How adorable...too bad it can't fight to save itself. D:

Lilligant is one of those Pokemon that just desperately needs Hidden Power... another word, not usable unless you use pokesav to get the proper IVs to pull it off. After that it got everything covered or else you got 4 moveslot syndrome.

I personally want to use Vanilluxe cause it just looks super goofy and it's an ice type XD however, even with ice beam and hidden power, just what does it do with its other 2 slots... like, light screen and then...? blah

Liepard is so under-rated and should have better stats, it's a great Pokémon!
(I have a level 75 Liepard and she's amazing for my team)

- Whats your favorite pokemon with an amazing design but crappy combat potential?
I think Piplup is pretty cute, and I don't want it to evolve, but I think Piplup is kinda weak but determined.
- Do you let that deter you from using it?
No, I will always use Piplup. I'll make it level 100, but won't let it evolve by using an everstone.
- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant?
I'll just raise it's level, and make it love me. ^__^

A lot of you guys are basing a Pokemon's potential on its stats, but stats really aren't the main thing. Lilligant isn't awful, it just has specific niches, such as Quiver Dance, Own Tempo+Petal Dance, Powder Moves, Teeter Dance, Worry Seed, Fake Tears, Charm, Healing Wish, Aromatherapy, etc. Like most Grass-types, its a supporter naturally. If you don't want to use HP, Sleep Powder+Dream Eater isn't a terrible option. Every Pokemon has potential no matter its stats, with some specimens just requiring a bit more creativity and a lot less complaining. Furthermore, GF attempted to remedy some "deficiencies" with certain Pokes this gen, with Magcargo getting Shell Smash and Piloswine getting Eviolite and Thick Fat. I can assume that the majority of you don't peruse Pokemon movepools and abilities for potential strategies that might combat a Pokemon's seemingly low stats and capitalize on its higher stats, but do yourself a favor and never write off a Pokemon you like as weak. Just flex your creative capacity.

Here's an example: Furret gets Frisk as a DW ability. One might say, "Terrible Pokemon, terrible ability." I said, "Fantastic." Covet, Fling, Trick, U-Turn, and an item such as Light Ball or Iron Ball is all you need to completely disrupt an opponent's item-related strategy in a competitive battle.

The moral of the story, as said by Karen of the Indigo Elite Four: "Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."

Ah, one last thing. To the OP: It isn't Garby's fault (and I can refer to it as Garby because it is also a favorite of mine) that you used it the wrong manner. Perhaps its possible to use him as a Toxic Staller but, to me, he has no natural inclination to be such based on his stats. Don't discount him just because he's a poison who doesn't Toxic stall. How about a Rock Polish+Stench+Rock Blast combo? Each time you hit with RB, there's a 10% chance to flinch the opponent. Gunk Shot, Curse, Spikes, Clear Smog, Explosion, Acid Spray+some great Special Attacking moves, Recycle (such a neat-o move), Toxic Spikes, Stockpile, Amnesia, Payback: I can't even begin to understand why you would limit him to being a boring Toxic staller when both its movepool and stats beg you to make him something else, such as a lead (perhaps suicide?) or an attacker, whether special or physical. I'll say it once more: get creative! Using Pokemon that others deem "horrible" but in reality are awesome just makes you a more intelligent and skillful battler.

I'm growing a liking to Stoutland now, but I still don't like Herdier.
Don't come to chat anytime soon. XD;

I really hate Emboar now, inititally I thought it was really cool, but as I played with it throughout my White game it starting to get ugly so I ditched it in PC and swapped it for Excadrill.

i hate how its either the 2nd/3rd form of something or its crap(excluding legendaries)

i mean how epic would a double battle be with plusle and minun if u wernt taken out so fast cuz they r both just between pikachu and raichus stats

- Whats your favorite pokemon with an amazing design but crappy combat potential?

Gothitelle is a favorite but EVERYONE says she's a piece of ****. Im sad that she doesnt has good stats like Renuclus.

- Do you let that deter you from using it?

NO WAY! I still love her. She's awesome depending on the patience.

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant?

So many ideas suu little tiem (n n)

1. Make her part fighting. Like a female Gallede.
2. Give her more fighting moves and others
3. Give her a higher attack stat and Sp Attk stat
4. Give her a better ablity. Moxie. Defiant, Guts >>> Frisk
5. Make her both a physical and special attacker so she can get away with anything like her counterpart.

Dunsparce comes to mind. His design is one of the best in the series, but he can barely fight. However, in a playthrough of Gold, I caught one and used it anyway. It wasn't too bad in game, but the postgame was bad for him. To save him, make him Normal/Ground and set him up with better stats and access to Earthquake and other Ground type moves. STAB Earthquake would be great for him.

Hmm....to me (as of Pokemon Black and White) it is Banette
- Do you let that deter you from using it?
Yeah because now I am starting to notice that it gets knocked out way too easily
- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)
...........I'll give it the ability Wonder guard lol. For Banette's stats, make the Defense and Special Defense higher

:t354:TG

The one for me is Emboar. But I still have him as my starter. But I just wish his stats weren't focused around Physical Attack, most Fire types are Special Attack IIRC. And Emboar being a Physical Sweepr personally annoys me. Plust its defenses SUCKS!

Emolga. Flying squirrels are a nice concept, but Emolga is goddamn weak. Yes, that did deter me. To improve it, I just want average base stats, like Druddigon. Hate how smaller non-legends get maltreated.

- Whats your favorite pokemon with an amazing design but crappy combat potential?
- the hoppip family I think. hoppip always seemed really cute with it's face and the two long leaves for wings, but the fact alone that it can't even learn an attack until level 10 is dire, especially considering that that move is tackle. :| not only this but it's movepool and stats are poor evenm when it evolves all the way up to jumpluff. to bad, I really want to use it more outside of the in-game team.

- Do you let that deter you from using it?
- not in the in-game team. stats never bother me there, I just use my favourite pokemon what can learn a decent amount of TMs (unfortunately for jumpluff, it's still not that many), although for competitive battling... no thanks.

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)
- looking at it's stats it would be a support pokemon, although sadly, I think that it'd just be outclassed by whimsicott who has prankster. therefore, I'd improve it's sp. atk base stat and give it a few more TMs to learn so it can be a decent special sweeper rather than a special wall.

Torkoal, but I wouldn't say he has crappy potential.

- Do you let that deter you from using it?
No, I actually use him pretty effectively on my triple battle team, but there are better options out there.

- What would you do to make this pokemon a better combatant? (alter their base stats? alter their movepool?)
Maybe Game Freak's could alter Torkoal's Ability, White Smoke, a bit. Right now it prevents any stat reductions from the opponent; it should prevent self-inflicted stat reductions as well. This way he could spam max-powered Overheats.

His Special Defense would need to jump from 70 to 90 and his Special Attack would need to go from 85 to 100. His HP is currently 70, so a little more in that department wouldn't hurt either, but if he can already spam max-powered Overheats with 100 base Special Attack it might be a bit much.

Klinklang. I really hate him.
100 and 105 in physical stats, and its strongest physical move is Vicegrip, 55 base power (excluding Giga Impact, but it's so awful).

Bedrill is pretty weak, but Delibrd takes the cake. It's so cute and awesome, but sadly it can do nothing :( I tried to use it in every Johto game, but it just doesn't serve a purpose. It really needs a better move set.
