I should point out that:
1) i never said in that you couldnt change teams this time round.
First Post said:
Rules
- 6 vs 6 Battles
- No Ubers*
- Knockout-style Tournament
- Same team for the entire tournament
- Clauses: Status, Species, OHKO, Hax item, evasion. (tell me if i forgot anything)
- Players not turning up without a good reason will be disqualified.
I also was explaining that not all legends should be banned to Alakazam, Lumine, Marthmaster, etc. Don't insult my intelligence.
Anyways banning random legendaries is dumb. What are you doing banning Jirachi, Cresselia, and Celebii? Like you said, most legends are as powerful as ou's...so then why are you banning these pokemon, of comparable strength? Come on, you're better than that. Let's go over why these pokemon are not ubers:
Jirachi-He has a horribly predictable moveset, and can do nothing by himself. Everyone knows that Jirachi will tote Wish/Uturn/Reflect/Zen Headbutt. Unless it doesn't, and uses, say, Doom Desire/Psychic/Thunderbolt/Hidden Power (something)...in which case Jirachi gets walled to death by Blissey. Jirachi's offense isn't that great, and so he needs his teammates to do work.
Cresselia-Psychic is a bad type to be if you're a defensive pokemon. Cresselia has a weakness to 3 very common attacking types. She's 2hko'd by cb TTar's Crunch, ohko'd by cb Hera's Megahorn, and 2hko'd by choice specs Gengar's Shadowball. Chances are any serious team will have at least one of these pokemon. And Cresselia has terrible offensive capabilities. Basically she comes in and just kind of sits there, doing nothing, giving her opponent an opportunity to switch pokemon and set up. Unless said pokemon is Gyarados or a dragon, Cresselia's not going to leave a mark. Compare this to, say, Blissey, who is able to deal out damage 100 at a time and wear away -anything- without a recovery move in 3 or 4 turns max.
Celebii-Once more Psychic is not the greatest of types for a pokemon with a more defensive movepool than anything. Grass is terrible too...so there's a whopping 7 weaknesses. Which wouldn't be an issue of Celebii were fast, but it isn't. Basically you'll get off a Calm Mind, something faster will switch in, and then you'll be forced to switch, effectively wasting 2 turns. I'd name common pokemon capable of a ohko against Celebii that are faster, but that's a fair portion of the meta. Unless you run a timid Celebii with max speed ev's. In which case almost anything will knock you out. Celebii just isn't that good of a cm baton passer, compared to the likes of, say, Espeon. And the argument that any good Celebii must be hacked is pretty flawed. There are some widely distributed and legit Celebiis on Smogon with good ivs.
Shaymin getting banned I'm fine with I guess, if only because it hasn't been officially released. Manaphy should be banned though...being able to set up Rain Dance to get a free full recovery every turn in conjunction with rest, and up your special attack by 6 stages with no difficulty is just too much to handle in a standard environment.
