This was a key item in the HG/SS games that changed all the music into chiptune remixes of almost all the tracks in the game, even ones that didn't originally have 8-bit equivalents! Everything, however, except the Ho-oh, Lugia tracks and I suppose, some of the battle frontier facilities don't have programmed chiptune versions.

The reason the versions of the songs are different from the original games are different is obviously because the ds and game boy's hardware are different.

What did you think of the GB sounds? Imo, this item was epic. It's a shame something like this will never return in future games. :x

This was a pretty good feature imo. Not only that, but also the PokeWalker, every Pokemon following you around and GTS. Maybe it's just me, but I think that HeartGold & SoulSilver were two of those games in which GameFreak really put a lot of effort in them!

This was, without doubt, the best feature they have ever included in any Pokemon game, ever. This was so beautifully nostalgic and it's yet another reason why HGSS are the gold (and silver) standard for remakes and every game that is ever remade should aspire to be even half as complete and satisfying as they were. EVERY Pokemon game should have this, because a lot of Pokemon music sounds so much better in 8-bit...and whilst I absolutely despise RSE's godawful soundfont, even if I would have been hard-pressed to resist a trumpet modifier in ORAS when I played them if they'd included that.

...but why on earth was it available at the end of the game?! This should have been a feature from the beginning; another app for your radio. That I had to use my Action Replay to activate this from the start of the game was absolutely criminal.

i never really got to try that actually. seems cool though if I want to have that extra nostalgic feeling when I wander Johto and Kanto
