I was so going to start a thread like this.
It not only disturbs me but ticks the living dayouts out of me. I am stick of hearing "Happy Holidays", what Holiday are they taking about? Is Lincoln's Birthday the holiday they are talking about?
All I hear from people is "It offends me to hear "Merry Christmas", all I got to say is "You people offend me". And show me where it says "You have the right to not be offended". I'm a Christian (I'm Baptist) so when people take Christ out Christmas it's pisses me off. Jesus is the reason for the Christmas season. Now it hasn't got to were they will take out mangers and everything Christ and leave other stuff. But it has gotten so far that kids can't have Santa toys in schools, no classes can hang up Santa cut-outs, and it has even gotten as bad as kids can't wear both read and green (like a red and green shirt) to school around Christmas time. People that works at stores can't say "Merry Christmas" because some places has fired them over it (sure they were warned saying you can't say it, but that's not the point). It's done went past the "Do away with Christ" part (to me Santa is fine for little kids, but when I was a kid I did think there was a Santa. But at the same time my parents did teach me the real, true meaning of Christmas) and it has gotten to the "Do away with Christmas" ways now.
Now like Blaze said, people does it and says "Happy Holidays" because it's going to offend people. Ok so it offends atheists that we say "Merry Christmas", well they can go jump in a lake. The US was founded on Christianity, what is so wrong with taking a that one day out of the rest of the year to celebrate Christ (all the Holidays we got is Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving, the other 362 days has nothing going on or other Holidays like Veteran's Day, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa etc going on).
I just think it's sad that it'll "offend" a few atheists when the US is made up of like 75-85% Christian (or something along them lines, it might be 75-85% believe in some Religion). The fact is most people believe in a higher power, just different Religions. It's just a small group of people that wants it gone. And most of that 15-25% that's left doesn't really care. As in they think saying Merry Christmas is fine.
And in Gov stuff it all falls under "The Separation of Church and State", they use that term that isn't anywhere in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution. But people use it to take Christmas stuff off of Gov places.
Over all I think it's sad that every place you turn they are removing Christmas. Not only the Religious part (well for some time that's been gone) but the whole thing itself. All because it offends a few people, and we just can't have something like that. I am glad that the Capital did change the name of it's tree, it was called a "Holiday Tree" but they did change it to it's rightful name, a Christmas Tree. If enough people stand up then I do think things will start to roll back a little to the way it used to be (Where you won't get a shock because you say "Merry Christmas").
I know I ranted, but I'm good with ranting. XD
