That was the theme for the first US season, but Ash/Satoshi doesn't seem to be interested in catching any. Since coming to the Hoenn region, he has only caught Treeko, Tailo, Corphish and Torkol, although Torkol joined without a battle. (I know he gets another, but those episodes haven't aired in America yet.) It seems to me that it would be hard to be a Pokemon master with so few.

you're right*adds that to checklist of advance/advance challenge faults*that was the whole poin prof oak gave him the pokedex

Well i dunno, remember in Johto he hade a Few Pokemon?.

He didn't catch all the Pok?mon in the Kanto seasons either. That slogan was made up by the Americans when they imported it into the English community, but they have since dropped it.

"Gotta Catch 'Em All" was more directly the tagline for the Red/Blue Game Boy games in September 1998. It just carried over to the TV show for some reason, even though it was never Satoshi's intent. Besides, the anime has established that owning one of every Pok?mon in the world is not a requirement for becoming a Pok?mon Master. And Satoshi's Zukan is already completed, evident by the fact that it actually has data for every Pok?mon he flashes it at.

but it was used in the episode ash caught crabby he ownly did it cause brock and misty told him he needed to catch more pokemon

I see your point, but im glad he isnt trying to catch them all, it would be boring if he did, the ranges of pokemon he could use would be so high that it would be stupid, plus if he cought all the legandaries that would be unrealistic, disapointing, and bye bye pokemon movies!
    LOL

nah, I like it his way, just catch pokemon needed to battle, and keep it at that.

That was a dub line, I'm sure. I don't trust the dub for anything anymore (hence why I stopped using the English names).

'Gotta catch 'em all'... I thought they already resolved this one here.

This phrase was originally invented by Nintendo of Japan (and America), as an attempt to market the Pokemon games. From my standpoint, it seems to have worked.

As far as the series goes, the dub of the show is the only version that uses it as a tagline. After the Johto series, they stopped using it in the theme song. Maybe 4Kids is finally getting the message... (Now if only Toonami would do a 'Pokemon Uncut' series as well...)

Gotta Catch 'em All is NOT a Japanese phrase. "Pokemon Getto Daze" is basically Get Pok?mon in Japanese. The GCeA tagline was invented for the games and got pulled into being used for the dub of the anime. Don't blame the Japanese writing for ENGLISH DUB IDEAS. 4Kids doesn't tell the writers what to do.

4Kids is using that as the title screen for Pok?mon Chronicles (yet they choose to not acknowledge it being called Chronicles in the opening). Not to mention, the opening theme for Chronicles repeats "Gotta Catch 'em All."

Catching more Pok?mon =/= Better trainer. Satoshi made it further than Shigeru and even beat him in Jouto, thus proving he's the better trainer.

Good point. He doesn't seem interested to catch them all.
He only catches the Pokemon that want to come with him, in a way that is kind of him. While other trainers like Gary would just catch them without even asking those Pokemon if they want to come with them or not.
I guess that's why Ash's Pokemon respect him so much.

I don't think it matters how many Pokemon you have. Ash could defeat the strongest trainer with only one Pokemon if he was lucky.
    That's what I think anyway.

Yeah, I mean, if catching pokemon was a measure of how close you were to becoming a Pokemon Master, then Ash would probably be reeeaaally worried right now. Three regions with less than 100 pokemon? That would not be good. ^-^

I remember being confused about this, when I suddenly came to the realization that I could beat the Elite 4, and the champion in the games with only a handful of pokemon. Thus, catching all of the pokemon is really not that necessary to be the best of the best.

I think Ash is doing what he should be doing; beating everyone that's higher than himself. I think he needs to challenge more tough trainers like Tetsuya and Masamune though if he ever wants to be prepared for the next league. He always just beats the gyms and a few trainers along the way and then totally loses to some extremely strong trainer in the league. I think he needs more practice with strong opponents that don't specialize in a certain type. It's way harder to try and beat a balanced team of multiple types.

Then maybe he'll actually get closer than 8th in a league. =P

It's all about quality NOT quantity. Ash's Pokemon are all quite powerful and all have individual personalities, with his teams it's is quality, we have seen with Ash's Hoenn team aswell as May's and Brock's.

If Ash had loads of Pokemon they wouldn't be as powerful because he doesn't train that much anyways and we wouldn't be able to see their individual personalities either...

Well,I don't think the other trainers are trying to catch all Pok?mons too...It's not a good idea..(I never liked the slogan too)
A true trainer IMO doesn't need hundreds of Pokemon, but s/he trains his/her pokemon well.
Do you catch more Poke's or make yourselves better in the -yup,anime shouldn't be compared to,but- games?(before finishing the scenario)
Does a Soldier carry all the weapons in the world when going to a war? (?)(:P)(!)

i think that ash really respects his pokemon but he takes too much time like the treeko he caught he could of used pikachu to use thunder bolt and throw a pokeball at it what does he care. anyway gary has caught way more pokemon and has stronger ones too .
ash has a relation ship with his pokemon
gary doesn't care he just catches them like i do

Uh..didn't you learn anything from the show? You have to WEAKEN a Pok?mon in order to guarantee a capture. Pikachu DID blast Kimori with a Thunderbolt, but it obviously had no effect while it grounded itself.

And obviously you haven't seen Shigeru's change of attitude between Kanto and Jouto. o_O He's a completely different trainer in Jouto.

I agree that Ash/Satoshi shouldn't catch every Pokemon he sees, nor any trainer for that matter, that could be considered cruel. But I think it would be a good idea to catch at least one of each type. Especially a Loudred. :15:

I love it when people put up a fit whenever Satoshi passes up on all the common Pok?mon that he and the group run into all the time. What's the point in throwing a fit over not capturing Spear or Tyltto if they pass so many of them often?
