HG/SS Help Thread

Ok. Few minutes ago I was battling sabrina. Her alakazam took me out in one hit. I was using my houndoom at level 74. Why is that? I know that fighting type move is strong against dark pokemon. But my houndoom is half dark and fire. So I taught it crunch, dark pulse, shadowball and flamethrower. Let me know. Thanks. My pokemon is not ev train.

I've got 2 questions please.

1. I really need a Thick Club and I've been catching billions of cubones and marowak's at the Rock Tunnel, Bulbapedia and other sites say that in HGSS wild cubone/marowak howld a thick club for 5%. I'm also trying to gets 20000 watts on my Pokewalker to get Scary Cave.

2. Sorry if this has already been asked but what is the best place to get my pokemon from Lv. 50 to 60? I tried Mt. Silver but it takes aaages.

Thank you so much

Sorry, I'm missing the question here...but yeah, they're incredibly rare...you would be better off giving a pokemon the tm Thief, making sure it doesn't have an item, and using Thief, then running away, rather than catching them all...it's a lot cheaper.

Mount Silver is the best spot for wild pokemon....however, seeing as you have 16 badges...Gym Leader Rematches, particularly Kanto ones.

For example, I trained an Arcanine from lv.50-70 against Bugsy and Erika, whilst also raising a Sharpedo from lv.50-70 against Blaine.

1.- Use Thief and a Butterfree in the lead because Compoundeyes raise the probability of find items in wild pokemons.
2.- Rematches with Gym Leaders, E4 and some trainers. Also a Lucky Egg always help. ;)

I recently plant some orange berries in the pot and they have not yet grown. Why?

How long ago did you plant them? Oran Berries (those are the ones you planted, right?) take sixteen hours to grow to a tree, with four hours for each stage.

So figure out when you planted them, and work from there.

lol I don't know when I plant. I plant them sometime last month.

Oh. You must be going on your DS at the time when they've shed their berries and reverted to a seed again. So, if they haven't even sprouted yet, you just need to go on your DS about 2-5 hours earlier, and you should see a full-grown plant with berries ready to pick.

Hope that makes sense, and helps you

you mean oran berries? it's oran not orange.

if the berry grows into a berry plant and you don't collect the berries within a set time limit, the plant will go back to a berry and the growing stage starts over. but I think after too many times of the plant regrowing it just dies and doesn't grow back (not totally sure, but on diamond I was using my berry app for my poketch and the plants I had in places that I never went back to disappeared after a while and didn't come back). so if as you said you planted a month ago, the times you had gone back to check on the berries might have happened to be the times where it reverted back to berry. in other words, you took too long to collect the berries. and the berries might have died completely by now...

now I bet the plant has regrown so many times that it just died. not too sure about that, though. is there a berry in the soil? if yes then it didn't die. if no then I'm right about it having been regrown too many times

I'm about to give up on connecting my ds to my wii message thing for the gts trades... no one will help me. if someone wants to help a guy please pm me or reply to this post...

Today I decided that I want fight in the battle tower with my level 80 pokemon. I got creamed. I entered dragonite, amaphrose, and houndoom. That bug that the fat guy use on me killed 3 of my pokes. So I was wondering if they're pokemon are ev'ed trained and what level are they do you know? The tower I was in was never loose! keep wining. The one with the shining glass floor. I need help. Thanks.

I dont think they are ev trained, but why are you using ampharos? theres way better choices for battle tower.

Ampharos is my only electric pokemon for now. I haven't had time to train another team yet. I'm still working on my first team.

OK after finally someone actually helping me and pointing me to the right section, I have found where this belongs.

I have been considering a team for HG and after much process of elimination I have kind of decided a team, but I would like to hear of any flaws from you people. (I apologise if this isn't in the correct place, I'm new here).

Meganium
Umbreon/Espeon (I don't mind which, I won't force it to evolve into any form, either will do).
Starmie/Lapras I'm not sure which to have, Starmie is part psychic and has really high sp. atk, but Lapras is a tank.
Ampharos
Fearow
Arcanine.

Could anyone suggest maybe a better flying type? I've never really liked playing with Fearow, but his statistics seem quite good.

I would love to hear any more suggestions. :3

Hmm, I'm considering now including a Heracross. Opinions? Also, I'd really like a Houndoom, I've never used it, but I'm not sure if I can find it fairly early on.

All things considered, it's a very fine team. If you do decide to go with Houndoom (although I prefer Arcanine), I'd replace Arcanine and make sure Eevee evolves into Espeon (though Espeon is a better choice in-game over Umbreon, period). Heracross could potentially replace Ampharos or Espeon/Umbreon, although they're all great Pokemon.

There are tons of better Flying-types than Fearow, including Crobat, Dragonite, Togekiss, Yanmega, Honchkrow, Skarmory, and Gliscor (although Gliscor can't learn Fly).

I've used both, and personally, I find Starmie much more useful than Lapras, although they're both great. However, if you do decide to use Starmie, teaching it Ice Beam through PM should be a priority.

I just recieved a pokemon with a meaning of pkrs in white and purple letters. So what does that mean? Pokerust. That's what I been hearing that people are trying to get. The pokemon I got is a female licklicy.

Does anyone know how to solve the puzzle for the ho oh in the ruins of alpha? I've tried but I couldn't figure out the pieces. Any guide for it. Let me know thanks. I really want to catch the rest of the unkowns.

meganium: my least favorite starter evolution lol but ok it's fine.

umbreon/espeon: espeon is better than umbreon in general. umbreon has lower attack and better defense, but isn't really a defensive pokemon because it's not that much higher. plus with the lower attacks, and the fact that it doesn't learn any good dark moves really (STAB) make it pretty weak.
>> espeon however has high sp atk and speed so you'll be able to attack quickly and strongly enough for the lower defenses not to be any problem (ie making the opposing pokemon faint before it ever gets to attack you).
so I'd say espeon

starmie/lapras: well you already have a sp. attacking psychic type on your team (espeon) so it's kind of a waste to put it in. if you put lapras in, you'll gain an ice type to your team and, like you said, it's a tank so you'll gain that too. good for switching in during battle and such when you need to switch and don't want the one you're switching to to be instantly killed. you can base your movesets for your team accordingly. so I'd say lapras

ampharos: sure why not.

fearow: that's a tough flying type. it's very fast, and has very good attack, which, as said above, makes a very good combination, but dodrio seems to be better. even better attack, and slightly better defense, too. I'd say go with dodrio instead of fearow.

arcanine: well houndoom is good too. they're both good pokemon. arcanine has slightly better stats, like defenses and...well that pretty much it, but houndoom has the advantage of being dark-typed. that makes it immune to psychic, but also weak against fighting. well, arcanine is generally more powerful but houndoom just as good if you want to get it. but houndour is on route 7 (kanto)... there's always trade though!

for heracross: it's mainly fighting, so having one on your team would be good against normal, rock, steel, ice, and dark. arcanine covers ice and steel, and lapras/maganium covers rock. but normal and dark you have nothing super effective against.

- you can take out maganium. the types that grass is super-effective against are covered by other types on your team. so it really has no advantage besides being your starter who you love. note that meganium has high defenses while heracross has really high attack power. choose which one you want for your battle style.

- you can't take out espeon. too many type advantages lost if you did

- same with lapras

- you could take out ampharos. flying is covered by lapras and water would be covered by meganium. those are the two types electric is supereffective against. this would be better than meganium...

- if you took out houndoom/arcanine that would mean...well, nothing. everything is covered. but fire is good and these pokemon are powerful...

- flying...supereffective against fighting, grass, and bug. these are covered already. flying isn't really that good so this might be the one to take...

well, of the above, the best ones to take out for heracross would be ampharos or dodrio. dodrio has good atk and speed (good combo!) but ampharos has a better (sp)attack power (though bad speed...), better defenses, and better hp. also lapras is better with water than ice so if you were to take ampharos away you'd be losing strength anainst flying-types. I'd say take away dodrio.

FINAL TEAM:
- meganium
- espeon
- lapras
- ampharos
- heracross
- arcanine (or houndoom if you're willing to trade or wait till route 7 (kanto))

I'd like to argue that statement about Umbreon. I have one on level 52 that withstood attacks from a level 75 Lugia. So it's not a bad defensive Pokemon, if you'd like to have one on your team, that is. Most people don't seem to like having a defensive Pokemon for just in-game playthroughs, though. Just thought I'd say something to give poor Umbreon some justice.

I just recieved a pokemon with a meaning of pkrs in white and purple letters. So what does that mean? Pokerust. That's what I been hearing that people are trying to get. The pokemon I got is a female licklicy.

it's not pokerust, it's pokerus. like virus.

it's a rare disease that pokemon get. but it's not bad. it's actually very good. it doubles evs. so in other words, you only need to battle two geodudes (+1 def ev) to gain a point in defense, instead of four. pokerus makes ev training MUCH easier. you can get it with a 3/65,536 chance (1/3 the chance of getting a shiny), so it's VERY rare and VERY valuable. providing you didn't cheat to get it of course

when a pokemon in your party has pokerus, all of the other pokemon in your party will get it too after a short time (battle and stuff. after like 3 battles they'll all have it).

NOTE! at midnight, each pokemon in your party that has pokerus will heal. it will lose the pkrs letters, and will show a smily face on the infected pokemon's summary. the pokerus will no longer be spreadable from that pokemon. --but-- the pokemon will still get double evs.

to prevent losing pokerus, put at least one pokemon with pokerus in your pc. when midnight comes, pokemon in your pc that have pokerus will keep it. it only goes away for your party members. put simply: pokemon in the pc don't lose the pokerus (but also can't spread from the pc. you have to put it back in your party to spread the pokerus). so infect a random pokemon (just catch a random ratata or pidgey off the street) with pokerus and keep it in your pc always, and only take it out for spreading purposes. you might want to keep a few of these spreaders just in case you accidentally leave the spreader in your party at midnight. trust me it happens.

Hey all, I just recently got my game HG version. And I was wondering, is there a place where you can remember moves? Like in platinum for exchange of a heart scale. I need to teach my togekiss some moves, but I don't know how. Please and thank you!!

yes, there is. he's in blackthorn city, in a house left of the pokemon center and mart. the move deleter is there, the move tutor (you need heart scales in this game too. I know you can get them as pokeathlon prizes, don't know where else), and two other tutors. one teaches dragons draco meteor if they have full happiness, and the other teaches fully evolved starters their signature moves (frenzy plant, blast burn, etc I think) if they have full happiness.
