I think this is the place for this.

So, who/what pokemon do you always had with you? And why? Except your starters.
The one you always catch and train. ;)

Me, i always catch nidoran, cause his final evo is a very reliable sweeper. And also a good tank. ^^

Hmm... this would probably be better suited for Pokemon Voting Polls, so I'm going to move this over there.

As for myself, I try using different Pokemon with every playthrough I have, but I've found myself using Pidgeot and Lucario across three seperate generations, even though it wasn't intended. With Azumarill's added Fairy typing though, I could see it continuing to be useful down the road as well, and I'll probably keep using it as one of my go-to Water Pokemon.

    MOVED.

In Kanto, I always seem to get myself a Hypno and a Primeape. Lately, I've switched Primeape out for Hitmonlee, and earlier I used to always have Kadabra instead but figured Hypno was more reliable.

In Johto, I don't really think there's a pokémon I just gotta have. My starter, probably, as I feel strange playing through that region without Cyndaquil.

For Hoenn, it's Skarmory. I always catch and train a Skarmory, it's so incredibly useful and reliable. Plus, it learns FLY :p Back when I played Ruby and didn't have Emerald, I always had a Zangoose also, but they aren't in Emerald, sadly.

In generation one and two, I simply couldn't live without Gyarados. Used to think it was quite a powerful Pokémon, and it certainly was. It was able to learn a range of attacks, including Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Fire Blast, and Surf; this is what made it so great. In three, I started using Skarmory more often; loved how strong it was in terms of Defense. Unfortunately, though, I started growing sort of tired of it in generation four, and used Metagross as an alternative. Finally, in gen five and six, two of my most valuable Pokémon would be Togekiss and Espeon. :]

Using new pokemon is one thing that keeps the games exciting for me. However, I have used Butterfree SO much. Until recently (hell, even sometimes now) I've been finding any and every excuse to get it on my team. It's one of my favorite pokemon and its compound eyes paired with things like supersonic and sleep powder and toxic and whatnot is just so much fun. :D Took everything I had to not use it in any playthrough of my X version haha.

Hmm, my first thought was the starter Pokemon, but I don't really feel like that would be much of an answer? I mean it's not one I actively seek to get, and I just keep them because they're usually relatively strong compared to a lot of other Pokemon, as well as they usually end up being the more well-trained ones.

But as for Pokemon I'm not actually given, I'd have to say the starter birds. Following my love for Pidgey, I'll usually pick up the starter bird of the region, whether I end up liking it or not. The three specific ones that I really like, and the ones which I probably will use in any future playthrough of their respective generations, are Pidgey (duh), Taillow and Starly. Despite how weak the bird Pokemon usually are, they often turn out to be really useful, even though some of them might suffer late game. Specifically Taillow in that department. It's really great in the early game, and it often ends up becoming my highest leveled Pokemon at one point or another because of how well it can fare in battle early on, but the further I move through the games, the weaker it becomes. By the league it can't really hold its own, so yeah :p

But yeah, I can't really think of any others. Of course there are a few Pokemon of each region that I prefer using, but I'm not necessarily gonna pick them up each time I play those games, so I wouldn't really count them haha.

Game wise? *shrug* It's like, whatever. But if I were to extend it to existence in general (which can only be viewed retrospectively), I'd be sad if the Nidoran family didn't exist. It's hard to really say, because again, this can only be said retrospectively. If they never existed, it wouldn't have mattered, and it's likely my original favorite, Vulpix, would just take their place.

But assuming all other things played out as they did? I wouldn't be into Pokemon anymore. Vulpix is an extremely high favorite, certainly in the top 3, but they don't fill me with much enthusiasm. The only Pokemon other than Nidos to do that was Kirlia and Mawile back when R/S was announced, and even then I burnt myself out on them eventually. Without Nidos I would have quit Pokemon altogether after Generation III, which (retrospectively), would have been a shame because I would have missed out on the gems that are the sixth generation, and by extension those that I missed from generation V. The greater majority of generation IV is just far too "meh" for me, they don't invoke any feeling, which is the worst they can possibly be. They say the opposite of love isn't hate, but apathy.

So, all that said, given my enthusiasm for the Nidoran family (bar Nidoking, sorry man), it really was on them to keep me at least tangentially interested in Pokemon as a franchise during my Pokemon burn-out between the tail end of Gen III and the beginning of Gen VI, odd as that sounds. So there you go.

TBH though to say I couldn't live without them is really pushing the hyperbole. I'd honestly be fine without them, either way, but here we are.

    [PokeCommunity.com] I can't live without..

I've had a Crobat in virtually every one of my playthroughs since my first Crystal run. It's my all-time favorite pokémon and the one that my PC friends most associate with me. XD

It's a very fast pokémon with a solid attack stat and quite a few tricky moves at its disposal. It can be a little frail, but it can and has pulled through for me countless times.

While organizing my Pokémon Bank the other day, I counted up all the different crobats I have trained and used since GenIII to a total of twenty-one. XP

I try to change things up every play through, but I have trained a ton of Staraptors. Had one in each of my two successful Nuzlockes, and on many other occasions as well. Starly was my first PokeRadar shiny, so had to train that up. And it's probably the best first route option in all of Pokemon. Great offensive presence, good coverage, fast, Intimidating, can't ask for much more.

Hmm. I tend to really only play 2 different games and they have completely different Pokemon.
In Fire Red - I always use a Nidoking. Bulky, good move pool through TMs. Strong. Earthquake.
In Emerald - I always use an Altaria. Sweeps Elite 4 pretty easily. Good flying type. Easy to train and you get pretty early. Ice Beam.

Since Gen. 1 I've always had a Zubat on my team. I adore bat pokemon, they're my favorite of all time, Golbat helped me in dire pinches with it's poison, and over the years as Crobat, it's only gotten better with various movesets!

So, who/what pokemon do you always had with you? And why? Except your starters.

That would be Aggron in almost any Generation. I really enjoyed his design, the way he is just cool looking, the steel-type going on and stuff. I don't really know why, but I just really wanted him in as many of my teams as often as possible.

I don't really do this. I always want to switch up my team when I play a new game so I try to vary it up everytime. I honestly think over the years (besides starters) I've probably repeated the same flying types more than any other Pokemon because I want them for Fly and there are usually a few decent ones to choose from every game.
