James Cameron's "Avatar"

Amazing and true :3 I felt like I was in another world and I loved it when Jake kissedv the Navi princess in his Avatar form, the dragons were otherworldly and I loved the bond with the creature, the concept of disability being a strength and the two conflicts between the traditional Alien world and the human world. I like the catlike Avatars and their glowing gold eyes, that could be just the furry in me though.

It had too much man vs nature and environmental message though, that was the only downside. The violence also put me off, it was war, but a bit disturbing to see the effect it had on the Navi. I don't blame Jack for going off with the Navi, at least it was better than his normal life.

Being disabled myself, this movie holds a certain fascination for me

The concept of Avatar is very original that his mind is transferred to another body, but if the Avatar dies while Jack's soul/mind is in the body, will he die too? Disturbing implications... :3

I give it 7/10 for effort though

I absolutely loved it, beautifully done. Sure, some things were a bit predictable, but it was one of the best movies I've ever seen.

I really want to go see it in imax. @_@

Spoiler:

The plot is extremely similar to the sci-fi story 'Call me Joe'. Not that it's a bad thing necessarily.

I have going to see that movie in about 2 days:)

I hope you're kidding. Are you seriously suggesting people watch this movie in such an outdated format?

What I'm saying is, if any of you are too young to watch such intensity, then you can just wait for it to be released for home, such as DVD or something.

I couldn't watch it.(My parents made me watch Princess and the Frog instead!:P)But I hope too see it soon.

I just watched that today with my siblings! It's a very decent story. I also welcome the traditional animation a whole lot.
Perhaps we should chat about this in another thread though.

The movies awesome. I loved everything, cept the plot could've been a bit better, but I'm not comlaining. I loved it. :) :P

If you get the chance to, then you should definitely go watch the movie again in imax. I saw it only a couple days after Christmas in imax 3D and I have to admit it was well worth about three hours of my day. The basic concept of the movie played along really well, with a few predictable scenes like said, but still enjoyable.

If one doesn't get a chance to see it in theaters, then if they have to buy it, buy it for Blue-ray. Enough said. A regular DVD would bring down the quality of the movie and yes they'll still get to see it, but if you really want to enjoy it then go all out for it.

I saw it last Friday, it was very good. Awesome graphics and a pretty good story line. It was worth seeing.

Great Movie (:

I watched it Friday. It was really good. But, there were some really predictable scenes. As usual, my favorite people died :(. They always do...

It's true, the plot outline is very ordinary, but maybe some people like it that way...I do. Also, it's true that there are a few scenes that are predictable, but at the same time, there are various scenes which are unpredictable.
[NOTE: This contains spoilers about the movie. I strongly suggest you don't look at this unless you have seen the film already!]
Spoiler:

The effects, like I've said before, are simply fantastic. Especially the forests, the mountains, and the vast beauty of the Giant Hometree. They really paid off for Cameron.
In fact, Avatar is now the second highest worldwide grossing film yet. And it may be possible that it will beat Titanic's famous number one record.

Theater nearest me is sold out of tickets until Jan. 18th for the IMAX (both screens, 200+ seats each).
Also sold out of the 3D presentation (one screen, 240 seats) until the 22nd. Mister manager guy was making sold out announcements when I went for a ticket to a show. This 'was' as of Friday recent this post.

And tickets for this theater are $13.50 each for adult. $5.00-6.00 for large size munchies.

I don't know about the other local theaters sale status.

Anyone play the video game AND see the movie? I will NOT be playin the game.

I've tried the demo of the DS version of Avatar: The Game (downloaded from the Nintendo Channel on the Wii). It's gameplay is okay... I guess. The story is pretty decent, and the graphics are a bit cheap, yet this is the DS we're talking about. One big thing I've noticed is that even though the gameplay is fine, it is far too similar to another game called Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.
Overall, the game is...fine...but it's not necessarily worth buying, unless it's price is very low.

I plan to buy the iPhone/iPod Touch Avatar game for my iPod Touch sometime soon. From what I hear, it has impressive graphics, neat gameplay, and a new story. The only drawbacks are camera controls and the need for more levels. It's price is pretty good now, $6.99. It is, and has been for a long while, one of the top 25 grossing apps in the app store.

Me and my dad were supposed to go but when we got there they were sold out :(
...Yikes.....I hope you weren't too disappointed. Lets just hope for the best.
Ive got the game on 360 tho, thats pretty good...
The graphics must be good, that's for sure. I wonder what it's like on the Playstation 3, the extreme hardware with the best graphics ever. I'll look up a video of it now.

You know, to tell the truth, before I watched Avatar, I never thought of it as such a big thing. Whenever I saw a trailer for it, I would just think of it as another science fiction film, just like any other. But now, I think it's one of the greatest films ever. Because it's full of intense action, I thought I wasn't going to enjoy that much, for I'm not necessarily a fan of extreme violence. Disregarding that, however, it's one of my personal favorites.

It was worth watching that movie, even though it was over two and a half hours long. I loved every bit of it, and there was nothing I found wrong with it. Even though it was long, I didn't really notice the time it took.

This, overall, was an amazing movie. Like a lot of people said, the story could've been better, less predictable and cheesy, but it's still really enjoyable. Well, mostly because of the graphics and the characters. Anyway, saw it in 3D and it was really worth it, the quality is awesome.

By the way, am I the only one who thought of Starcraft while watching this?

I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D. I went in knowing...pretty much nothing. All I had going was buzz. Hearing that people who saw it felt the same way they felt seeing the original Star Wars back in '77 or The Lord of the Rings in 2001. Those movies changed filmmaking.

This...I dunno.

I wasn't blown away. It was a good one time popcorn movie. Kinda like Peter Jackson's King Kong. I don't really want to see it again. Ever. Outside of the theatre atmosphere... it'd be a rental for me. Not worth a purchase.

It was big in almost every aspect. It looked great (I guess. It was seamless, yes. It looked real. But was I blown away like the first time I saw say...Jurassic Park? No). But I was bored. I didn't care about the characters. I wasn't connected to anything. I just didn't care about what was going on at all.

I guess it's just not your movie. I like plenty of shows and movies that are fun, adventurous, funny, or has an enjoyable story. I don't exactly go for R-Rated movies though, and probably never will.

Not me (although I'm kind of looking forward to Starcraft II), it reminded me of many other things.

Such as the Edanna Age from Myst III: Exile,

Or the World Tree from Warcraft,

Unless they seriously did steal their ideas, there really isn't anything wrong with that. So I didn't mind much. I try to think optimistically. Try to think of the good things from a movie or show. Don't be too critical, otherwise, you won't truly enjoy it.
Oh, and I have noticed how long it was, but that's a good thing for a movie like this one.
