Legendaries

Every game has their own set of legendary Pokémon, which you could encounter by triggering certain events. Before hunting for them, though, what do you do to prepare yourself? Once you get to run into them, what is your usual strategy for capturing? Does it work? After you're done capturing these legends, do you ever use them in battle, or just stick them into your PC and never look at them again?

Legendaries don't excite me as much as they used to, to the point where I may not bother catching them at all. If I do, I'll bring something with Paralysis, since Sleep is hard to come by at high levels. After I catch them, they usually go straight to the Box, never to see the light of day. The main exceptions are the title legendaries, which I'll use on occasion.

Unless if it's Articuno, most of the legendaries I catch are for dex entries, pretty much. Articuno is the only legendary I use for my Kanto team.

I usually don't prepare myself for a legendary capture. I tend to prepare well in advance without realizing it, so whenever I end up encountering a legendary I'd know what to do.

I just use a master ball on anything with capture rate of 3.

I used to enjoy the challenge of catching legendaries, but nowadays I don't want to really bother.

The majority of legendaries I catch (I usually try to catch all of them, because it gives me something to do and they make for good trading fodder) just sit in the box, but some of them do see some use.

My general strategy is stock up on balls, bring something with Thunder Wave (since paralysis is the most reliable status effect; no chance of it wearing off or killing the poke, except on stuff immune to paralysis), save in front of it, whittle down its HP to a low amount, paralyze it, then start throwin' them balls.

Or in the case of wandering legendaries, Master Ball that ♥♥♥♥. I aint chasing them all over the place.

I'll buy 30 ultra balls and 30 timer balls before the encounter, bring pokémon with False Swipe and Thunder Wave, and wait patiently for the balls to do their job. After capture, I'll just leave the legendary in the PC or use it for trade fodder over the GTS. Ever since the oversaturation of legendary pokémon in GenIV, they fail to excite me anymore. :/

Nower days i dont prepare myself that much, simply because there is sooo many legendaries and i dont bother getting them all.
I used to be very meticulous though: I would buy around 30 Hyper Balls and 20 Time Balls. I would make sure i had a Pokemon that knew Thunder Wave to paralyze, which would be my lead. From there on, paralyze on the first turn and try to get the health bar to the red zone. If that wasnt enough, i would use my weakest pokemon and not very effective moves to weaken the legendary a bit more.

False Swipe had been my best friend since it was introduced. That, Paralysis, and a few Ultra Balls usually do the trick.

I usually don't use Legendaries until post-game, because they tend to be OP for the most part against anything before the Elite Four.

I'll aim for them to fill the 'Dex- but I definitely feel that Gens 3/4/5 simply loaded way too many onto the roster.

On a completely separate note- ♥♥♥♥ing Lugia and it's ♥♥♥♥ing Recover. Definitely the 'mon that I've had the most trouble catching.
