Kanto - Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee

Wow, I was always under the impression that 'lee was the more popular pick. Like most here, I went with 'chan.

I had it on my team in either Red or Yellow bc I remember trying to use it w/ Strength to move the infamous truck. 😅
 
Hitmonchan, but they both had lousy potential in RBY/GSC/FRLG.

I prefer Hitmonchan because Hitmonlee's kicking gimmick did not interest me. Hitmonlee is held back by inaccurate moves (Rolling Kick, Mega Kick) or recoil damage (Jump Kick, High Jump Kick). Meanwhile, Hitmonchan has the elemental punches, obtains the Iron Fist ability, and benefits from generation 4+ because of the physical/special split.
 
I definitely picked Hitmonchan first time through. The elemental punches were too cool to deny as a kid, even though I never actually used it. It wasn't until a good few playthroughs later did I start picking Hitmonlee.
