Feature your art, stories, and challenge runs on Daily!

We're opening up new types of pages on PokéCommunity Daily - art galleries, story repositories, and challenge runs. In short - if you have your own art gallery thread on PC, a completed challenge run/travel journal thread, or a completed fanfiction (or several!) or roleplay thread featuring Pokémon, then you can also have it hosted on a Daily article page. We'll even help you have it set up!

    Art galleries

If you have a thread for your artwork in the Art Studio forum section, you can ask for an article to be be made to mirror it. (This does not replace your existing thread - think of it as an alternate way to showcase your work). You'll have a choice of gallery displays to use from (even multiple if you want). Here are some examples (still screenshots of it in action):

    Spoiler:

Or you can have a big slideshow that you can click between. It doesn't handle l o n g images too well but otherwise works well.
    Spoiler:

And we have another layout which will resize multiple images and arrange them neatly, which we have used before - see https://daily.pokecommunity.com/202...prigatito-floragato-and-meowscarada-fanworks/ for a live article version. They are clickable in this url so you can see it in action! Still screenshot below:

    Spoiler:

You can update the galleries separately if using the Modula galleries, or else by editing the article. Images will need to be rehosted on Daily to be used.

    Stories

If you have a completed story or roleplay thread, you can request an article version of it as well. (We can make exceptions for in-progress stories, but we would rather focus on completed stories for now). Stories can be one-shots or chaptered fics, with the latter making use of multiple pages within one article.

    Challenge runs

If you have a completed challenge run (either documented in the Challenges or Travel Journal forum section), you can request an article version of it as well. (We can make exceptions for in-progress challenges, but we would rather focus on completed game runs for now). They can be in different formats e.g. full blown screenshot runs are doable - but these will naturally take longer to put together.

    How fancy can I get?

If you prefer things to be quickly made, that is straightforward to do. However, we can break out some fancier formatting, such as using pull quotes and images in stories, or even CSS to really highlight your art or story. For examples, check out pages from Rivvon's Black and White Analysis articles, or this article on the plot of the Kanto games. The catch is that these require more work to set up, and if you want something different to what we've created before, we'd appreciate some input from you on the CSS side!

    Spoiler:

    What else?

    • At this stage, we want to feature Pokémon content. Fakemon is an exception. If you have fanworks featuring Pokemon and other franchises/OC, that is fine.
    • We (Daily staff members) will help. But you can also do it all yourself if you'd like, of course.
    • For these pages, we intend for ads to be turned off (but do let us know if this has been overlooked) so that they look better.
    • We are not looking to showcase ROM hacks at this time. Entirely original fangames however are possible.
    • We'll only consider shelling out for e.g. premium Modula galleres if there's a large interest in those options and displays.
    • If you have a very long submission (e.g. 10+ fic chapters), you can opt to either have it go live only when everything is ready, or after a first part is done, with the rest silently updated afterwards.
    • Interested in helping us port such things to Daily or designing CSS for fancier articles? Consider applying for Daily staff or otherwise PM me!

    How do I sign up?

Please post in this thread. You can also PM/DM myself on the forums and Discord. Please include a link to your content and any further details, and we'll go from there. We'll also set you up with a Daily account so you can make changes as needed.

Thanks to PoryKid575 and Arcaneum for CSS. Some example images from awkwardzombie.com, others from existing Daily articles.

Well, that is definitely interesting. But I guess I'm in that weird limbo between art gallery and fic. I already estimated my project will not be anywhere near done until like 10 years down the line (it features both Orre games, don't worry, it won't take another 10 years before we confront the final boss of Colosseum, I swear! 😆) so it won't fall into "completed fic" category for a good while. It does update consistently with one page a week though. But other than that, it's definitely on a chapter basis so I guess that could work... 🤔 Could maybe toss in some retrospective exerpts to go along with it.

I do have some CSS which I have been using for the webcomic mirror, which is similar to what my Flair uses right now. But I don't know for sure up to which capacity we're allowed to play around with CSS looks.

I think comic strips such as yours would be fine already even if it's far from finished, I wouldn't count it on the completed fic side (I feel all art gallery style pages would be open to updates). At minimum a clickable gallery for pages could be made, and if you want things sorted into chapters it could be a image gallery per chapter with a different page in the article for each chapter.

What is the CSS? I could always take a look and mess around with a draft for a few pages when I've the time to see how things might look. Daily pages are within the WP framework, but we can try things out. [Disclaimer, I'm not a CSS expert, but I feel Rivvon's mega essays came out alright for instance :v]

Most of the CSS would involve making the overall look seem like you're reading on a device of sorts. With some image files for the border and the background. The border image is admittedly a bit on the thick side spanning at 450 pixels, so I usually let it shrink it down to 45 pixels. But I feel it can be one of the main issues in terms of its contents compressing in on itself.

    Spoiler: Code stuff

Might miss some essentials with this, I clipped out the things from the CSS that affect the overall look of the webpage.

While at it another question came to mind, are there any rules in regards to mature content and what would be allowed? As the comic is actually 18+ but mostly for themes in relation to violence and psychological abuse. Would a content warning suffice, as is generally the concensus in the art threads in general, or rather no feature at all if any content warnings are involved?

Thanks for that. I'm not sure how the galleries or images will play out with borders around or css hacking (but then, I don't see why not!), but I'll look into it. (It may not be for a few days before I have a chance to play around with that however. Yay deadlines!)

I double checked with Sheep on this. Those particular themes are fine, but content warnings will be necessary on the relevant pages. In short, if it's allowable on the forums, then it will also be allowable on Daily.

The largest sprite project that I've ever done, with 1248 new Pokémon, 12 new types, and a Pokémon of every type combination, set in the oriental Oriva Region, inspired by China and Japan! It comes with complete data for all the new Pokémon, as well as its own dedicated Pokémon Showdown Solomod. I'm also writing a story for it that's coming up in the future!

@Yume Tsuki I promise to look into the css/etc stuff this week!

That is a heck of a lot of Pokemon! Even if that's all 3 Pokemon per line in one image, that's over 400 images plus text...

So maybe it'll be good to try a small batch first as a starting point, and then it can be updated gradually with more of your images and descriptions? More manageable to set up and have going that way rather than jumping into setting it up for all your images. How does that sound?
hello, i was curious if non-pokemon related things were allowed since i mostly do oc art
Someone asked this about fics which were entirely non-Pokemon, which I feel we would only really want to go for after this has a bunch of established articles in place already. But if you have at least some Pokemon art, then I'll be fine if other non-Pokemon pieces were included in the article as well. But standalone fanwork articles not on Pokemon I think we'd err to only doing later.

ah ok, thanks for the quick reply! i have fakemon that i can share, and if possible i can sneak in a few ocs if that sounds ok?

Funny you say that, I actually did do your suggestion intentionally, as said on the front page of my thread! I gradually included all the Pokémon across 36 waves, starting small and then eventually introducing everyone. It's just...well, by this point, everyone had already been introduced.

But, moving on, is there anything you want me to do before this puppy's ready for the daily scoop?

That sounds good to me. Could you please let me know what specific images you would like, and also how you might want the gallery to be formatted based on the OP? (Can also PM me if you'd like.)

Same as above - got to decide on the format of galleries, and if you wanted text as well how that is also put in the article. And maybe as a starting point as you mentioned it, we go with the images in wave one to see how things look?

I do see some images in your thread have a fair bit of white space (ones with only one sprite for instance) - are there versions with tighter cropping available? Although consistent image sizing can be good too for e.g. a slideshow display, hmm.

Yeah, you could release each wave as a separate slideshow, a new one every week. The text could consist of the description of the line as shown in the wave, although you are allowed to rewrite it if able to either simplify it or to make it easier to read: Using Gimtop's line from wave 23 as an example here:
[PokeCommunity.com] Feature your art galleries/stories/challenge runs on Daily!

    Magic/Wierd --> Magic/Wierd
Gimtop is a Gimbal Pokémon that is basically a top contained around a razor sharp ring filled with magical energy. Gimtop and it's ring rotate seperatley, spinning around to confuse opponents and tear them to shreds. Gimtop's discovery inspired people to create mechanisms for their machines which allowed for a smoother workflow by being easier to rotate. It can efficiently fight even without it's ring, and sometimes it willingly removes it's ring to allow children to play with it. Gimaphilo is it's evolved form, a Pokémon interested in the philosophy of rotation. It constantly writes out angles and axises on tree trunks so that other people and Pokémon can learn about them. It's prized weapon is itself: Gimaphilo can not only deploy tops to to spin out opponents, but it can also spin around at speeds of over 300 miles per hour, and those caught up in it will be teared to ribbons of magical energy. It gets around with the rings on it's feet, which are comparable to roller-skates, able to perform many different tricks as it runs around: it always appears to go for where the earth's axis is at it's peak.

Just note that after the final wave, the rest of the thread consists of the technical data for the new Pokémon, including stats, new moves, and even trainer data! (AKA the 28 Premium Files) They preferably should not be listed in the presentations, but you are free to list them if you want!

That sounds good to me. Could you please let me know what specific images you would like, and also how you might want the gallery to be formatted based on the OP? (Can also PM me if you'd like.)

for the gallery, is it possible to do something similar to the first image in the OP? just a nice square list of art is all i need. i also dabble a tiny bit with css/html so id love to try experimenting with it sometime later!

im not picky about which art to use! although for now it might be better to just use art from the latest 3 posts of mine from my gallery:

it has a good mix of fakemon with a couple of oc art. id avoid any that are sketches and pixel art. im alright with any other art you would like to add as well, since my last 3 posts might not be sufficient enough :)

if you need the specific files themselves i can attach them here as well! is it also possible to backport art into this new gallery? id love to add in some of my older fakemons at a later date

Fistly - everyone above, also please PM me with an email address and desired username, so I can set you up with an account. It'll allow for access for you to preview articles, an ability for us to actually attribute articles to you as an author on Daily without manually writing it in articles and using a dummy account, and you can also edit your own articles e.g. add new images or whatnot yourself rather than having to wait for me (and also easier to mess around with css or the like on your own too).
Early days as I didn't want to figure out the rigte code yet for a modula not-gallery yet (they also do slideshows but that requires money... could always try a trial though I suppose...), but after turning on 'jetpack' and using its built-in slideshow, I can implement the css for 'box' for it. It does look taller than this with the blank space on my phone, mind, although not sure how easy it'd be to have a one-size-fits all for such large images on smaller devices. Still, some promise imo! I tested this out on the prologue for now.

    Spoiler:

Will respond to other posts my tomorrow sorry, it is late and I need to bed.

@Yume Tsuki Another update, prologue and chapter 1 on 2 separate pages with formatted image galleries. CSS needs to be a bit nicer dealing with jetpack galleries but it works. Might need more thought about displaying height on mobile devices, and would be good if on click to the next image it scrolls to the top of the gallery.

Slideshows, or modula versions of them, I don't think easily accomodate for large amounts of text on the image itself. (At least, idk about Modula with its free version - would need to see what is possible for the premium). Text can always be shared below image galleries/slideshows however, and maybe shorter captions on each image giving the fakemon name and typing. How does that sound?

I can try to play around with that my tomorrow.

Square list can be arranged! As said to UberTrainer, I can set up a start on this tomorrow, and use those images as a starting point.

CSS/HTML can certainly be experimented with by yourself once the base is established!

With files, we do tend to reupload everything to Daily's wordpress image library. It means that the only way images will fail to show up is if the site itself is down, which means the site has bigger problems. :v I can do that myself for the start, and if you want to add more art, you'll be able to do that anytime as well.

    Ohhh very nice. ~
Also damn, completely forgot about the image size messing with mobile. It should probably be good if we can set the image width to scaling. That should at least keep it readable and acceptable for phone usage... would need a "max-width:100%;" somewhere in the image display part of the jetpack css I assume. That should scale it at least based on the screen-width of a device. 🤔

The first article is up! https://daily.pokecommunity.com/2025/03/19/pokemon-north-south-east-and-west-wave-1/ With other waves to be added on a roughly weekly basis.

I can't say I've had any luck here with that - I think it's just a factor of the image sizes. That said, I can easily zoom in when checking it on my phone, so if that is fine then outside of adding some text, and then more chapters if you wanted more than the first two for initial launch, is done.
