IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
a positively electrifying pokémon journey
![[PokeCommunity.com] In a League of their own [OOC/SU] [PokeCommunity.com] In a League of their own [OOC/SU]](https://i.imgur.com/xoA8n87.gif)
HOENN IS A REGION IN CHAOS
After the raging storm caused by the vicious struggle between the Sea Basin pokémon, Kyogre, and the Continent pokémon, Groudon ended, quelled by Rayquaza, the Sky High pokémon, Hoenn was left in ruins: Littleroot was levelled, Oldale was obliterated, Petalburg was in pieces, and so much more. With the gyms smashed (they had been targeted by the team Aqua and Magma grunts, in order to prevent the Leaders and their trainers from meddling with their plans), the Pokémon League could no longer function in the Hoenn region. Indeed, even the starter pokémon were withheld for beginning trainers.
Indeed, for more than ten years, the Hoenn region ceased to be a viable place for pokémon training - almost no new trainers came in, and almost all of the existing ones went elsewhere (those who weren't helping with the rebuilding of the region, anyway). indeed, the wild places of the region, once kept in order by roaming trainers, became wild and untamed.
Even after the rebuilding - even after new gyms were built, and stocked with leaders and trainers, even after the towns were revitalised, the Hoenn region had trouble attracting the attentions of trainers again: it had been a long time since anybody had been there for any kind of pokémon battling purposes. Not many people returned, even after the reinstatement of the Pokémon League.
So, with the entire region suffering with the lack of trainers (the pokémon battling scene, after all, had been one of its biggest money-gathering ventures), a new model for the league was proposed, by one Arcturius Wynter, a wealthy businessman, who just so happened to be the eighth Gym Leader of Hoenn.
His business model was... Different, that was sure - Instead of just any trainers showing up to challenge the league, a batch of trainers was found, and they'd be accompanied in a televised journey, to collect all of the badges of Hoenn.
Of course, the battles were somewhat spiced up for the audience - Shock collars and special rules certainly made sure of that.
THE CENTER OF A WORLDWIDE PLOT
Now, where does this leave you? Well, you are a trainer, perhaps hailing from Hoenn, or perhaps someplace else - You entered a lottery drawing, or won some kind of competition, or you volunteered, and received a letter informing you of your acceptance into the new Hoenn League. Said letter contained very few details, but did give you a date and a time - It provided no information on what that entailed: simply a stock congratulations, a date, and a time.
And when that time rolled around? They took you from wherever you were, and got you properly acquainted with both the other trainers, your own personal set of shock collars and bracers, and the vague, but terrifying punishments that await, should you lose in this competition.
The risks of the game are great, that much is certain, but the rewards? Well, rumours have it that if you win all eight Hoenn League badges, you're granted audience with a mythical pokémon...
AND THE BACKDROP FOR A WONDERFUL ADVENTURE
So, this is one of those journey roleplay things - the basic plot is that you'll travel through Hoenn, and try to defeat all eight gym leaders. Of course, this isn't just any run-of-the-mill journey RP - in this one, your characters have all been kidnapped, collared, and forced to participate in a reality TV show documenting their journey - and if they lose a battle, a grisly death awaits.
But let's not get bogged down in all the doom and gloom! The good news is that if you can survive all the way to the end, you'll be awarded a wonderful prize! Some people even say that you'll get to see, and even try to catch, a mythical pokémon!
The way who lives and who dies is quite simple: it's done via a point system - at the start of each Gym, you get rolled up a base digit (kept secret, of course), and everyone can vote (publicly) to add 1 point from another player, and subtract 1 point from another player, although you cannot vote for yourself. Additional points are awarded for pokémon defeated in battle, and such other things. The character with the lowest point total after the Gym Leader is defeated is dragged off to be executed.
At the end of the thread, the executions will be posted up for everybody to see.
After the Gym is defeated, everybody who survived will be sent off to the next area, to prepare for the next Gym. You can't backtrack to areas that you've already been to after defeating that area's gym. In addition, when there is a choice of where to go, everybody must agree on doing one thing: the camera crew can't film in two places at once, after all (and we're too cheap to hire more camera crews).
There are no real restrictions on characters, but you should try to appreciate what you're getting them into.
In addition, you should note that IC Actions = IC Consequences, including death outside of gym challenges. I won't stop your characters from trying to escape their situation, or challenge the system, but I'm not going to take it easy on them, either.
A FEW FORMALITIES
- All PC rules and guidelines apply
- Your characters are likely to die in this roleplay - seven out of eight of them will, in fact. If and when this occurs, you may either bow out gracefully, or take on a minor character (a trainer, shop-owner, etc) - I'd like to know what you want to do, though, so shoot me a message if you want to continue after your character is out of the runnings.
- If it isn't in your inventory, you don't have it.
- You can have up to three pokémon to start - you may have any (not fully evolved) pokémon you like, except legendaries.
- Pokemon have access to any move they can learn (except by TM/HM). However, you can only use four moves per Gym. You may change one move after each Gym.
- Pokemon have access to all abilities, hidden or otherwise, that their species has access to. You may activate one ability per battle.
- Pokémon are not defeated when they faint - Pokémon are defeated when they die.
- This roleplay is rated M (Violence, Gore, etc)
