Is Lillie a disappointment?

It's hard to separate the two when not only does Alex keep on acting as though May is superior to Lillie, but also acts as though one of the reasons he hates Lillie is because she's skittish around Pokemon and isn't a real trainer, even when:

1., Lillie actually HAS an excuse for her fear of Pokemon due to PTSD, unlike May, who just hated them,

2., Lillie actually became a trainer AFTER putting aside her fear (and like I said many times earlier, May, even if she started liking Pokemon before Ash got the first badge, still hated Pokemon at the start of the journey, which is flat-out unacceptable since it spits on the entire premise of a Pokemon trainer. If I were in her shoes and I hated Pokemon, I don't CARE if it means a journey or not, I'd NEVER sign up to become a Pokemon trainer. And besides, she literally spent ten years of her life being the daughter of a Gym Leader, meaning she'd inevitably be exposed to Pokemon constantly, why should she hate them? At least with Lillie, there's the fact that she had been experimented upon by the Aether Foundation, and especially by her mom, that acted as a genuine reason for her being deeply afraid of Pokemon to such an extent that she initially couldn't bring herself to touch them.), and

3., regarding her not being a "real" trainer, Ash ultimately failed to qualify as a "real" trainer in this series by that same token considering that, until Episode 43, he basically just acted like a typical student instead of the trainer he was in prior series, and literally can't seem to be focused regarding Island trials depsite them being the closest the series has to gyms, even if he DID ultimately clear two trials. Just ask Hikamaru if you don't believe me regarding Ash, she makes it very clear that even BW Ash was a lot more motivated than SM Ash right now (and she HATES BW Ash, so that should tell you something).

So yeah, all I'm doing is responding to Alex's bashing against Lillie, even though she's done everything in this series to prove she ISN'T a waste. And BTW, just so we're clear, I'd STILL say May is a disappointment even if I DIDN'T hate her, because she was mishandled every time. I'd go into more detail, but like you said, this isn't the place for it.

We gave you plenty of evidence from the show directly proving it is actual fact and not mere opinion. I mean, what, are you going to next claim that not being able to sprout wings and fly is "my opinion" as well and then jump off a building? Besides, mathematics deals strictly with facts, NOT opinions.

Either way, to get the thread right back on track, Lillie definitely isn't a disappointment at all, especially not during the Aether Foundation arc, or heck, even before then. Even if I utterly hated her guts, I'd STILL say she isn't a disappointment at all, albeit in a grudging manner.

Look, if you like Lillie then that is fine. If you dislike certain other companions of the past then that is your choice. I can respect that.

But i always have my preferences to companions and Lillie does not cut it for me. Ash is a trainer. He is handling Alola differently because Alola is different. This is my opinion though. Agree to disagree as long as there is mutual respect.

To everyone on the thread: For the record, i do respect other users on the forums even if they don't see that. I do state my opinions as opinions. I appreciate it if the talking behind my back stops. Does not feel good to be discussed behind my back.

Anyway, i just can't like Lillie. Sorry but that is how i feel.

Lillie had a good reason for having fear of Pokemon, because she was attack by one but she finally gotten over it.

Lillie was never a disappointment, she is has been getting good character development since the SM series started.

May is a disappointment because her character was handled poorly in the anime and she hated Pokemon from the very start, she had no good reason to even become a Pokemon trainer.

If you don't like Lillie then you don't have to watch the anime.

For the first +40 episodes there was little development on Lillie and she even felt like a background character but as of now she became the center of this current arc and his development has been handled well in my opinion.

Was or is she a disappointment? No, absolutely no but there is a fact and she was being poorly handled for many episodes. At this current arc she became a central character and she's blooming and her development is alright, I like it. I hope she doesn't vanish into background for future episodes. She definitely has the potential to be one of the best well-written characters.

I disagree with your opinion especially with May but that is off topic. Lillie has no good reason to being afraid and is a liability to your show.

Lillie has been constant background character that contributes nothing. But all of this is my opinion.

Lillie has been getting great character development, now with the current arc she is developing perfectly well.

Yes people with awesome minds think alike indeed!
She just seemed to blend in with the rest of the gang initially totally like a side-supporting character but have totally stood out more and more for me, especially ever since Nebby came into play. I'm so happy with her improvement, the moment she hugged Silvally made me cried like a 5 years old, and I found the reaction of her to everyone's Pokemon in the next adorable and so sweet and touching-- Now that is one good character's development.

I love Lillie. At first she kind of annoyed me with her being afraid of pokémom and not even knowing why, but as the show went on, she was just really adorable, with her hugging all the pokémon and her helping her brother defeat totem Kommo-o.
 
I'm kind of the same as L'Belle. At first I was a bit disappointed with how she was super weak and scaredy cat, while her game version developed into a strong willed young lady. But quickly enough, anime Lillie developed as well. I still haven't seen much, but hearing about the characters in discussions here actually makes me want to pick the show up again!

That's actually how I felt about the sun and moon anime at first actually. I hated the art-style, the premise, it all looked so bad. The artstyle in the Black and White and X and Y anime was great, and then this silly childish art-style comes around. It has grown on me. The story has also taken a more serious turn, which I appreciate.

Eh, I had some idea that her being terrified of Pokémon had to do with Lusamine due to researching how the game was like, so I wasn't particularly miffed at Lillie being scared.

I do agree with you guys that the premise especially was bad (I didn't like the art change either, but I could at least tolerate it if they at LEAST had Ash continue with his goal, which they didn't even do until... what, Episode 43 when they announced there will be a league after all?).

EDIT: Actually, I think Gladion should be unblocked from the topic. At least he can be trusted to actually TALK about Lillie and be on topic.
