Name: Janice Glayvansien
Gender: Female
Age: 13
Region: Sinnoh
Appearance: Janice has black hair that goes down until her neck and the same brown eyes that runs in her family tree. She has smooth and fair skin like the women in her family, and has a rather skinny build. Fashionably influenced by her cousin, she sports a sky blue blouse with glittering heart designs and a navy blue skirt. She ties her grey-blue sweater around her waist when she has no need for it. For footwear, she prefers anything that can get her anywhere so she puts on a pair of slightly-faded silvery-grey sneakers. Living in a tropical spot such as Pastoria, she has been accustomed to bringing an umbrella wherever she goes. It is pink in colour and can be fitted into any pocket of any size.
History: Orphaned at six, Janice was brought up in Snowpoint by her aunt, her father's sister, all her life. According to her aunt, her father died trying to protect Snowpoint Temple from a bunch of enigmatic people with Pokemon, at the time she was born. Without asking her aunt what her father died, Janice already knew that must be something worth dying to protect. Sometimes after she turned three, she recalled faintly of her mother being taken away by the same mysterious people. It was only three months later which her mother came back home, looking very weak with strange marks and scars over her body. Within a week after she returned, her mother became very ill and doctors in Snowpoint couldn't help him but give an estimate of her days left. Her mother's funeral was one of the horrible nightmares eternally etched in her young pliable mind. Out of the many people who attended, Janice and her aunt, cried their hearts the most and watch the coffin lay amongst the others in the cemetery of the Acuity Church.
Along with her cousin two years her senior, Janice enrolled into Snowpoint's Trainer School as with the other children in Snowpoint. Her first Pokemon she ever used her aunt's Piplup. She required at least one Pokemon to take part in the classes that needed them. She lived in a house together with her cousin's family, and had to share a room with her aunt due to the lack of space in such a packed household.
Growing up wasn't very easy as unlike her cousin, a sociable leader-to-be, Janice had no friends at all. In school, her presence was only a mere shadow compared to those around her. She always looked on in envy as her popular cousin mingled around with sunny dispositions. At home, after she had completed her homework, she would visit the Pokemon Center to accompany her aunt who was a doctor there. She was good friends with the nurses there and the Chanseys took a liking to the quiet girl. She would observe her aunt at work, sometimes even helping her to do research. She felt that the times spent in the Pokemon Center's lab with her aunt were much better than being in school as she learnt things about Pokemon that not every single kid would get to experience.
On one occasion, Janice wasn't able to join her aunt in the lab as her aunt was conducting a major experiment and didn't want anybody around lest things went awry. She went for a stroll in the woods that surrounded the entrance to Lake Acuity. Unfortunately, she had forgotten to check up on the latest weather report and was totally unprepared for a Snover-made hailstorm that had just arrived in the outskirts of Snowpoint. Running to avoid the chilly bombardment, she unknowingly dashed off Route 217 and ventured into a clearing she never knew existed. That was when she caught sight of a brown ball of fur, shuddering in the frigid winds. She recognized it as an Eevee because Candice used to own one too before evolving it into a Glaceon.
Her heart went out to that helpless creature and she scooped the Pokemon up in her arms and raced to the nearest form of shelter she could find- a hole in a tree. Once the hailstorm subsided several hours later, a rescue team sent out by her cousin and aunt found her and safely escorted her back to town. Her aunt was most worried over her, sobbing and chiding as aunt and niece reunited. Judging from its psychological behavior towards humans, especially Trainers, her aunt concluded that is was probably abandoned. The theory was that its Trainer wanted it to evolve near the Ice Rock which was located in that very clearing where Janice met the Eevee, but it was unable to and most likely abandoned it. From then on, Janice vowed to be a better Trainer than the heartless one who left a weak Pokemon to die in the cold and did all she could to provide a good life for the Eevee. Her arrival back in Snowpoint was her only session of limelight as the whole city poured over her. People whom she never interacted with gave her gifts and in school, everyone whispered in awe of the 'girl who survived a blizzard'. However, all that fame was short-lived as she was back to being a shadow two weeks later. Although she didn't openly express it, she was rather glad not to be the center of attention anymore. She could finally bond and train with her Eevee in peace without schoolmates coming over and fussing over the cutie pie. When her aunt casually observed that Eevee had already adapted exceptionally well and quickly to Snowpoint's polar climates, Janice made up her mind to evolve the Eevee. Of course it was absolutely difficult to coax the girl to go back to Route 217 and in the end, Janice managed to persuade it to evolve. January 12 marked the day Janice's Pokemon evolved into a Glaceon. After breaking the mental barrier, she trained Eevee in that clearing for two solid hours. She was almost becoming impatient when the sudden transformation lit up the whole area and Janice swore that her Eevee had some icy fashion sense. Returning back home, the two spent the rest of the day admiring the diamond dust cascading shimmering in the air.
Then come one day, her aunt's work required her to move to Pastoria City's Pokemon Center which had ample space for a laboratory. Together, Janice and her aunt bade farewell to Candice's family and moved into their own apartment in Pastoria. For the first time in her life, she felt good to no longer be confined in herself. There weren't many children in Pastoria and the hearty Water-type gym leader became close friends with the introvert girl after a few interactions. On a fishing trip with Wake on Route 212, they encountered a Buizel who was probably over-ambitious struggling to get itself free from the gluey mud. Commanding her Glaceon to solidify the mud around the Buizel with an Icy Wind, Janice broke the ice that trapped the mud trapping the weasel with the efficient aid of Glaceon's Helping Hand. The Buizel leaped out of range from the muddy terrain of Route 212. Crasher Wake nodded his head, indicating that an official battle would have to be made for the Buizel to be hers. Utilising the exact same technique to freeze the mud, Glacia froze the Buizel instead. With a spare Ball found in her back-pocket, Janice claimed the Buizel and all.
Several days after she received her second Pokemon, Wake suggested her to take on several gym leaders just to see how good her Pokemon were and to get out of Pastoria a little more. Of course it took more than a suggestion to make her go. He made a bet with her to challenge him to a gym battle. If she lost, she would have to challenge other gyms; if she won, she would not only received Wake's badge but request him to do anything she wished. Knowing that she would lose to Wake, she relented and traveled to Oreburgh for her first gym challenge. It was obviously a smart choice from the start and she claimed the Coal Badge together with Dylan. Eterna City's gym was literally an icy breeze with Glacia helping her achieve the Forest Badge. After challenging and losing to Maylene in Veilstone City, Janice returned to her aunt in Pastoria feeling jaded. From then on, she would rarely venture out of Pastoria except going to Sunyshore's market for groceries. However it wasn't very long that a Pelipper flew by one day and had a letter specially addressed to Janice. It wrote something about a Master Quest inviting Trainers from all over the world and even had a monetary incentive. While Janice was not hard up for money, she appreciated getting it without actually working in a job. But she did not really want to go into something so deep as a competition. However persuasion with a little more effort than usual from her aunt saw her replying the letter with a completed application form that was scrutinised for any mistake by the whole city of Pastoria.
Personality: Unlike her cousin, Janice is rather cold and more of an introvert. Shy around humans, she befriends Pokemon much easily than with humans. Much of her feelings are bottled up inside of her and she can hold grudges for a long time. She may not be quite sharp-tongued but she makes it up with a fierce mind that would scare many Psychic-type Pokemon away from her once they've read her mind. A trait shared in her family tree along with Candice, she's very studious and wishes to become a Pokemon doctor just like her aunt.
Janice has a competitive and calculative nature, especially in battles, which sometimes make her somewhat of a pessimist. On paper, she's extremely careful yet often too narrow-minded to something that may be too obvious. A personality trait she adopted from her aunt, she is inquisitive and can notice things people don't usually do. A simple twig on a beaten path can lead her to a train of thought. Books make up half of her world, the rest goes to nature and the environment. Anything she hasn't seen before would be able to capture her attention for periods of time. That was how she unwittingly plunge into the deep mind-provoking world of biology.
Janice enjoys keeping up with the times and topics that wander away from modernization, such as history and geography, simply bore her. Science practically had a great influence on her and so has reading. Only recently has she start to take an interest in the visual and literary arts. Anyone holding a conversation with her may expect to have several quotes from William Blake, Robert Frost or even Theodore Seuss Giesel.
