So today I decided to watch Steven Universe for the first time. I went in thinking I was going to hate it but I really enjoyed it and want to watch more of it.

When did you start watching Steven Universe?: Around June 2015, I watched the majority on a plane, and I haven't looked back since.

So today I decided to watch Steven Universe for the first time. I went in thinking I was going to hate it but I really enjoyed it and want to watch more of it.

How far did you get? The show starts off a little weird but once the writers get into the groove of things it gets much better. You're going to love what comes after.

Yeah, my assumption has been that Cartoon Network made the first batch of episodes appeal more to younger children, then let Rebecca Sugar's chains loose to make the series more mature and, well, amazing.

Also, I've been browsing the Twitter accounts of the SU team, and the wording of their tweets makes it seem like the next new episodes will be in Steven Bomb format. I'm not that sure about it, though. Thoughts on this?

If that's true, I'd be a tiny bit disappointed. I'm not really a fan of steven-bombs, I just like to have something to look forward to every week. When they're in a regular TV season format, it's usually the highlight of my week. Hiatuses kill me x.x

Agreed, they make me die on the inside. Also, sneak peeks of new episodes keep on getting leaked in Europe. I normally wouldn't mind, but these leaks are EXTREMELY SPOILER HEAVY. I'm not going to ruin it for you guys, but I beg you to be weary while browsing SU things on the internet. I would hate to see it ruined for others like it was for me. :'(

Hey friends, now that SU is back on air I'd like to revitalize this club! I know things have been silent during the hiatus but new episodes have been on air since May 12th and they've been amazing so far.

I was a bit worried seeing the beginning of the two-parter since I assumed it'd be a filler... but the staff quickly tied it into the plot and finally, after so so long, Jasper and Lapis were unfused. Seeing those poor watermelon souls about to be sacrificed to Malachite though, eep. D:

The cluster finally comes to an end too. I loved the way this was pulled off, though I admit I kind of did hope for some epic battle.. but it's hard to even imagine how the Crystal Gems would've beaten it had it taken form so bubbling them up was a realistic ending. Seeing those poor broken crystal shards suffer so much was painful to watch. And d'aw, Peridot is so sweet.

My thoughts on Super Watermelon Island:

As I mentioned about Chille Tid, I think it's very interesting that Steven has psychic powers. Did Rose?

The fight scene was the best in the series! Malachite taking on a five gem fusion and almost winning is incredible. Are Lapis and/or Jasper going to have eye problems after that brutal punch in the eye?

I was so happy to finally see them unfuse. Finally. But I thought it was cheap that Jasper disappeared immediately afterward. I really wanted to see them interact outside of the fusion; Jasper's change in attitude toward fusion would be interesting to see. Could she develop Stockholm Syndrom for Lapis after seeing her strength?

I'm not a fan of Peridot, but she was my favorite thing in this episode. Her banter with Steven was funny, and I was glad to see a less pigheaded, more sensitive side to her when she talked about her creation. Also, now we know what gems think of the minerals they're made from.

I disliked the rest of the episode, sadly. The Cluster was dealt with way too quickly IMO, and even though the point of the episode was that Steven made the shards work in tandem, they were already saying things in tandem when he got there ("form, form," anyone)? And I expected that ancient shards would have had more interesting and dramatic things to say...

Overall, loved the first episode, was disappointed by the second. The next one looks great based on the previews, though, so I'm looking forward to it.

So glad that the eternity-long hiatus is over! I was slowly withering away until In Too Deep was announced. Anyways, here are my thoughts.

Super Watermelon Island:

I loved this episode. Seeing Malachite finally unfuse was very refreshing, and should've happened earlier in my opinion. I loved how the melons were living, the baby melon statue worship was really cool. Also a bit disappointed in Jasper's disappearance, I was curious to see how she changed since being a prisoner and her changing perspective on fusion. I have a feeling that we'll see her again soon though.

Gem Drill:

Whoa. My expectations for how this episode was going to happen were shot into pieces, and I couldn't be happier about it. If it hasn't been made obvious before, we know for sure now that there is still more to Steven's powers than what we've seen. Peridot is one of my favorite characters, and seeing so much of her in this episode has been wonderful. The cluster was...wow. Hearing the drill grind into those gems was horrifying, which is why I'm glad that it didn't get destroyed. Also, who would have ever guessed that it would get bubbled? I definitely wasn't, but boy am I happy about it. Kudos to Rebecca on this one.

Thoughts on Same Old World:

I loved seeing Lapis and Steven having fun together. They even referenced the stupid fart joke from Lapis's debut!

I'm still suspicious. Why was Lapis visiting Earth at all? And why was Lapis so weak? She survived an exploding spaceship intact but poofed when a Bismuth punched her? And she gets cracked just by being stepped on? I thought Lapis was the strongest character in the show!

Also, if Rose supposedly treasured all life, why didn't she let Lapis out of the mirror? Pearl picked up the mirror when Rose was still alive (based on her outfit).

I guess that the yellow, white, and blue blast was like a nuke from Homeworld that corrupted all the gems on earth and would have killed Garnet and Pearl if Rose hadn't used her shield. Lapis wasn't affected because she was in the mirror. Maybe the blast is also what changed the geography of the earth.

Sorry for the inactivity, it's been a busy Summer for me! So...has anyone else been drinking from the giant stream of episodes that is the Summer of Steven? Because I sure have. I'd love to give my thoughts on these episodes, but there has been such a constant flow of them. I feel overwhelmed when it comes to discussion, to be honest.

It just feels really strange with there being so many episodes in a row. I'm not used to it at all.

The new episodes are amazing. Even the episodes focusing on side characters I never cared about before were actually pretty amusing and not a chore to watch at all. Found out I actually really like Kiki! Plus we've had a few old characters make cameos, glad to know they're not completely forgotten too. SU is so awesome.

What stands out the most though from this batch is Centi... Her drawings were so sad, it hurt me seeing her break down the further along she got into telling her story. At least she got reunited with some of her old shipmates even if it was just a few and they're still corrupted gems.

Knowing how these corrupted gems all had their own past and other gems dear to them makes it that much harder to watch Jasper go around heartlessly poofing them. /:

Well, my favorite ones are probably Mr. Greg, plus the huge plot bombs that just ended season three.

Oh my lord!!!!! The craziness of these episodes are insane! Bismuth showed that Rose really wasn't that great, and then Steven finally fuses with a Crystal Gem? And then Jasper fuses with a corrupted gem, while getting corrupted herself? And the truth about Pink Diamond being shattered by Rose? Steven in space? The insanity cannot be overstated. We just received the biggest plot progression ever in an extremely low amount of episodes. Wow. Just wow.

Gah, Mindful Education was such a wonderful episode. "Here Comes a Thought" is one of the purest pieces of music out there. I loved it. ♥
