Of course that villain was memorable. All he's like is "OM NOM NOM GONNA CHEW ON YER HOUSE NAO KAY?"
Jack O'Neill said:VA standards have generally remained high even with the mid-00s boom for the most part. Limited to just shows that have aired on Adult Swim, both Code Geass and Death Note had dubs that were on par with those three examples. As for stuff that's remained exclusively on DVD so far, Black Lagoon is the very first title to come to mind. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya also had a great dub, especially considering the high expectations for a series of such considerable stature being brought Stateside. Likewise with Gurren Lagann, despite what some people may think about Kamina's voice; hell, I'm probably one of the few who thinks that Kyle Hebert is easily just as hot-blooded as Katsuyuki Konishi.
Johnny Yong Bosch as Lelouch steadily got better with time; by the end of the first season, his performance was leaps and bounds beyond anything Jun Fukuyama could ever accomplish. While he did slip considerably at the very start of R2, he was back to his usual self in no time. Hell, Goro Taniguchi himself personally helped select JYB to play Lelouch in the English dub, or so I've heard. I'd have to agree with his judgment, because there really isn't anybody else who can play Lelouch. Maybe Brad Swaile could have been up to the task, but he works in British Columbia, and seeing as he's Light Yagami, it would have been seen as typecasting. As for anybody based in Texas or New York, forget it.I watched all of Death Note on [as] and felt it was more than adequate but didn't last more than a couple of episodes into Code Geass. JYB as Lelouch just didn't work for me, although not having a broad knowledge of english VAs, I couldn't immediately mention someone who I would have preferred in his stead.
Michael McConnohie isn't merely like the American Norio Wakamoto, he IS the American Norio Wakamoto. His performance as Emperor Charles in Code Geass was truly glorious. All dub voice actors fail in comparison to the mighty Michael McConnohie though, he's like the American Wakamoto.
Johnny Young Bosch is playing Yang in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.
In related news, Krieg was hilarious in how bland he was. However, Gin was a pretty cool guy. He was the forefront to other, totally not evil villains. I could never bring myself to hateSpoiler:Aokiji, Kizaru or Sengoku as people. They were good people, they were just Marines. And Marines are split between the cool dudes that just want to uphold peace and the douche bags that work for bigger douche bags in the form of the World Government.
I tried that show... but I just couldn't handle it. lolI started watching, "Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu" again. It's so classic, I don't even-
Spoiler:I always saw Kizaru as Chaotic Neutral. He isn't Lawful Evil like Lucci or Akainu or even Neutral Evil like Pre-Marineford Blackbeard. He isn't evil, he's just chaotic. o3o
It's not the show, it's the company. I'm not really too fond of Funimation. Should have made that clearer. They could have picked much worse than S;G, I mean didn't they announce Panty and Stocking not long ago?
Technically, Black Lagoon, Haibane Renmei, Samurai Champloo, and Serial Experiments Lain all used to belong to Geneon. However, its American branch went under quite a while back, and it was forced to sell the distribution rights of those series to Funimation. You've probably seen more Funi dubs than me but from what I've seen they'remore than acceptable. Black Lagoon, Baccano!,Haibane Renmei, Champloo, Lain and by the looks of things Phantom are all excellent, their only terrible one was that of Pretty Cure, I guess that is only a small sample but yeah, they're ok imo.
