"grammar"

Shouldn't "uses good grammar" actually be "uses grammar well"?

Do you use good grammar?
I always try to use good grammar. If I ever catch myself do something wrong, I go back and fix it (hopefully) before anyone notices.

Do you care if somebody else uses good grammar?
I don't mind too much as long as it isn't distracting and I understand what is being said, but I find good grammar is just easier on the eyes. Spoken grammar, though, I usually care about more than in writing. (The biggest problem I have with my sister is that she uses "much" instead of "many." ex.: "I've seen that movie so much times.")

Should grammar be something to measure somebody's merit or worth?
It shouldn't be used to measure any person, but people with consistently bad grammar should probably double-check what they're writing to see if it makes sense.

I'm not even good at grammar in my own language, haha. I don't know/remember any rules and only go by gut feeling. Same thing in English, except that here, the gut feeling has a much higher probability to be wrong.
Weird thing is, if I see someone having terrible grammar in English (and, from my point of view, terrible means a lot) I can usually tolerate it, while if someone uses blatantly wrong grammar in my language, I can be quite a grammar nazi about it. As an excuse for this I might use that fact that the percentage of native speakers is far higher than in English, so they should be more likely to know how to write at least somewhat correct sentences.

Well generally, Id use good grammar, unless...maybe if I'm taking to someone causually like in AIM or MSN; but usually I tend to use good grammar on those too. In terms of online, I really don't care if people use good grammer or not; I don't like to judge people from that as well. When it comes to situations like English or conversations; I guess I am alittle more picky about one's english. My mother uses good grammar in all forms of communication as well; even when it comes to like, texting on her cellphone, so I guess it runs in the family I suppose. As for if grammar should be something to measure somebody's merit or worth, it depends; casually, it shouldn't matter. If I typed a sentence with no capitals or commas and made spelling errors, usually I people I talk with woudn't care (unless this one friend I know who is a total grammar nazi ^.^; ) However, when it comes to formal stuff, like english essays, it would make sense to use the appropriate grammar. Well, because it is English after all; you wouldn't want to start leaving out periods or mispell words, or any moundo as such to a constructive peice of writing.

I try to when posting on PC, not so much if you're talking to me in IMs because I just don't care.

do you care if somebody else uses good grammar?
Well, obviously you can't expect me to like it if someone is posting liek dis al de tiem an theyr benig srs. So I don't care too much for it, so long as it's just not so bad that it's unreadable.

should grammar be something to measure somebody's merit or worth?
It shouldn't be, but more often than not, it is when it comes to the internet. You can know the coolest people ever in person, but online, their grammar is just the worst you've ever seen, but they're still that same person. So it shouldn't matter.

I try my best to make sure my grammar is correct. Writing's my favorite hobby; grammar is very important in what I enjoy doing. It's not perfect, of course, but I try my best! :D I'm a bit more lax in my PC posts and even more lax in IMs/texts/Twitter, but on the whole I try to capitalize and use punctuation everywhere I go.

I don't care if other people's grammar is good or not. As long as I can understand them, they can do what they want. I don't think less of them.

I strive to use good grammar. Like sammi-san, I'm a writer, so grammar has been something that interested me all my life. The rules stuck in my head, so despite the fact that I don't care as much as I used to, I can't fully let go of "proper writing." It's stuck with me so well that I'm known for my grammar knowledge in real life as well as online.

I used to judge others by how they wrote online, but then I grew up and decided not to care. It really depends on the setting, though. Like here on PC in a casual post, if someone uses bad grammar, I'm not going to hate them. But if it's a story posted in my section, I tend to notice it more because a story should have proper grammar. Or if a reviewer is telling someone to improve their "grammer," then it's funny. Otherwise, I'm more lax towards others using proper grammar. Especially when speaking. When I'm talking to someone, all rules are broken.

Really, grammar should only be judged when it really counts. If someone is applying for a job or writing a paper for school, then grammar should matter. That's professional. If someone is in a casual setting, then grammar shouldn't matter because that's just silly.

Though apparently I give off a vibe that I care, because when people are around me, their grammar improves. I just use good grammar because it's what I'm used to. Everyone else is free to just be readable, since unreadable text is just a big no-no.

The way you use grammar and spelling on the internet usually lands you with a stereotype. I have compiled a list here for quick reference.
ppl hu typ lik dis r fb junkies lol
PEOPLE WHO TYPE LIKE THIS ARE OVER 50 YRS OLD AND MALE
people who type like this are 'cool' fb junkies, lol.
People who type like this are new to the internet or really uptight or forum junkies.
People who type like this (:D) are new forum junkies! :D ;D :O :3

There are probably more stereotypes than the ones listen above, and many people might not fit into them. Heh, no one said stereotypes were true.

I like to use proper spelling and grammar because I fear that if I don't, I may lose touch of it. Before I came to this forum, I fit under the "fb junkies" stereotype. After learning that using proper spelling and grammar on a forum is usually the way to go, I stuck with it and now I use proper spelling and grammar almost everywhere.

As Mizan also stated, using proper spelling and grammar helps to get your point across. So there's no harm in using correct spelling and grammar all across the internet.

my posts aren't unreadable and if you think less of my opinion because i didn't use good grammar, chances are i don't care what you think of my opinions anyway.
Keine Imitation Fail.

Do you use good grammar?
Writing is my greatest joy in life, so, yes. I write essays for S&Gs.

Do you care if somebody else uses good grammar?
If they're expected to (Dealing with someone for business or discussion), then, yes.

Should grammar be something to measure somebody's merit or worth?
Actually, yes. It tells a lot about the person at first glance, and it's like any other first impression.

I'm using grammar in the sense of capitalization and punctuation, not coherency.
Which is odd. Grammatical sense is much more important...

what does keine mean? yeah well that's what i wanted to ask the question about so whatever. sorry for being odd.

really don't care anymore. if you care about how i present my posts then (like stratos99) you're probably not the sort of kid i'd like to hang around with. it doesn't help that my understanding of grammar/english is probably better than 99.9% of the try-hards who attempt to lecture me but yeah life goes on. i want to have fun, i don't enjoy being bound by rules that only need to be applied in school and when i'm writing (i might be a good procrastinator but i write every now and then i swear!).

I think it's funny when people miss out capitalisation, yet still use other forms of punctuation. Because it's just a PC fad made up of people that started copying poopnoodle to seem "different".

I don't really care that much about grammar, when I'm typing it usually just comes naturally. It only matters to me if a message is illegible.

lol i'm pretty sure people have been typing like that since '95.

Not on PC, and not you and Justin.

@ both of the the posts below: hahaha, such lies. It's a blatant fad, this is undeniable.

oh okay i was like huuuuuuuh? lol.

it's funny though because i spent some time capitalizing my posts because i knew that was a big thing around here, so i was sort of trying to copy everyone else. it didn't stop for any particular reason i just sort of reverted back to how i always type. this should answer your questions from msn gavin.

edit: actually i think i misread your post. i've been typing like this for a while now, i know you've seen me on cosmo and you might have seen me on vglan. though if you want to say i'm just trying to copy poopnoodle that's alright i suppose since i think she's a pretty cool person and her posts look great with all those emotes!

i actually do put more effort into my posts on pc though despite what you may think, i neglect periods on cosmo and sometimes don't bother to use apostrophes. but whatever you say man! you know me better than i do i guessssss!

edit2: hahhahah at the post above. are you trolling or just ignoring the facts? ;c

i'm just typing as i want to. if it was down to sav i'd say so but i'm a free agent vendak, i can do what i want. i don't think i've ever read one of her posts since i started posting like THIS so if you want to start something we can take this outside alright?

edit: good to see post comments are still functioning you brave anonymous little child.

what does keine mean?
Not that it matters, but I'll answer your question anyway.

Keine Kamishirasawa (Pronounced "Keh-Neh" or "Kine", depending on how accurate you want to be. AFAIK, the former (With the "Keh" being like a softer Spanish "Que") is more "accurate") is a character from Touhou Project and a schoolteacher in the Human Village. She values knowledge and learning over conflict.

The "Keine Imitation Fail" is a reference to Keine's forced "Above it all" attitude that she displays in the works of UsuallyDead, which mask several issues that she has with her identity as a were-hakutaku.

Don't read too much into it, like I just did.

Well I do try to keep it as accurate as possible!
I don't mind if people make grammar mistakes (most of the time), but some of them are quite annoying!
It isn't proof of someone's worth, but perhaps someone's effort to make his/her post as qualty as possible...

sometimes i use good grammar, depending if i feel like it or not. the only other thing is i like to use smilies and some abbreviations. XD
