Very nice article! Though not perfect, simplicity seemed to work just fine for the first installments of the franchise, and considering the target audience it shouldn't have been more than this. Even if I did start with the slightly more plot-filled Silver, very little stuck with me because I was very young; I just liked fighting with my Pokes and exploring the world. So though flawed, I still think it is the perfect game for six or seven-year-olds, and pretty much timeless.

A good article. Certainly the plot wasn't the main focus of the first generation, but it was enough to give a little bit of color to the games.

Minor nitpick: there's actually more NPCs than just Team Rocket and Sabrina who have whips. :P

In Koga's gym, right? Can't remember the trainer class.

    NIce article!

Although I always liked to prefer RBY as a game with no plot. That sort of added a sense of adventure without being constantly told what to do and where to go. (Unlike new games)

You can also do some badges a different order if you'd like, which I liked.
