result, some music esperts began to say that heavy music was dead and gone. Pantera, was pretty offended by this, and made the heaviest album in 1996. They titled it "The Great SOuthern Trendkill" and it is a big middle finger to all those experts who said that. Songs like "The Great SOuthern Trendkill," "Living Through Me," and "Sandblasted Skin" shout a nice big insult at the experts. Other songs like "Suicide Note" and "Floods" are legends in the Pantera chronology. "Floods's" outro solo is legend in guitar solos. Phil Anselmo said it, now I'll say it, Heavy Music is alive and well, and will stay that way.
1. ...And Justice for All (Metallica)
This album was the album that introduced me to Metallica istelf. It's a serious need for any Metallica fan. It's themes are nothing short of amazing and if the Guitar solos aren't enough, Lars outdoes himself on this album. Metallica's famous "One" is on this album as are other countless favorite. The instrumental tributes fallen bass player Cliff Burton, and recites a poem he wrote before his death. There is only one bad thing about this album, the bass guitar is barely heard. Other than thiat, this is Metallica gold.
Honorable Mention:
15. St. Anger (Metallica)
Before I heard this album, I heard a lot of dirt about it. "It's a waste of money" "I hate that album" "Metallica's worst album ever." I checked it out to judge for myself and was glad I did. Yes, the album is very questionable to fans of Metallica, but I don't think they see the true master behind the album. They hear crappy production and no guitar solos, and automatically throw it in the trash. I looked into it, and discovered that the theme of this album, just may be Metallica's darkest album yet. Yes the production is horrible, but the lyrics and themes are legendary. The only song I did not see theme in was "Purify." Every other song however displayed a theme, whether it was keeping anger healthy, or searching for a life-style. The best song "Some Kind of Monster" displays the human race as a monster, and made me think. So even though Lars Snare is like a coffee can, and Kirk barely does any solos, and James sings off key, this album really is amazing, and anyone who disagrees can kiss my butt.
14. Toxicity (System of a Down)
I have yet to hear the entire album, but what I've heard so far is amazing. I love the song Aerials.
13. The Wall (Pink Floyd)
The Wall is one album that I have a deep respect for. It's anti-war songs are one influence when I write lyrics. And when this album was performed live, it was nothing short of amazing.
12. Kill 'Em All (Metallica)
Metallica's debut album has a very big element of thrash, and a huge love for Metal. Songs like "Hit the Lights," "Whiplash," "Phantom Lord," and "Metal Militia" all haave a reference to the genre of metal itself. And who could forget the one lyric in Whiplash? "We'll never stop / we'll never quit 'cause we're Metallica!"
11. Ride the Lightning (Metallica)
Metallica's master piece has some amazing theme in it. But however, the most notable songs on here are "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and the ballad, "Fade to Black." Fade to Black is Metallica's first suicide song and it seriously impacted a lot of people when it came out.
Well that's my favorite albums right there lol.
What are some of yours. (NOTE: I don't require you to tell me why like I did. lol)
