Favoriting/Liking a Thread

I'd be fine with post likes so long as the total amount of likes we receive does not show up on our profile. Might become a bit of a popularity contest that way, plus in the end people are people so some users who have little total likes might be a bit put off.

I'd really love an option to turn it off, though, if it does get implemented. That way I won't see who likes what post, cannot like things myself, nor can I get my own posts liked. Or instead of being unable to have my own posts liked, perhaps I just won't get any notifications if it does happen (assuming notifications for post likes are implemented). I really dislike the whole like system but that's a personal preference - I know it can work out for others so long as it's done properly, so I wouldn't say I'm against it.

Thread likes seem a bit redundant though, as we have thread subscriptions and such that are rather similar in that regard.

If you could see how many likes you had we might as well bring rep back :P

A cool thing would be to see how many subscriptions a thread had, which would pretty much be the same as thread likes. Do whatever is easier for y'all cuz I'm fine either way c:

There are a lot of times where I enjoy a post and want to express it to the author, but I don't necessarily have enough to say to warrant a full reply. We have post comments but I think it'd be kinda cool to be able to see how many other people like posts etc. etc.

This definitely. I've on occasion contacted people about threads which I think are good but I just don't always want to initiate a conversation about it or whatever, or don't want to write out a message. Lazy as it sounds, I just think that it's a nice simple way to express appreciation.

I don't see how subscriptions are really similar to this. Subscriptions are a notification you get in your User CP while this system would be to show appreciation. However,

I really agree with this. The last thing we need is a rep-esque system on our hands again.

I'm glad a lot of people like the idea and it would be really neat if it went through [plus if everyone hated it we could always revert back]. On the subject of the forum being facebook-like, I really think it's somewhat of a placebo in that it only feels facebook-esque if you keep thinking it. Like Nuke I've used forums with this feature and no one has ever mentioned or complained it being like facebook.

Yes, but it cuts down on the "^This. Totally this." posts. I've seen quite a few and a like button would make the threads a bit cleaner.

Though it's not like it's spam, mods would have taken care of that if it was. I just see it rather useless to simply go ^this, but whatever you guys think.

^This.

Anyway, you get those people who would like the post and do the''^This.'' Thing.
I could give your a very large collab of screenshots of the amount of 'Likes and This''' I recived on facebook, just in the past month, it's bonkers.

Either way, I don't really use this 5 Star ratey mechanical doo daa! If I like the content of a thread I comments saying what I like and where things could be improved (Obviously going on about my ventures in the CReative side of the forums).

I also believe 'Subscribing' to a thread shows as much apprietation as 'liking' or 'favoriting' does it not?
Then again, with Subscribing on the ball, Facebook has introduced Subscribing to ones accounts if A/ They've too many friends or B/Do not wish to have friends.

I don't mean to come off as pushy or whatever, but it'd be nice if we didn't let this die or anything. If the staff is discussing it in their forums, then I apologize for this post, since it's pretty much pointless under those circumstances lol.

I just think it's really closed-minded to not implement a feature that is useful and/or people want on the grounds of it having been done before.

There are a lot of times where I enjoy a post and want to express it to the author, but I don't necessarily have enough to say to warrant a full reply. We have post comments but I think it'd be kinda cool to be able to see how many other people like posts etc. etc.
It's not close-minded at all. Like I said, the best way to show your appreciation for a topic or a post is to quote people and post your reasons for agreement in your own words or to perhaps add something new.

The best way to express your appreciation to the author personally is to leave them a visitor message. That will mean more to them than liking their post.

And like Razor Leaf pointed out earlier in the thread, post likes may encourage tight friend groups to go around liking each others posts in debate threads.

He was saying it's closed-minded to say no on the basis of 'it's been done before', not on any other basis. I think you misread his intent in that post.
