Gaps too short between gyms

I LOVE when there's alot to do between gyms. Its so anti-climatic when gyms are so close together, you beat one gym and within 10 minutes you're at the next gym. It seems to happen in alot of Pokemon games. Takes a while to get to the first few gyms, then the last few are really near eachother. More activity between gyms makes them feel more epic.

Yeah, I could agree with that. Though, if you like, you could still increase the gap yourself by doing things and spending extra time, such as training and evolving your Pokémon. This is what I always do; if I can't get myself to X amount of level before entering some gym, I would always train. If I don't, I'd most likely have hard time going up against the leader. ):

Oddly enough, I found this to be the complete opposite in the beginning of X and Y, where it took an unusually long space of time to get to the 2nd Gym. I'm not sure if it was due to me faffing around quite often, but the gaps between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gym of the Kalos region seemed almost too spread out for my liking. Then Gyms 4 through 8 happened and I felt like I was steamrolling through the game.

I never liked how there was this one gym in a town that you have already been to. Viridian City Gym from R/B/Y/FR/LG and Petalburg City Gym in R/S/E/OR/AS are the best examples. I hated having to go back there just to challenge the Gym. My Pokemon were often underleveled because there was no place to train and I couldn't go farther unless I beat the Gym.

When I started playing Pokemon X, I was surprised to see that my Pokemon were actually overleveled by the time I beat the Elite Four. In my X version, I even got my Azumarill to level 100 before beating the E4!

To my knowledge, the only Gen who have these short gaps is Gen V prior to B2/W2, as every other Gen has at least 1 long gap between two gyms in a specific order. Gen VI has by far the longest gaps in the series.

Wow, you must have a lot of patience, especially in the later gens when you literally just have to cross a bridge to the next gym! I could never have that much patience; I hate grinding with a passion haha. In XY I tried to catch every single Pokemon on every route before moving on, but some Pokemon were stupidly rare so I would be there for over an hour, haha.

However, I really love Hoenn's and Sinnoh's long routes. It really felt like I was going on an adventure, and I think that is what should be the point of Pokemon. :) (although I do recognize that BW & XY were supposed to be more urbanized, like the first style much better)

Really? I think the Sinnoh games have the longest - no Gyms that are a bridge from the previous one at all. The closest to that in Platinum is Hearthome City, and I don't include that because you have to fight Jupiter and her Skuntank before you can go there.

In BW they actually give you some stuff to try to make you work for the Gyms, although most of the time it's fighting Team Plasma. BW2 mostly handed you the Gyms one after another (except Drayden's and to an extent Skyla's), but there was stuff you could do in-between if you wanted. XY has the big stretch between Gyms 1 and 2, and the next four come shortly after one another.

You've forgot the long gap between the 6th and 7th gym and the long gap between the 7th and 8th gym.

I admit the only region that seems to have small gaps between pretty much every Gym is B/W Unova, but the one there that comes closest to a "long" gap would have to be Icirrus to Opelucid (since 2 routes and a bridge have to be passed through before getting there). B2/W2 did at least have some long gaps between Mistralton to Opelucid and Opelucid to Humilau.

And as Pinkie said, there's also notably long gaps between the 6th, 7th and 8th Gyms in Sinnoh since a lot of backtracking to previous areas (Jubilife City, Mt. Coronet and the route south of Veilstone City) is needed to reach Canalave, Snowpoint and Sunyshore. Even the gap between 1st and 2nd Gym was kinda long since the stuff separating Oreburgh and Eterna includes Jubilife City, Floaroma Town, Valley Windworks (with a Team Galactic fight nonetheless) and Eterna Forest.

But yeah, after some research it appears Sinnoh has long gaps between Gyms more often than any other region.

So here's my ranking on the regions with the longest to shortest gaps between Gyms:

    - Sinnoh
    - Hoenn
    - Kalos
    - Johto
    - Kanto
    - Unova (although less bad in B2/W2)

I completely agree, I feel like it makes the game overall last longer because if you're advancing too quickly in badges you're that step closer to the Elite Four which signifies the end of your journey. That was one of the things I liked about X/Y, in the early gyms anyways it felt like there was a nice gap between them which was especially gratifying in exploring a new region :)

Gyms are supposed to be the most intense, invigorating, and exciting parts of Pokemon games, or at least in my opinion. Having little to do in between gyms really ruins this persona that I feel Gyms should have. They're the big challenges that you've trained your team for; they shouldn't be ten minutes of game-play apart.
