    I saw several incredible hack roms that were abandoned by their creators, with the beautiful map and I would like to reuse these maps already made is there any way to do this? I tried to open a hack rom using advanced map, but it didn't work, is it possible, or do I have to settle for these games to be incomplete?

    I can't say this with complete certainty, but I'm pretty sure you can't edit them. If you wanted, you could contact the creators and ask for their resources to continue the hack, but I imagine that would be pretty unlikely. Besides, even if you could edit their work with advanced map, it might be sketchy to steal their maps without permission.

    its definitely not possible, or if it is, it would be so difficult to not be worth doing.
    DIfferent rom versions are made from recompilling a rom with different code added. So at its core it isn't the same as it was before, and from what I've been told, different compilers operate in different ways, so to even reverse what was done you'd need to use the exact same compiler the initial changes were made with. Plus a knowledge of everything that was changed

    And far as I know even that's not guaranteed to get you to a workable state. also are you using advance map 1.92.

    and what rom are you talking about, the reason they're incompatible could just be because advance map is only good for gen 3 games. If that's the case then you need a map tool that works with that gen.

    @zerodown

    Is it possible? Just like the original ROM's, yes definitely.

    Is it convenient and worthwhile to go through all that trouble without knowing what the original creator enhanced? No, probably not, although it could differ per ROM Hack.

    Since you're new here, I reckon you came here because of the most recently released ROM hacks? Those would probably be hardest to edit due to all the content (new pokemon, moves, abilities, etc.) that has been added in random free space of a ROM. I wouldn't even try editing them, especially not when you're just starting out.

    depends on if it was made with decomp or binary, if its binary its simple and you should have no issue opening them in advance map.
    you didn't try to open the patch file with advance map by chance did you?

    You need to apply the patch to a rom base copy, then open that with advance map.

    If its an expanded rom you may need advance map 1.95 but that can be buggy so be very cautious if you try that.

    Most unexpanded roms I've seen for gba are 16mb. If its more than that, try 1.95 if that doesn't work then give up.

    But if you get it working, you can use HMA to find most everything in the hack, and advance map to make physical edits.

    If you're reviving something truly dead, keep the same name (or mostly so people can identify what its related to) , and make it clear what you're doing.
    and always credit the originator.
