How to alter system message appearances?

I was wondering how you go about changing the text color and window skin of any system messages. The wiki explains how to do this easily with speech text, but the same rules don't seem to apply to system text. For example, if I wanted to change the color and skin of the command list in the Party screen - how would I go about this?

The window skin used is "choice 1", which can be found in the Windowskins folder.
I don't know exactly where the text colour for system messages is defined.

Yeah, but I don't want to outright replace the windowskin for everything, just when a specific thing is selected. Like how the \w[x] command changes the window for a particular chunk of speech text. Basically I want it so when the player selects a particular option in the command list the window skin changes to display the text of that option; but displays the default windowskin otherwise.
