As a method of getting more activity/posting in the forums, I find a contest like that absolutely unnecessary, honestly. Cafe is actually the most active thread (recently anyway) in regards to posting, a couple hundred above the runner up. This place definitely doesn't need a hike in activity, as it gets more than enough of that. Your idea simply as a contest doesn't really appeal to me either, honestly, and that's for similar reasons I stated before. I don't like the whole premise of a contest in Cafe to be based on "posting", because we already get more than enough of it, and any more will run the creative buzz in posts thin, and inadvertently cause more spammy posting to occur, especially in a hecka active place like this. Perhaps I'm overthinking it, but I stand by "posting" as the premise of a thread here in Cafe being a terrible idea.Well in my idea/s (which don't happen to be that good often) would be a post challenge of the person with the most posts that actually count in any given day, not an actually award but to increase activity with newer/older threads and newer/older members. Or something like the person who cam create a successful thread that actually runs out of space (not so good but that's just whar comes to mind)
If I'm completely honest, I don't really see any sort of contest working here. Cafe's meant to be a place to socialize about things irrelevant, things that are obscure and random. A contest would have to mirror the forum in some way, and aside from completely technical things, such as amount of posts or amount of threads, you can't really base anything off conversation. Well, perhaps not nothing, but not much. The only thing I can think of that we could perhaps work into a contest somehow would be something utilizing voice chats. There was also the idea of "PC's Got Talent", which would probably have been held in Cafe (although it'd make more sense to be held in Community announcements; it won't/wouldn't because PCGT is a brand new idea, which could very easily flop). Reason it'd be held here is cause it's a mix of almost every thing existent elsewhere in the forum (Writing, art, etc). Since it's so broad, it would fit here, but even then, I don't like it. Feel free to pitch contest ideas if you guys have, but I don't know if you'll be able to come up with anything that could be hosted here in Cafe.
And this isn't something I feel should be changed, but one thing I am liking this part of the forum for much more is the fact that people are getting crafty with names for their threads. "NINJA STAR CHIPS" instead of "Doritos", "The early bird gets the worm" instead of "How late do you sleep", and other thread titles like that. I like getting original with that. xP
Not a fan of how people get overly creative with thread titles to where I actually go to the thread and it's not what the title made it out to be. That's the only thing that bothers me. I mean, it's great to be creative with thread titles and all, but not to where it misleads people into thinking the thread is a completely different subject than what it really is.
Everlark nailed it on the head, really. People actually ARE creative with thread titles, often to the point where people will have to click on the thread and actually see what the hell the thread's supposed to be about. I can see why it's frustrating, and in many ways a turn off, but it isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just that when people get a little too creative, their title tends to deviate a lot further from the topic than it's supposed to. The Doritos thread is an example of that. Ninja star chips itself has almost nothing to do with Doritos itself, at face value (unless there's a commercial or something that I missed, I dunno). The action of going ahead and clicking on the thread and finding out what the thread's about, while relatively little in work, can come off as extremely annoying. I'm not saying don't be creative, but be creative in reason. :D
