I am bored and school is letting out soon, so I thought I'd start a Choose Your Own Adventure fanfic. It takes place in Kalos and at the moment, that's all you need to know.

    ---

You are a young Pokémon trainer named Fox, and you were awoken this particular morning by an apparently suicidal Fletchling who felt the need to dive-bomb your face. You stretch and roll out of bed, forgetting for a moment that there is nothing beyond the edge of the bed except the hard, wooden floor. You frown when there is no call from your mother to check if you are all right, as is the norm when she hears a loud noise from your room.

Outside of your blankets, you notice there's a definite chill in the air, which is odd because you are inside and your mother is religious about never leaving windows open. Your flimsy pajamas aren't doing much to keep the cold breeze away from your skin. You feel goosebumps raising, and hug yourself in a feeble attempt to preserve your body heat.

You pull yourself to your feet and change out of your pajamas, pausing a moment in front of the mirror to assess your appearance. Your shoulder your bag and head out of the room, remembering to throw a jacket over your shoulders to protect from the almost unnatural chill. The cold, combined with the fact that your mother seems to have disappeared, makes you shudder.

Then you have a thought that makes your eyes go wide.

    Wasn't it summer?

    ---

What do you do? Please leave commands and I will write the next segment of the story suitably. :)

  • Ohh, neat beginning here. Nice start on the CYOA, and I like that you used the beginning scene from the game with the Fletching, albeit with your own twist on it.

    Good luck with running it!

Oh yes, commands. Any limit to how many you take from each person, or...? Have one for starters anyway.

Check a calender to confirm the date and hence address that thought.

I think one per person, per section. So you could submit one for each chapter of the story, if you wanted.

Really captivating start of the story, somehow :3 I'll make a command, hmm.

    See how Fletchling is doing.

    >Check a calendar to confirm the date and hence address that thought.

You thought it was summer when you went to sleep, but you know how you can be sure. The calendar! You've had one hanging on your wall for ages... how long had it been there again? In fact, you had forgotten all about it until just now. That's just great. There's no way it's up to date.

The page is open to July, as you had suspected, but as a teenage boy with a chronic case of laziness, you had more important thing to do than keep track of the date. You knock the calendar off of the wall in frustration and notice that it's dated about ten years ago. Yeah, there's no way it's accurate. You fold over the corner of the page it was open to and tuck it into your bag anyways.

Fox obtained one Old Calendar! Fox put the Old Calendar in the Unreliable Items pocket!

Since when was that a pocket? Ah well, you have bigger problems to worry about.

    >See how Fletchling is doing.

Oh, right. In the confused, stumbling haze that always accompanies the morning, you had forgotten about the irritating little bird that woke you up in the first place. Not that it was hard to find- it seemed content to sit on your headboard and look down at you.

Maybe your house was a welcome refuge from the cold... how had the little Pokémon gotten inside, anyways? You stride over to the annoying creature and make a lunge for it, but a tiny bird is more nimble then a half-asleep human boy any day of the week.

You chase it around the room for a solid minute before you remember there is a much easier way to catch Pokémon. You fish around in your bag and find:

    1x Super Potion
    1x Potion
    5x Freeze Heals

You pause your digging to consider the Freeze Heals. If it is really winter outside, those might come in handy.

    1x Mail
    3x Poke Balls

That's all that's in there, and although you root around in a few more pockets, all you find is the calendar from earlier. That's odd. You could have sworn your bag used to have way more stuff in it, memorabilia from an adventure all across Kalos. And you never carried Mail around. That's odd.

Wait, an adventure around Kalos! That's right, you traveled around the whole region with your Pokémon... you're remembering now as you become more alert. Your stomach rumbles and you suddenly realize you haven't had breakfast yet. Maybe you should eat something.

    >Reminince about your adventure around Kalos!

Now that's odd. You remember getting your first Pokémon, a Fennekin, and you remember the joy and pride you felt after beating the elite four, but honestly, the rest is full of holes and it's... Blurry, almost.

You can picture your set of proudly gleaming badges as you shout with glee after beating the final leader, but you can't recall the name of that leader or even what type he specialized in. It's like waking up from a dream, you realize in shock. You can never remember the whole thing, just a few quick snapshots.

Fox is having a life-changing existential realization!

Could it be that you never went on your journey? Did you just dream all of it? How long would that mean you had been asleep? Is that why the calendar is out of date?

    Wait.

Have you been sleeping for TEN YEARS?

What could have caused that? How did it happen? And why is there a polar bear glaring into your window... oh, boy.

  • If possible/sensible afterwards, close window and any other doors/windows in house, while searching for other friends or foes.

    >Attempt to catch the polar bear in a Poke Ball.

You yank one of your precious Poke Balls from the bag, but you're hesitant to open the window. The bear looks like it could be caught in a Poke Ball, but you have no Pokémon to weaken it with, so it would be a one-in-a-million chance of catching it at full health.

You make a mental note to later try and recall as much of your Pokémon knowledge as you can. At the moment, however, a flimsy glass window is all that's separating you and a cold, painful death. No way are you opening that window.

The bear chooses that moment to resolve your mental conflict by shattering the window with a headbutt that it probably barely felt. You duck away from the glass shrapnel, but you get a sizable cut on your arm. It's shallow, but it's enough to make you bleed. Not nearly as much as polar bear teeth would, however.

    Fox is slightly wounded.

You throw the Poke Ball, but it goes wide, missing the advancing bear entirely and soaring out the window. You cower pathetically against the wall as the monster advances on you, crawling in through the window with a grace that a creature its size probably shouldn't possess.

    *click*

That was quite possibly the loudest and most welcome sound you have ever heard in your entire life.

The beast freezes, turning away from you to look over its shoulder. It apparently didn't find what it was looking for, because it bounded out the window, padding out of sight and completely missing the closed Poke Ball sitting at its feet, shaking ever so slightly.

    >If possible/sensible afterwards, close the window and all other doors/windows in the house, while also searching for other friends or foes.
    >Head downstairs and see if anyone is down there.

Well, you sure can't close this window. It's a shattered ruin. In fact, your whole room is a mess. The bear obviously missed the meaning of the term 'watch your step'. There doesn't seem to be a thing left intact, except for you, oddly enough.

You decide do a quick sweep of the house. All of the doors and windows were already closed and locked, and your only company is the annoying Fletchling. That little guy could've helped you against the bear, you think bitterly. He evolves into a fire type, and fire is super-effective against ice.

Okay, this was getting weird. You seem to have a good store of Pokémon knowledge, but you can't for the life of you remember where it came from.

You manage to find a lot of potentially helpful stuff while looking around, though.

Fox found three Cans of Soda. Fox put the Cans of Soda in the Beverages pocket.

Seriously, this is quite a bag. It has a bazillion and one pockets. You could have sworn your old one only had six.

Fox found one Eskimo Jacket. Fox put the Eskimo Jacket in the Questionable Fashion Sense pocket.

Fox found one Fire Stone. Fox put the Fire Stone in the Evolutionary Items pocket.

Fox found one Half-Eaten Pizza. Fox put the Half-Eaten Pizza in the Food pocket.

It isn't much, but it's something to work with, at least. You bite your lip and stare out into the cold, hearing a faint roar. The polar bear is clearly upset. It might come back your way, and while you don't want to abandon your safe haven, it won't be safe for much longer.

A Pokémon trainer isn't much good without Pokémon, though.
