How to Tell if your Child is a Goth

Dignity said:
Okay, first of all, to be "Gothic" you don't have to believe in Satan, or do witchcraft, or even be depressed! In fact, I know a LOT of "Gothic" people who are happy! So there. Most of these "facts" are wrong.
I completely agree, and the proff of that is...me, yes, I do have lon hair, dress in black, and am antisocial with people I don't know, but I am perfectly happy*faints*

Chairman Kaga said:
Friggit, how can you all be so gullible as to think that the average Christian defines the goth culture so broadly? I've seen this list posted at different forum by ignorant people, for ignorant people, and it ends up being a lightning rod of hatred toward something that the people replying don't even know about. If you believe that this is religious edict you're deluding yourself.

Most of the world is taught that moral relativism and absolute acceptance is the only way to live, which, in an irony that many won't admit to, is one of the impositions of opinion that so many here have expressed animosity toward. Let me play Devil's Advocate here for a second (and, again, how unfortunate and ironic that in this instance I must refer to the list as something supposedly evil) and say that people have a right to their own moral code, and they have a right to be vocal about their opinions. What many of you have missed out on here is the beauty that is law and structure, and in your youthful nature to rebel and your social call to reject, you instantly proclaim anyone with an opinion that paints to you a picture in blacks and whites rather than shades of grey as "evil."

There is no word more overused, no word more misunderstood than evil. To the average young adult, good and evil's meanings are switched, and any person with a purpose to spread a particular vision of what the common good is (or, more accurately, any person with a purpose to spread a particular vision of something that infringes on the hedonism of or criticizes the sociocultural/sexual identity of others...especially yourself) is evil, scum, inhuman, or at best, merely insane. The person who wrote the article has a positive intention in what they are saying , and even though they have committed the unpardonable social sin of sharing their own vision of right and wrong, people denounce them for having an opinion different than theirs. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the epitome of intolerance, even though holier-than-thou accusations intolerance are being bandied about in this thread to make the author of the list seem like a villain. To blindly reject someone, to hate someone and belittle someone out of mere difference is what is happening. Many of you need to redefine what you consider hatred; many of you need to accept the existance of moral codes, even those you do not share. For what kind of person does it make you if you denounce someone for their beliefs? It's petty.

I may not agree with everything that the author says, but I can still accept it. Mockery is unnecessary; this thread was even more unnecessary.

Well said, my good man, and I agree with you, if for different reasons. Although I believe to a large degree in personal choice, there is a place where I must draw the line. This does not croos it, the author made the choice to write it, and has every right to distribute it. Misleading; perhaps, but so are several of the comments I have seen here. One can be amazingly intelligent and still be misguided or misleading. Not everyone with a seperate opinion is a bigoted, ignorant moron. Unfortunately, I cannot complete my thoughts at the moment, class is over. I SHALL RETURN!!!

Woah, dude...I hope you're joking about worshipping satan...
Why would I joke about that x_x

Anyways, a load of people said before me that this is just one person's view *Pokes Dakota* and they are right.

Evil is also missunderstood as Kaga said before me. 'Goth's' are viewed upon by some as being evil...this isn't true at all. Like I said before, you can be a happy go lucky guy in your fourtess, wear pink t-shirts and play with my little pony and still be a goth. How you can call that 'evil' is beyond me...all that is different is that Goth's have different belifes.

So sorry...but worshipping Satan is evil...

It seems that the attributes listed consist mostly of basic stereotyping ideas. And, while some tendencies may be considered dangerous (drug use, attempts at suicide, etc.), institutionalizing your child for eating a certain type of cereal somehow seems slightly extreme.

Actually, even Christians are in a cult. A cult is a system of community of religious worship and rituals. EVERY religion is a cult, English is the only language that has a problem with calling things cults. All over the world Christians admit to being in a cult because that's what religion is.

The list itself is stupid, it's devoid of any real idea of what kids do these days. They expect things to always stay the same and for tastes not to change at all. Most of the things on the list are what a normal teenager would do most of the time...minus the whole blood thing.
Yeah, but we have names like 'denominations' xD;

LMAO! The almighty *If Your Child Is A Goth, Reform Through The Lord* list!
I remember when I first found that...well, my friend fount it circulating thorughout his church.
A bunch of friends and I printed off somewhere near 500 copies of it, and passed it around the school and hung it up in bathroom stalls and whatnot.
My art teacher even took a copy and made a few copies of it, which he handed out to students in his other classes.

Good times.

I am the furthest thing from goth and I spend much time alone, I don't practice religeon, I like spending time alone with friend without supervision, I am interested in sexuality, I dance in an inapropriate manner and guess what. I'm a prep kid. It's not a goth thing. It's a teen thing.

16 apply to me (18 on the real list)
