Welp, only 20 items to use, so this could end badly. Anyway, let's get started right away. I picked the female character, like usual, because it's a running theme with this series that the female character looks far better than the male. With all the usual opening game stuff out of the way, I went and picked up my starter, in which I went for Oshawott because of my preference for the Water type starter. After the easy tutorial battle, Bianca decides to make my life harder by taking half of my item slots away by giving me Poke Balls. Wow, thanks Bianca. Even better, right before entering Route 19, I get another item. Stop doing this to me already, game. I only just started the dang game.
Anyway, things are fairly straightforward, but I did pick up a Paralyz Heal and a Poke Ball before heading to the ranch, putting my item total at 13. Why did I pick the one game where there are tons of earlygame items laying around and just so happened to get the one condition that restricts my total items? Anyway, ranch time. I wasted 3 of my Poke Balls to catch a Riolu since it was Level 7, so it was already nicely caught up and to waste some items. With that, Anubis joins the team, and it's back to the Pokemon Center to heal up. After that, it's time for Rival 2. I actually forgot Rival 2 only still has his starter, so Anubis made quick work of it. After that, the owner's wife...gave me a Potion. Bruh, I'm trying to
not have tons of stuff. At least it's still a heal spot. Anyway, the ranch was fairly uneventful. Although, after Anubis got paralyzed by the janitor's Mareep and I used my Paralyz Heal, Hugh comes and gives me another one. Bruh. I also picked up the X Attack, which I'll use in the gym, and another Potion. Since TMs are a free space, I'll gladly keep the Frustration TM the Team Plasma guy happened to toss at me.
Alder's "training" consisted of blowing up two mons with Anubis for some free experience, and now it's off to the gym...at least I want to say that, but the creepy medal guy is just like "don't say anything and take this box. Don't ask questions either. Goodbye." With that aside, on the way back, Alder gives me Oran Berries because of course he does. These NPCs love to make things harder for me, don't they? Actually, yes, because I forgot Clyde gives you a Fresh Water when you walk into the gym AND Gen 5 doesn't have a PC item storage, so any items that go over the limit either have to be used on the spot, sold, or thrown away. I swear, I have all the luck to pull this condition first.
(Also I wrote most of this before the first two Global Rules, so I'm going to temporarily ignore them, but that also means I'll have to catch new mons after I finish the first gym. No other Water types aside from Psyduck are even able to be caught at this point, anyway. Azurill doesn't count because it's a Normal type.)
Continuing that other point, since I'm temporarily ignoring the second Global Rule (not like it matters because there are no Fire types in the general area, anyway, and I picked a Water starter), I'll apply The Storm from the 2nd gym to the 5th gym, which means, yay, no Fire moves for Clay's Excadrill.
Anyway, gym trainers are gym trainers, and then Cheren wins by critting both of my mons because of course he does. Anyway, attempt 2, I changed approach and led with Lancelot, my Oshawott. He dealt with the Patrat just fine, but then got taken out by Lillipup. For the memes, I went for Counter with Anubis and won because Lillipup went for Tackle on the second attack and I lived on 8 HP. With that, we get our first badge and lose our entire team. Fantastic.
The Team
Irrelevant. They're all getting banished anyway.
