From what I know, the latest series (Black and White / Best Wishes) is meant to progress faster. From what I know, it certainly seems to be to start with - the fourth episode will feature a gym battle, and at the current time in Japan Ash has 7, yes 7, not some pointless-release replacement pokémon, on his team.

However, do you guys honestly think it is / will be going faster than previous series? And do you think the new series will lack anything that the originals had?

One thing it should lack that I'm personally happy about is that there'll be no non-Unova region pokémon, meaning that we should have less fillers as there should be no episodes which focus on non-Unova pokémon (i.e. Pikachu getting adopted for a day, a la Sinnoh).

Ya it is already going faster. But it will proabably last a while. With him already going to the 3rd Gym,I'd say yes. I think all the episodes are leading up to the last few episodes though. To me it seems everything is leading in the same direction. With some background info on characters.

Jap season is where he is going to 3rd gym. But it is a long walk so it will prob be 4 or 5 episodes from the last gym. Maybe more.

Episode Four focuses on Tepig, it is Episode Five and Six that the gym battle is featured. And yes up too this point Ash has seven pokemon.

Yes this one is going by a lot faster then the previous series. The Third Gym gym battle took place Episode 68 whereas in this series Ash is supposed to battle Arti in Episode 25 way ahead of when he battled Maylene for his third badge. I don't know how this series will lack anything the originals did, I know it is lacking contests which is perfectly fine with me.

It seems like it may very well lack former pokemon depending on how much Ash captures. And since it is a new region away from the others the likely hood that we will encounter previous pokemon is lesser then the rest of the previous series.

I just don't know why he's caught so much already T_T greedy guy. Did he really need all the starters? Urm yeah I'm very impressed. I like Iris. It really is fast paced but I know it's leading to a big gymless arc that'll be awesome! Maybe the Team Rocket but I doubt that that's an arc.

There's already going to be an gym leader episode soon? Wow, then that means the series is fast-paced, really fast-paced. I guess the whole "no non-Unova Pokemon" thing does make the series a lot faster than normal, unlike Hoenn or Sinnoh.

I'm not entirely sure on the entire BW series being shorter or faster-paced. The beginning sure indicates this but I mean in Japan he's only battled 2 gym leaders and that is still way early in the scheme of things. I think that it will slow down a little later on, (who knows if there's time maybe Ash will win the Unova League and face the Elite 4 this time ;))

I do like that this is drastically faster than Sinnoh because let's face it: Sinnoh was 3-4 years too long. I could barely stand it to the point where I watched only the necessary episodes where something major happened or ones that I really want to see).

But that aside, I REALLY like this new Gen and series. Has a complete restart to the point where it's refreshing after the 5-year saga of Sinnoh.

I've only watched three episodes of the dub but I've got to say I'm quietly confident this will be an excellent region. I've been impressed.

Firstly, it's a lot more funnier to see Ash being the noob rather then Dawn/May because he plays it a lot more better. He's doesn't conform to his ignorance the way those two did; instead he perceieves him to be right at all times and combines that with unconditional desire to be the best. We haven't seen Ash act like that since the first season. He's a lot more short tempered as well and the mistakes he makes are hilarious. I know it shouldn't work in terms of the plot, but I much prefer in this way.

Then the relationship between Ash and Iris so far seems to be something that has a lot of potential. Both are smug and self-centered to an extend which is going to lead to more conflict.

And Team Rocket being different now has added another dimension to show. They are actually slightly unpredictable now!

EDIT - Also said this in another thread but from I've read up there are not going to be any more Pokemon Contests, at least not in the anime as none of the main three are co-ordinators. Something worth celebrating; I absolutely despised the Pokemon contests episodes in the past two regions. Sooooo boring.
