Its good if you hate him! Its what the writers intended! So if you hate him, you hate him in a good way. If you hated him because he was annoying or stupid, you would hate him in a bad way and get sick of him appearing. Hating him because of his personality or because he's cruel to his Pokemon is good; you hate him, but love him because he causes conflict so you can't wait for his next appearance! (like me) Which shows that the writers are doing their job properly. :)

Meh, he's better than Ash. At least he doesn't TRY to act like he cares, like Ash does, dumping off his pokemon at Oak's every year or so just to go catch more pokemon to be his 'friends'.

I like Paul. ^__^

Simple answer. I like Paul's character, but hate how he acts. The thing though, he really is good at what he does. He's a great pain-in-the-___ character who shows up only ever so much.

If only Team Rocket would follow his example and only show up once in awhile. Then, maybe they'd finally get something DONE in the Anime, instead of dragging the story on.

As for Paul, I can't say that I HATE him. But he's definitely a nice break from the cheesy enemies that we've been getting lately. He's definitely a guy that gets on your nerves. And those are the best types of villains.

So well said, I think I'll explode.

I'm kinda blank on him for the moment, but I certainly don't hate him. Besides the obvious reasons, his dub actor is Jake from Daria! I can never hate for that. Shifty eyes.

Frankly, he's just the writers making up for Gary, so I wouldn't cast blame on him.

And second with what SBaby had said.

I actually think that paul is better then ash because ash all he does is catch some pokemon from different region then he beats some some leaders with and then he dumps then at oaks lab how pathetic well he keeps his pikachu and some of his pokemon hasnt evolved yet like his bulbasaur ash didnt want it to evole. And his charizard was his best pokemon ash was better of keeping him but no he had to sent him somewhere and he sent his squrtle somewhere else and he also had to release his pigeot.

Look at paul he has loads of strong pokemon compare to ash like torterra and weaville and that well at least he doesnt release his pokemon like lame old ash and also ash's pokemon isnt at its last form like pauls.

Poor Chimchar! :( I can't believe that Paul would actually make his Pokemon cry!

What Charaxes said. Hate the character, but love what effects he's had on the anime. Now Chimchar has a kind and caring Trainer, and in retur, he'll give his all and make Ash proud.

That's a shame.
I love Shinji. x3

Then again, I think girls tend to like him better than guys. xD

I find him to be the most interesting character in D/P, and he's one of the few reasons that I actually put up this generation at all.
Because he actually has an interesting personality, not like the main trio.. Ash has lost most of his amusing personality over the years,
and Dawn gets annoying. Brock is, well... Brock. ^^;

Theres never been a character in Pokemon that's been like Shinji before, so things like how he treats his Pokemon, and gets away with it, is interesting to me. Rivals are always awesome to me, but even Gary and Drew didn't go as far up on the jerk meter as Shinji does.

If he were taken out of the series, it would be quite a bit less amusing, and rival-less too ( -GASP- ), so why totally hate him if it makes the series more interesting?

To be honest, I like Paul. He is a new start, and he has more depth then Ash so far (after...I don't know....9 SEASONS!?), and he has potential for lot more. Like, maybe there's, I don't know, a reason for why he treats his pokemon badly?

And, in my honest opinion, Ash isn't too much better then Paul. Don't believe? Read:

Point 1:
Ash: WOWZERS! Another region!
His pokemon: =D *Yays! More fun and adventure!*
Ash: I'm going to leave all my pokemon to rot in the lab for no real reason whatsoever!
Pokemon: *Wait...what!?*
Ash: I mean, really? Why bring a team of fully evolved pokemon, so I can train them to be stronger and actually win the Pokemon League for once, when I can start with just pikachu and get a team of non-evolved pokemon!
Pikachu: PIKA! *yay* -magically goes from level 242352342 to level 2-

Point 2:
Pidgeot: -Ash, I need to stay in the forest and defend my fellow kin, the pidgey and pidgeotto, untill they can protect themselves from the Fearow-
Ash: Okay. I'll come back for you later.
-A few bajillion seasons later-
Pidgeot: ....You know what? Ash, since when did later mean A QUADRILLION SEASONS! TO THINK I'D ONCE GIVE MY ALL FOR YOU!
------
Pokemon stuck in lab: Tell me about it....

Point 3:
Bulbasuar: *about to faint*
Ash: ZOMG U CAN D0 1T BLBSR!1!
Bulbasuar: *fully revived*
Trainer fighting him: ZOMG! HE HAS THE VOICE! (Note: You'd have to have read Hoenn Insane to get this one line.)

My point:
Ash leaves pokemon to rot and only wins by pep talks that magically revive pokemon.

I'm I an Ash basher? Why, yes, I am.

^Just saying that if Ash didn't leave his pokemon then he couldn't really catch any pokemon. I mean the game dynamics are different from the anime, you actually have to bond with pokemon you catch or they become like Brock's pokemon and don't really have much depth(or any we can see because they have no screentime). Also, realistically people would say what they say about Ash being annoying and wanting to see new charecters about his pokemon. Rather than "Oh Ash needs to stop elaving his level 9000+ pokemon at Oaks!!!!!1111" you'd hear "Why can't he catch some new Pokemons!!!111" Not to mention he couldn't switch out pokemon every single episode to show charecter devleopment of his pokemon.

But I digress, I am kind of indifferent to Shinji. I mean he is a jerk there is no argument there, but he is what most trainers are like who play the game. You don;'t want a pokemon if it's weak and you find it strange to bond with weak pokemon. I mean granted he could try TRAINING his pokemon, but eventually his ways are going to catch up to him.

You've just made my night. You should make this into a separate thread, actually. Because the Ash-bashers need such wit? Heh. Off-topic, yes, so you should move on it. Shifty eyes.

Some of us are like him. Not me.

He looks for the strongest of a Pokemon species (Like the Starly). Possibly looking for the right nature, EVs, IVs, and stats.

He can look for strong pokemon, b ut he doesn;t have to treat his own pokemon like dirt. I mean he had all his pokemon blast poor Chimchar during the Tag Battle arc.

Yeah...Hyper Beam, Focus Blast, Thunder, and Shadow Ball are all powerful attacks.

It's just a tv show. Lulz, how can you hate him, it's his personality and every show needs a guy like him. I don't even watch the show anymore, but I have seen 3 episodes with him. I'm basically lost....so...

oh man i love you for posting that
hahahaha!!
it's all really true
but in the old series he won and lost his fair share of battles
in the newer seasons he's just SUPER DUPER AMAZING and WINS EVERYTHING EVER except the pokemon league which makes no sense at all.

Another reason I don't like Paul is because he has the inability to actually say good job even if a pokemon does their best. I'm not syaing be a happy-go-lucky annoying as heck Ash-like trainer, but it wouldn't kill (oh whoops no he'd be banned to the shadow realm XD) to say "Good job, Electabuzz."

He rewards them by letting them stay with him. It's an honor. *nod*
