Imagine a new type...

I just wanted a thread where we could let lose and come up with new Pokémon ideas without worrying about others shooting down our whims or them being practical or something Game Freak would actually make. Just for fun, you know? This doesn't require anything but your imagination. Where not even the sky is the limit! (Because outer space Pokémon are cool, right?)

(I didn't feel this thread fits a certain category, but, let me know if this needs to be moved or if it already exists)

I know it sounds like I'm hopping on a band wagon, but I like the idea of Light Types, in my own Pokémon world. They would be more similar to Electric or Ghost than Fairy. They will have angelic forms and will be equally matched to Dark. (Each being super effective against the other).

My region will probably have a large mountain range. A lot of Pokémon will have thick fur due to the generally cool climate. The Professor is a lady. There will be crazy type combos like Fairy/Dragon.

The villains are gifted at communicating with Pokémon and teach certain ones bad lessons, like that they're better than others of their kind and to attack for no reason.

And then there will be a character who seems evil but later turns and fights the villains like a boss and then becomes the main character's friend.

IMO there's already too many types. I did have an idea a few months back I thought would be cool and that is to make dual-type attacks instead of more Pokémon types. I'm not sure if that's ever been brought up anywhere before.

Just one example off the top of my head...

Icy Wind or Blizzard would make good candidates for dual-type attacks. They could be Ice and Flying type attacks.

Edit: Blaze Kick could also be made into a Fire and Fighting type attack. There's certain attacks that already sound like dual-type attacks, ya know?

light type for me is too close to fairy type to now envision it as a new type. I kinda see fairy as being a light type technically otherwise I'd be for a light type too! Not shooting down your idea at all that was just always my go to new type before fairy came out.

it's hard for me to imagine any new types unless they were based on aliens... i'm not very creative :(

As for a region I'd love to see a mainly cold region and I mean an actual cold region not sinnoh cold. Lots of snow. A lot of ice and ghost types around. Probably dragon and fairy types to add the the snowy mountain ?mythicalness? of it.

I think it would be fun to step away from the evil team/getting the legendary plot and have a story with a central plot, but also lots of side quests that tie in at the end. More of a figuring out a mystery/mythical plot.

As for the starter Pokemon I picture the water type being based off an animal that lives in the arctic/cold regions. Either an aquatic mammal or sea creature. A narwhal would be cool!! The fire type would be a very furry mammal or in keeping with the mythical theme some kind of fire/fairy that lives in cold regions. The grass type could be based off a fern flower which is supposed to be a magical flower in mythology. There are few ferns that grow in colder regions, but they're there!

Wyvern - an offshoot of Dragon, specifically focusing toward lighter weight, aerodynamic species.
Shadow - a full typing rather than the mock type from the original GCN games, murky creatures akin to Giratina's Torn World in nature, a counterpart to Light, which is more mythical in nature

My region is divided, literally, into eastern, center, western, and southern pieces from the in-fighting amongst the legendaries. It has mountainous peaks, several lakes, rolling plains, and intricate political relations, such as a duel professorship depending on the side of the region traversed.

Because of those divisions there are not eight gyms but six, of which one is required to obtain the two from their native side and at least one from the other continental side plus the island on which the League is situated.

The antagonists are a fanatical Cult, working toward the destruction of the modern day region at the hands of slumbering kami scattered far and wide.
The starters would be a variation on the tried and true Grass/Water/Fire typing. Bug/Steel, Ice/Fighting, and Dragon/Rock, respectively.

I'd personally rather have Fairy be renamed to Light, as others have mentioned, and leave it to that.

Not to mention that would mean that Xerneas/Yveltal's pairing would make more sense.

Like I said, though, this thread is more for speculation, not everything mentioned has to be actually plausible. And depsite the title, it doesn't have to be a type. Anything goes, really.

Maybe something like a plasma type. Its super effective on every...more abstract types (dark, ghost, fairy, psychic), but weak to the elements (electric, fire, water, grass). Its more alien than any other type and from outer space or something.

Beast type. Certain normal types like Ursaring and Tauros would apply.

Weak to Fire, Steel, and Poison
    Resists Fighting, Ice, Fairy
    Supereffective to Psychic, Dark, Normal
    Resisted by Steel, Fire, Ice

I actually did this a LONG while back, even designed a few Pokemon for each (though I'd rather redraw them instead of show the old 'not so proud of' versions.) The two were Cosmic and Bio.

Cosmic, or Celestial, is exactly what it sounds like. Anything to do with space and the cosmos. This is already covered a bit with Psychic-type, but that never felt like it fit for me. A few already existent Mons would get a type retcon for Cosmic, including Deoxys (Psychic/Cosmic), Palkia (Dragon/Cosmic), and Arceus (Cosmic pure.) I get this would throw some of their balances or entire sets a bit, but you get the idea at least. It would be resistant to Ice-types, resisted by Bug and Steel types, and it would be weak to itself. That's all I got so far with type effectiveness.

Bio, on the other hand, is sort of hard to explain... essentially think things like Reuniclus (who becomes Psychic/Bio), Muk (Poison/Bio), Manaphy (Water/Bio), and so on. It would be weak to Ice and Electric, but resist Fighting and have an immunity to Fire. I feel like it should be associated with Water, I'm just not quite sure how yet.
