    [PokeCommunity.com] General Computer Chat v2.0
Old thread here. Last page of the old thread here.
This is the general computer chat thread. Discuss technology here! Anything goes, as long as it's tech-related (and follows the rules, of course).

Naaah... I could probably do better. Buuut? I'd rather not, because not pushing my computer to it's limits means it'll be ready for whatever I need it for.

In other news, I bought a new laptop! It's pretty sexy, if I do say so myself~

That's pretty awesome. Probably better than the desktop I built (granted, I built a budget desktop, but still). Of course, my desktop only cost about $500.

So now, seems like Chrome and IE9 have a bit of a sandbox problem in the annual Pwn2Own contest. Both fell! Seems like there really is no such thing as the invincible browser, huh?

Woah. That's a pretty good deal for just over $1200.

I believe I do push my computer to it's limits, but that's not very hard, considering it's just a netbook. In other news, I calculated what the cost of my dream computer, a fully tricked out Mac Pro, would cost:

    Apple.com said:
    Xeon "Westmere" (12 cores)
    64GB (8x8GB) Memory
    Mac Pro RAID Card
    2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive x4
Two ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB
    Two 18x SuperDrives
Apple LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel) x2
Apple Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
Quad-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express card
Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
    Epson WorkForce 545 All-in-

    Grand total: $15,094.95

Guessing I won't be buying this for a while.

Also, if you're buying an unbranded PC instead of buying that computer from Apple, I think you might end up getting a sizable discount on everything.

That system you posted is truly the machine that just works within the entire decade, and further beyond! On the other hand, you could buy a whopping 10 really capable gaming PCs with that budget. :)

Let's see what I would buy...
    *ditches Xeon for Core i7/5*
    *Cuts RAM to 8GB*
    *Skips the RAID card*
    *Stops at one hard disk*
*Gets the newest single-card, single-GPU card*
*Gets only one DVD Super Multi drive*
*Skips the other monitor and opts for a Samsung*
*Goes Logitech on keyboard and mouse*
    *Skips the PCI Express card*
    *Skips the DisplayPort adapter*
    *Keeps the AIO printer*
*Replaces OS X with Windows 7*

I wonder how many thousands did I just save by doing exactly that?

Well of course, but what's the point of having a Computer like that if it's not from Apple? ;)

    1. Okay, I could live with that..
    2. RAM's cheap. Why not max it out?
    3. S'pose I don't need the RAID card, but it's nice!
    4. Now how am I going to store a 300GB music collection, and give a VirtualBox Windows 1TB?
    5. Okay, okay, I suppose that wouldn't kill me..
    6. Now how am I going to copy from one disc to another instantly?
    7. 54-inch sexy Apple HD canvas > some 20-inch Samsung thing.
    8. For $30 more, keep the beautiful white keyboard and awesome multi-touch mouse!
    9. Hmm.. I'll have to thing about this one.
    10. Now how am I gonna project movies on to a huge canvas?
    11. First good thing you've said all day. ;)
    12. That's like replacing a 3DS with a Game Boy original! WHY WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING?

    There's your answer.

One thing I know for sure - I wonder how high the WEI score for that computer would be? All 7.9s? Ahahaha! I'm not sure on 9.9, though. I think the GPU might be a bottleneck in this case, if you're aiming for the perfect computer. Haha

64 GB memory whaaaaaaaaat. I really hope I read that right. O____o

Though I'm not very fond of Apple, but with that much memory, I can pretty much do everything faster than my current comp. xD And gaming would be a piece of cake.

Here I go wanting an Apple computer again. xD

I really want a MacBook Pro at this point.

However, one of the first things I'm going to do with a MacBook Pro is to...

Obliterate the OS X install and stuff Windows 7 for some reason.

I wouldn't mind adding Windows 7 in the Mac computer. If I do get an apple computer, I'd keep the OS. I'd like to expand my horizons and explore the OS, giving me experience.

This doesn't really convince me though, as there are windows software available for Apple. :P

Am I missing something? What's the point of getting a mac if you're just going to put regular windows software on it?

What's the point in that when you can use Boot Camp to install Windows 7?

You might as well just buy a high-end non-Apple laptop if you're just going to install Windows 7 on there. Saves you the cost of having to buy an OS license twice, and the high-end machines contain just as reliable hardware as a MacBook, if not more reliable hardware.

    Teehee~

That's precisely the reason why I bought something not Apple in the first place a few months ago. I don't really see the point in OS X right now.

Hey guys, I just have a quick question, do any of you know any good programs that download videos off of YouTube and convert them to iPod format? I've been using one, but I had to reboot my computer and just found out they only have the upgraded version, which you have to pay to use. :/

I think Freemake Video Converter works pretty well for me.

    Thanks!

And just a quick question, for some reason each time I try downloading it, it downloads Microsoft NET, should I let it download, or is it something bad?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework

.NET Framework is required by a good number of software. Heck, if you're running Windows 7, it always has it up to a version number. It's a Microsoft component, and it should be installed when you need it. Chances are a Windows Update might give you one anyway on newer systems.
