Japanese Names to English Names

    Do you ever get confused when the person is introduced in the Dub and your not particularly following it at the time and people start using that name in topics and your like who is that?

    Or inversely for the Dub fans do you ever get confused when a person keeps saying Dento or Shooti and you are like who is that? Or they keep using Japanese pokemon names even after they have long been introduced in English.

    I know I was reading topics and thinking who the heck is Stephan then I looked and it was Kenyan. And also after today episode aired I was like Georgia who is this now she must be Langley. Also when people use the Japanese names I am like "I used to remember what they were now I just don't remember the English names".
     
    Well, I can see how that happens, but I actually try my best to keep up with japanese and dub episodes every week. There are those times when I'll wait and watch a dub episode a few days late and someone mentions a name, but other than that - I try my best to keep up to date.~
     
    I keep forgetting what Cabernet's English name is, and it'll take a while for Georgia to register as Langley in my brain D:

    There are some characters I just can't use English names for... Mijumaru, for example, as well as Dent. I only watch the original but try my best to use the English names for the sake of people being able to understand. Some things just can't work with me though; I just can't get myself to say Oshawott since it feels so... foreign and awkward to me. I'm very used to Mijumaru and it'll stay that way, as will Kibago.

    The problem is, it just comes off looking strange if I end up typing half of the names in English and half in Japanese, but I do try to sway myself to one side. But even so, it feels difficult. I feel like if I type every single name in Japanese I'll look "elitist" while if I type them all in English, I'll feel awkward since I just can't use English names for some characters because it feels like it's a separate character I'm talking about altogether.

    I quit the dub ages ago so it'd be easier to use Japanese names to reflect that.

    Yeah, it's to the point that there are actually some Pokemon's names I don't know the English version of (such as Maggyo) because I haven't played the games recently or watched the dub recently.
     
    It does sometimes get confusing when people use the Japanese names for characters rather than the dubbed names, but am starting to learn them! To be honest, the Japanese names are usually better. Hikari is a great name whereas Dawn is... Meh. The same applies to wuite a few characters, but I can never imagine Ash with another name after everything he's been through under that name.
     
    I'm good at adapting from the Japanese names to the English ones. When I see a new dub name for a character, I look that name up on Bulbapedia.

    I don't think it's too stranger, I've seen plenty of people still call Cilan Dent and Trip Shooti. And I really wouldn't see it as elitist but more as a personal preference or what you are used to. But if you use Japanese terms on a Dub topic I'd be a little wary of that.

    It's kind of the opposite for me, there are many pokemon i absolutely forgot their Japanese names. And if you have a hard time remembering Maggyo name look at the new style Stunfisk xD.

    Not really... People still refer to Ash as Satoshi after the Dub has been around for 13 years. I still see people calling Dawn Hikari and Shinji.
     
    I first get into Japanese, tune out for a while, then get interested into the other game, if there is a new one. (in the generation.) :(
     
    I can't stomach watching subtitled stuff, so I only know the English names. I know a few Japanese ones, but that's only from watching commentaries on Japanese BW gameplay on Youtube before the English names were released.
