Well, I believe that they used to change names, but then stopped because it was getting annoying with all of the requests from the members to change their names (or was that just mods? Meh, not sure).
 
Well if it was limited to how often or how many times people can change their name or just have them PM an admin then it'd work better. People change them in threads just because they can. But having to reregister to get a new name isn't really fair. Especially to members that have been here a long time and have a lot of posts.

Say that to Alyssa...If she had stayed at one name, she'd be PC's top poster by now. Posts are superficial. Heck, about a year ago, every single member was forced to rejoin with no posts due to a database reset...but no one camplained about it back then...
 
Not to mention there are only 2 active people that can do it.

And they have enough to do already.

Well yea Abby and I can do it but so can S-Mods.

But having tons of people changing their names would be hard on the staff. And would mix up things too "You was ... ? I didn't know that". When <<NICK>> changed his name members was going "Where is Flaming Torchic? Why was he de-Modded. And why is this <<NICK>> member made a Moderator so fast?" it took time for them to find out he was the same member.
 
Which is why I don't approve of anyone (and most especially staff) changing their usernames. =\ It's too hard on other members to figure out who you are all over again.

tmbjr - Actually, tons of people complained and wanted their post counts reinstated. XD;; They all shut up eventually when they realized it wasn't going to be done.
 
Oh, I didn't know that S-Mods had that power...
 
I think, if you wanna change your name you should do it only once.
If someone changes his name a lot, people will be very confused. Its hard to remember who was who etc. I know that because on SPP I have had a lot of names also. Also, if someone wanna change a name, he should think about it 10 times and pick a really good name.
 
It seems that 95% of people around here who ask for their names to be changed have a very small number of posts, so it's useless for newbs with ten posts to get a name change. If they love their handul of posts that much, they'll either have to stick with their name or not post anymore. If everyone was entitled to name changes, it would cause undue strain on those who have the power to do so. It's good advice to actually put thought into one's name before making it. It took me an hour to think of Chairman Kaga, actually.
 
The thing with just changing it though is people feel no need to consider their new name since they don't lose anything. So members could shift their name around every day. This would cause mass confusion in threads. "Who's this Kairi they quoted? I only see Abby/Celes/whateverhernameisnow. By making people go through the things you listed in the first post, it helps people pick names they stick with.
 
Well!!!And you think the Admins have no job!!!LOL!They dont come out to all threads that fast and spend most of the time they are online on the Admin CP!!And well all the jobs will be left to Andy and Abby!!!LOL!

Uh anyways, isn't there some way to put it in the User CP, changing your name? I saw it on the SSUK forums...

I never said that. I used to have my own forum so I was an admin there and I'm a supermod at another forum so I know what they do.

If it's hard to remember who a person is when they change their name, they can put something like "Used to be *oldname*." in their sig.
