Time for another funny blog entry, and I was answering a question in B/W's Quick Questions when suddenly, the person I was replying to thought I was male.

Thanks man, I'll just keep cycling....

I'm actually female. Guess my avatar/sig confused you.

Notice she called me a "man", meaning she thought I was male? I know I use a lot of male-looking avatars and sigs, and several newbies have not noticed I was female but I laughed at this so much.

So, do you think that my avatar/signature at the time is what makes people assume what gender I am? Give thoughts in the comments.

And remember, don't let my common choices for avatars/signatures fool you. I AM FEMALE.

He wasn't specifically calling you a male, it's a generic unspoken rule of the internet that 'we recognize everyone as male by default'.

Also no, I personally never cared enough to guess a person's gender from their theme.

It really isn't them assuming you are a man, or even people auto-assuming everyone a male until spoken other wise. It's just a saying.
My housemate has said "aw thanks man" when I do her a favor. It's just a saying, such as people saying "DUDE!" when not really talking about 'a dude'.

"Thanks, man" is like what others are saying; a figure of speech.

And really, how do you know if they really meant short for human ;3

I call girls man and bro a lot of the time. More than I call guys that, actually.

While I'm just a newbie I thought you're male because your Julian Assange theme. xD

"Man" is just a generic term when you're talking to someone in a laid back way, nothing to do with gender. :p
