    Have you ever named your rival after a friend of yours, or someone you know in real life? A friend of mine named his rival in Black 2 after me.... and vice versa
     
    Of course! I've only named my rival something random once or twice (if at all)

    Mostly because when I play Pokemon, I usually do it with a friend so we name our rivals after each other!

    But it is hard to do when I only have a male rival and I'm playing with a girl =\

    I also name a lot of my Pokemon after my friends, cuz I'm just that cool 8D
     
    Always have! Since I have more guy friends, I end up naming the rival after a friend of mines. xD I'm playing Soulsilver for a challenge and I named my rival Rudy, after my friend from English class. xD He knows about it, yes...haha
     
    White 2 was the first game I did it in, I named the rival the name of my best friend expecting him to be a douche. But it turns out that the rival is nice and isn't like my IRL friend at all :P
     
    Back in one of my playthroughs of Pearl, I did name my rival Matthew after a friend I had at school.

    However I don't do it anymore. In every game since, I always used the rival's default name.
     
    I don't name the in-game characters after people I know (excluding myself) because I feel it might make the game a bit awkward for me, since there isn't anyone I dislike enough to consider them a "rival." I do know numerous people who do, however, and it can make for some amusing matches!
     
    I sometimes name the rival after my brother. But lately I just stick with the default names so I can remember what people are referring to when talking about fan theories or other nonsense.
