How would you explain Pok?mon to someone who doesn't know it?

Most people have heard of Pok?mon or played some or all of the games. But some people still don't know what Pok?mon is, even though it's now a 20-year-old franchise which includes games, TV shows, movies and manga.

So if you did meet someone who didn't know what Pok?mon is all about, how would you explain it to them?

A journey about a 12 years old kid living in the world of potentially doomsday critters who contains them inside a tiny ball and battle them with other humans to become the best slavemaster ever while also becoming the hero for foiling some teams' goals who aims for the world destruction or probably something else.

P.S. You can't have everything, so get on with it.

Personally I just say "Pokemon is animals with magic that fight like WWE"
    Or do what others say

It was quite funny explaining to my dad what was going when i was Breeding a shiny rowlet
"See dad, Im forcing a jelly to have sex with a ghost archer by walking around in a bull, if they do it then i talk to this cowgirl, it gives me an egg and I hatch it by walking some more in the bull next to my fire bird (Talonflame cuz flame body) and pray i get a green owl"
