How do you pick which version to buy?

I buy both versions at the same time, so my dilemma isn't "what version am I going to buy?" but rather, which version am I going to be playing first?

And how I decide that is which version is going to be more appealing in terms of exclusives? For X and Y, I picked the latter because Heracross and Yveltal. For OR/AS, I'm picking Ruby because of nostalgia factor. Ruby is the first 3rd Gen I played, so it would only make sense to play Omega Ruby, would it not?
 
When it comes to original games, I usually go with version exclusives or if I particularly like the mascot Pokémon (like Xerneas with X version).

For remakes, however, I usually pick the game that I played first. When HGSS came out, I went with SoulSilver because Silver Version was my first Gen II game. When ORAS comes out, I'm going with Alpha Sapphire because Sapphire Version was my first Gen III game!
 
It honestly depends for each game. Something usually just "clicks" with me for a certain version, be it the mascot, color of the box, evil team design (if there are teams exclusive to a version like R/S/E), and so on. Very rarely do version Pokemon exclusives play a role, especially now, since I can get whatever 'mon I want through trading anyways.

For B/W I nabbed White because I liked white as a color, Black 2 for the challenge key and Zekrom, X for Xerneas, Sapphire because raaaain, and so on. My boyfriend and I usually get opposite versions as well.
 
I dont know! but i think its what colour you like best (for me its blue)
Blue = Alpha Sapphire
 
For some odd reason now that this thread comes to my attention I just figured out that I coincidentally always pick the version that goes first. For example:

Pokemon Red & Pokemon Blue - Pokemon Gold & Pokemon Silver - Pokemon Ruby & Pokemon Sapphire - Pokemon Diamond & Pokemon Pearl - Pokemon Black & Pokemon White - Pokemon X & Pokemon Y

Before finding this out (like 5 minutes ago) I always chose the one that seemed the coolest to me in terms of either legendary or color, also I didn't list remakes because I pretty much obviously pick the same version I already picked.
 
I always picked based on what legendary I liked the best. I never got to choose with Red/Blue, Gold/Silver or Ruby/Sapphire (although that was because my brother had Sapphire and made me get Ruby) though. The ones I got to pick though were Pearl, because Palkia just looked more like a dragon to me, White, because Zekrom just looked like the meaner dragon of the two, and X, because Xerneas is majestic as fudge, and a nice change from all the dragons for once. :)
