    [PokeCommunity.com] Let's talk: Magearna

So in today's leak from CoroCoro we discovered the much speculated typing for Magearna. To pretty much everyone's non-surprise she is Steel/Fairy Typed, making her the second Mythic Pokemon with Fairy as a typing.

This gives her a pretty distinct battle capabilities thanks to her type match ups.

Sharing the same type as Klefki, her match ups are as shown:

Normal Damage from: Fighting, Ghost, Steel, Water, and Electric Types.
Weak to: Fire and Ground Types.
Immune to: Poison and Dragon Types.
Resistant to: Normal, Flying, Rock, Bug, Grass, Psychic, Ice, Dark, and Fairy Types.

Fairy Types have a fairly high Special Attack and Special Defense stat on average. Being a Mythic Pokemon Magearna's stats will total out at 600 and could fall the way of the general mythic spread, all 100s, or follow Diancie's spread and focus on defensive stats or special stats due to both it's Steel and Fairy Typing.

What do you think she'll be like? What types of moves do you think she'd learn? What do you think about Magearna as a Pokemon, Legend, or even in general? How do you think she'll affect today's current Meta? Do you have any hopes for her? Do you plan on using her in your play through if you can get her early like we did with Victini?

(Didn't see a general discussion about Magearna. Saw a thread about what we'd think her "role" would be within the new games, but I wanted a bit more discussion since we still don't have much more than her typing now.)

I am really glad they finally completely confirmed this to be honest. So it isn't a disappointment later on. As in, in the middle of Sun and Moon stuff, and then suddenly we lose a month just to get the typing of it.

As for the stats, I think it will be similar to Diancie. And it really hasn't been 100 across sense Sinnoh. They have been changing the stats a lot. I think it will be a more advanced version of Mawile, so these are the stats that I think.

    Spoiler:

This generation could introduce some physical fairy attacks. The main purpose is to counter its fire weakness, because fire resists fairy. So having protection from most fire attacks, would be the best thing I think.

I would think it would have slow speed, mainly due to it being made of cogs, it just makes me think it should be slower. Plus, I just think it would be slower with the way it is made.

I am not a competitive battler at all, so I could be totally wrong lol.

I think Magearna's stats might end up similar to Diancie, especially given they have similar body proportions. Magearna's Steel-type means it'll likely have high Defense, but also the high Special Defense Fairy-types tend to have.

I can see her mainly being a special attacker, but balanced stats wouldn't be bad. Speed being her lowest stat would make sense since the bottom part of her body looks kinda heavy. The main thing I'm curious about is what ability she'll get because that could play a part in how good she'll be competitively.

I could see Magearna outclassing Diancie and a new addition to OU because of its Steel typing, and we all know how dominant Steel types are in OU.

Given the similarities to Diancie in appearance I could see Magearna being an offensive variant of her - so, swapping Diancie's 150 base defenses for 150 base offenses, and keeping all other stats the same. It doesn't really look like an all-100 base stat Pokemon to me; those are typically the "secret" ones that don't get revealed until after the game's releases, I think.

I expect she'll wind up in OU or something; I haven't battled competitively in years and have no idea how these things work now. She'll always be outclassed by Diancie unless she gets a Mega I suspect, but then if she's more of an attacker maybe she'll slot into her own little niche somewhere.

I don't think it'll be similar to Diancie honestly. If anything I think it will have similarities to Genesect, due to being part Steel. Just because it's the unfortunate first Pokemon revealed and has a Fairy typing doesn't mean it'll be like Diancie. Genesect, like Diancie, was made. I know it looks cute but Genesect also looked harmless and boom. It also appears taller than the other cute mythical legendaries. Put it side-by-side with the rest and it doesn't really fit the mould that has been established, so I think it will match Genesect, if anything, stats-wise. Another reason for it being similar to Genesect is well... look at its hands lol.

    Speculation incoming!

I think it will be explained that Magearna was made by fusing Klink, P. Kyogre, Electrode, Plusle, Chinchou, Genesect and something else I'm not sure of yet. Thus, stats-wise, it will have similarities to all of those. Probably Kyogre's special attack, Genesect's attack, Electrode's speed, Plusle's Sdef, Chinchou's Def and Klink's HP. Or something along those lines.

...keep in mind that if I'm right, Pokemon fusion will probably be applying to other Pokemon as well. Magearna just happened to be first.

I think that to obtain her you might need to own one of all those Pokemon (but maybe not the primal forme of Kyogre - a primal Kyogre pokedoll for example would do) and you bring it to a dude who... recreates Magearna. Sounds crazy but there's too many similarities to other Pokemon for it not to be true. Thus with that said it'll make Magearna probably a late game-suitable for e4 Pokemon, in which case, yeah, I'll use it. For moves I think it'll learn the basic Fairy-type moves and not take after anything it was 'fused' with except maybe one move or something.

Genesect was not totally made up tho, they used a fossil and enhanced it. Genesect may be around the same family as Kabutops, Scyther seems to be the modern Kabutops that adapted to live on land.

Also only Kabutops got mentionned to be at least 300million years old like the fossil mentioned in Genesect Pokedex entry.

If anything, she'll probably have a form change move or ability that allows her to withdraw into and emerge from the Pokéball-shaped bottom segment and switch her stats around. Stats would probably be something like:

    Normal form:
    HP: 50
    Attack: 200
    Defense: 50
    SP.Attack: 200
    SP.Def: 50
    Speed: 150

    Ball form:
    HP: 50
    Attack: 20
    Defense:300
    Sp.attack:25
    SP.Def:300
    Speed: 15

That might be a bit OP, so the form change should be triggered with a move to make room for a good balancing ability.
    For example:

    Malfunction
Magearna has a 30% Chance of becoming paralyzed when hit with any attack. This chance becomes 75% when hit with a water-type attack.

So basically, she could be an exceptional sweeper, but due to being built with some reaaaaaally old hardware, she isn't entirely reliable. To further that aspect, her form change move could have a 10% chance of not working and instead dealing a small amount of damage to her.

That ability you made doesn't look friendly at all. I could see something like Levitate working, or even Pixilate if she doesn't get much natural Fairy-type moves and can instead rely on Normal moves.

It's not exactly supposed to be a "good" ability, it's supposed to be a balancing ability, as I stated.

A legendary that can go from 200 in both attack stats to 300 in both defense stats could be really, really OP without an ability that holds it back a bit. Of course that could horribly backfire and turn her into Regigigas 2.0

Of course, I could be wrong and her stats might just be lower than I'm expecting. In that case, yeah, levitate could work well. Although it's always nice to see unique abilities on legendaries.

I can see your point. While it can be nice to give some legendaries unique abilities, having regular common abilities can sometimes be just as good.

I'm very excited to get my hands on Magearna. She looks so steampunk posh and I just want her because she looks cute and powerful at the same time.

Okay this is my first time seeing this poke and my first thought is its a bakugan.

I think it's adorable! And I kinda hope that whatever event unlocks Magearna also unlocks a smaller, extra storyline.
And I wonder if it will be mentioned somewhere in the game? Maybe an NPC mentioning a story, or something.
(And yeah, probably really slow. Maybe Magearna can learn Gyro Ball?)

I really hope there would be a mini quest after getting her. More story content always makes things better when it comes to legendaries :D

I'd be interested in her backstory, as she does look like a steampunky artificial Diancie. I want to know how and how that is a thing.

I would also be interested in getting her in game/ seeing her stats and what not. Could be cool. However, I agree with you guys' thoughts on her being similar to Diancie in that respect as well.
