First of all, we're human beings. No human being can truly purposefully ignor someon, especially since in this case it's the written word,a nd it lingers. :\
Second, That is all a load of hooey that if you ignore them they'll stop. If they desire attention, then they'll do anything to get it. It doesn't maek tehm stop. It makes them more violent. I speak from experience. NEver ignore them. That's asking for further trouble. Ignoring things is what has made society the hell hole it is toaday, pardon teh expression.

That's one thigns that frustrates me about society today. People talk about change, but aren't very quick to act on it. Did anyon PM the mods, or the admins? I understand we rescently got two new mods, but I don't think that is gonna cut it. :\

Cut what? Cracking down on spammers?
The last big incident we had was kind of a fluke—Arcanine and I are quite good about checking PC. However that day we were both unable to, and it so happens someone struck.
As for forum-to-forum kind of spam, the best thing you can do is report it as you see it. That helps a lot, really.

that's not good enough. Did you see what that last guy posted? For the sake of thsoe who didn't, I'm jsut going to say it wasn't just flaming, and it wasn't pretty. Neither you nor Arcanine was there, and being the only two strong enough to handle that situation before people get riled up over it, he had free reign and wa a pain in everyone's hind parts until he was finally kicked off and his topics locked. thre are too many people like him, and I vote we dcrease our chances of that happening again by increasing or improving the staff.

And even the little spam is a problem, and needs to be dealt with almost immediately. i may be grating on some people's nerves right now, but I feel that we can't jsut write it off as a fluke and then keep going like nothing happened. Because something did happen, and if we don't take measures, it will happen again.

And what about all the times we *did* catch them? Far more than times we had it left this way. And no permanent damage was caused—yes I hear it was horrible but the smods dealt with it.
Adding another staff member like Andy or I is a huge thing, and someone only the admins can decide. Even if we *wanted* to we don't have the actual power to assign more admins like us.

We're fine with our current staff. Look, Zapchu is becoming more active and she's an admin. Andy and I are active—when we'd_really_need new staff is if neither of us came on for days or weeks at a time. But such is not the case, this was one incident.

As for small spam, yes it needs to be dealt with. It can often get worse than "big time" "spammers" who trash the boards. Their works is obvious, but the small stuff is easy to miss and can sometimes be worse off in the end.

What happened the other night wasn't that bad compared to other times. o_o If it was just flaming, you should consider yourself very lucky, since that's probably the best type of hurtful spammer we can get. I mean, it might be nice if there were someone with IP ban powers online 24/7, but it's not gonna happen. For now, the best way to deal is to get the S-Mods to ban until someone who can do it gets on. o_o It's worked for years now, so why fix something that isn't broken? (And that other night really was a fluke - Abby and Andy are almost NEVER both away at the same time like that.)

You know Pogiforce, I thought long and hard about posting that huge post after I wrote it. I thought that there might be, as you suggested, spammers who would "become more violent"(Like if you could kill someone on the internet) when ignored. Then I eventually decided that anyone who would come to a forum, see someone spamming it, and then take it seriously enough to insult them back has problems more serious than idiocy: the problem they have is Stupid. Stupid is a very serious disease, and judging by your post you might have it; you should check with someone.

I mean, seriously, if you're that much of a brain dead dolt that you're going to take an internet message board spammer seriously enough that you can't even ignore him, and want to insult him back so much, then it would have only been a matter of time before your dumbass did something stupid like killing yourself if they hacked the board. Anyone that stupid probably shouldn't be living. Trust me on this one. What's the deal with posting this topic anyway, are you 12 or something? How hard is it to ignore text(That you don't even have to read if you didn't want to) on your screen? And about you being bullied at school, did the fact that comparing that with the internet spammers is stupid ever cross your mind? I mean come on, you could beat up those bullies in real life, but how well can you beat up people on the internet? "Flaming" them to make them stop is a stupid idea. It's just making them happier because they got their attention, and once they realise it's a good way to get it, they'll always come back for more. Although this may not apply to every spammer, but I wasn't posting a step-by-step magic solution to deal with every spammer the world has ever known, I just wanted the people in here to realise that flaming them back is not a good way to deal with them. If not replying didn't work, then mods deleting their topics and admins banning them is the best way to ignore them. They won't get any attention this way, and they'd quit eventually.

Yes, flamers on a forum are annoying. And calling him stupid and etc. IS flaming with him. I don't agree about "fighting back" or getting more mods, but please respect him. Respect is the key on any forum to successful discussion. But you relentlessly are going after him for no reason, and what does it help? If he replies and flames back, you are doing exactly what you're chastising on about.

The fact is we work to clean up spammers messes, since it interrupts the flow of the board. However the best thing those without mod powers can do is not provoke them, and make it worse. Especially those who don't just post big/porn/whatever messages, but the ones who try to stupefy authority and think they're great if any one figure of it falls for their trap. So the best thing to do is stand back.

However, point made your post was just unacceptable, there's no flaming. Please please don't do it again. And now I'm going to close this, cause it's going to lose its topic real fast.
