Just came up with a little fun theory about Alola being Kanto's future, or aka Alola is Kanto. (DISCLAIMER: I'm not 100% caught up with all the nitty-gritty SM news & I'm aware that Alola is based off of Hawaii but remember, this is just a fun lil theory ;))

So remember Pangea, the ultimate continent consisting of all the continents put together, from we were young children? Kanto is "Pangea" while Alola is the "present time". It would make sense considering all of the Alola forms released so far are native to Kanto.

As for Samson Oak being related to Professor Oak is something right? (Even though he's his cousin, its still something)

Also you can think of the Aether Foundation was created to stop companies abusing Pokémon like Team Rocket and atm they're against Team Skull (+ You could say Team Skull was possibly inspired by Team Rocket by committing crimes for their own pleasure, while Team Rocket does crimes for profit. + Team Skull's Pokémon is similar to Team Rocket's.) Plus, Gladion, one of the admins of Team Skull, obtains a Type: Null. Type: Null is called "the Synthetic Pokémon" and the Official Pokémon site quotes:
The shapes of its front and hind legs are clearly different. The reason is that Type: Null was constructed to synthesize the strengths of various Pokémon, enabling it to adapt to any situation. The mask fitted to Type: Null's head is a piece of equipment designed to control its latent powers.
Obviously Type: Null isn't an organic Pokémon, it was created in a lab of some sort. This can correlate to Team Rocket & Mewtwo, Team Rocket wanting to recreate Mew from it's rarity and strength & Team Skull wanting to recreate a Pokémon with the rarest of strengths to adapt to any situation. (PS not sure if Team Skull created Type: Null, if the Aether Foundation created it, it could be a hint they might turn out like Team Rocket, who knows?)

Anyways, that's just a fun little theory to think about! Feel free to add onto this little thought & comment your opinions below!

Wait... I thought Mewtwo was created by a bunch of scientists that were trying to recreate Mew as a pokemon for unknown purposes but I don't remember Team Rocket ever being a part of that, and I think that the Cinnabar Mansion had burned down many years before Team Rocket had formed. I think I remember that from not only the game but the first movie.

Completely ignoring that, actually Alola being the future of Kanto would be an interesting twist, I will admit it would require some serious explanation, but it would be a hell of a curve ball, but they could totally pull it off. They have done lore and various explanations for things that I think are way weirder than this theory.

When you first started explaining your theory and how it was connected to "Pangea", I thought the direction you were taking this was that, Alola way in the past was attached to Kanto, and that was how the original 150 migrated over to Alola and then over time tectonic plates shifted and Alola detached from Kanto becoming a seperate region.
I think that would be a really interesting and plausible direction they could take, but I don't know how likely it would be.

Interesting idea, but for Kanto to be divided into Alola Islands actually took a lot of time to make it happen, and Dexio and Sina did appear in the game (either few years after XY crisis or it's on the same timeline).

It's not totally impossible, remember where HG/SS the Cinnabar Island did totally sink because of volcano eruption (poor Blaine). Or you could say that Alola is the future Sevii Islands, since Kanto and Johto Pokemon could be found in Sevii Islands as well. Nonetheless an interesting theory that could work with some solid explanation. ^^

Team Rocket's involvement with Mewtwo is in the movies (and anime?) only; in-game Mewtwo's creation was almost exclusively handled by Dr. Fuji, who, although he was kidnapped by Team Rocket for an unknown reason, is never hinted at to be involved with them.

This is an interesting theory but in my opinion all these connections aren't meant to hint that Alola is Kanto; rather, it's meant to just be like a hyper-throwback/homage to Kanto. The games are so chock-full of gen 1 pandering that they've even got similar themes going on such as Pokémon experimentation being at the forefront of at least one heavily-utilized Pokémon.

Also, if Alola is in fact Kanto in some way, wouldn't the Kanto Pokémon be the last ones who need to adapt? It would be their home turf, after all.

Yeah, that would mean that either:
-Sun and Moon exist in their own timeline (which is unlikely)
-They take place millions of years after ORAS
OR (most likely, going with OP's theory)
-The events of some game after HGSS severely altered the ocean's tides and stuff, and so the water level rose significantly, creating what is known as the Alola region. Perhaps something related to the legendaries of Gen 7 (the Moon helps to control our tides).

Going off of that last one, perhaps it's a split timeline in which Kyogre wasn't harnessed in AS?

And during the explosion of Kanto, the weather suddenly got super tropical so Exeggutor got super tall and professor's took their shirts off? And what is presumably an ancient temple appeared that wasn't in Kanto? And all the mountains disappeared and a big new one showed up?

This is a very interesting idea, but I agree with some of the others that it wouldn't work out in terms of time and geology.

However, I like the idea... Maybe Alola exists in a different dimension and some of the Pokemon from Kanto were sucked in through a black hole or something?! O.O

...This is completely implausible, but it would be cool D:
