I really like how a lot of thought goes into designing pokemon. (ditto too???)
Many pokemon are taken from legends, but then there are some like Lampent and Trubbish, which are daily life stuff. That makes me happy

it's just purists who don't know what they're talking about who complain. liking Pokemon is purely subjective and we're all entitled to our own opinion, but if you try to put down others for their preferences, then that's another thing.

The feeling to me is that Pokemon are inspired by Shinto Kami, it's one of the reasons I love pokemon so much. A lot are based on various Yokai and also on other legends, animals and creatures from around the world. I won't start talking religions here but if you look at Pokemon from a Shinto perspective, then there is no such thing as a "stupid" pokemon. Except, of course, for Hypno 😉
