How big is IV breeding?

So I have a question for the community. How important are IVs in terms of competitive battling? Are they the make or break for matches?

I'm not ashamed to admit that even after playing pokemon for the last 16 years of my life, I only got into EV training the last month or so, yet IVs seem much more tedious so I was wondering how viable it is to battle with only EV training and no IV breeding?

IVS are hugely important, it's a 31+ point stat difference between a 31 and a 0. At the most extreme, it is the difference between a KO and not a KO

I usually content myself with 5 perfect, as there is ALMOST always a stat the mon doesn't care about. The only exceptions to this are mixed bulky attackers, so I just don't screw around with them. But it is worth it and not too terribly time-consuming to get 4 or 5 if you start with a 6IV Ditto, especially if you can find a 2 or 3IV other parent of a good nature.

Bigger Iv better stats so make a calculation 186 all 31 in every stat is called flawless and 0 is called very bad. In other words a good site that can help you is serebii. Go to pokedex and compare the stats max stats of a pokemon you will see that it differs. Although evs are included to them but you will notice differences. To sum up IVS are very important like ddrox13 above said so try your best to have a pokemon with ivs as close as to 31 to each stat :)
