    ..overly violent or stupid.

Been watching too many depressing shows lately anyone and need to lift my mood a bit, got any ideas?

I'm still quite new to "Anime" but something like Clannad would be awsums.

    Thanks in advance.

Maybe you should try Lovely Complex, it's a slapstick anime that's sometimes heart warming and other times sad.

Gurren Lagann. That is all. It has a good dosage of everything.
But the violent or..."over-the-top" quota is maybe a little too high.

If you want something that's just fun to watch, moderately paced, not overly depressing or psychologically complicated, I recommend Aria the Animation and its sequels, Aria the Natural and Aria the Origination. It has its fair share of heartwarming and comedic moments, but can occasionally be poignant (especially in the two sequels). Others I would recommend in this category would be Natsume Yuujinchou, Kobato, and Mushishi.

If more Clannad-like shows are what you're looking for, why not try Kanon (2006) if you haven't already? Otherwise, ef - a tale of memories, True Tears, or Kimi ni Todoke might do the trick for you.

    Hmm...
Like Jordan said Kanon would be good, "H20: Footprints in the sand" is also heartwarming.

There are really a million different anime out there that would fit. I tend to only watch comedies though, so this isn't sad at all, but I think K-On! would be pretty close to what you want.

Hm...Well maybe you could try watching AIR? Its sweet, has its funny moments, and is pretty sad. It does have some roll-your-eye moments but overall its a very heartwarming series!

Honey and Clover. Heartwarming, funny, a little sad, maybe a tad existentialist. The funny parts are awesome though.

I don't know about much anime that are like that, but you should definitely read Bitter Virgin. It's only about 25 issues and there are a lot of dramatic scenes, but the more upbeat moments are really good.

    A little sad? It's one of the most depressing shoujo manga I've ever read. XD;

...I still say it's a good choice! It's one of my favorite anime and manga for good reason, you just need to prepare for let downs in where you think relationships might go.

Anywho, I think Turn-A Gundam fits all the requisites nicely. The show isn't as over dramatic as a lot of recent entries into the franchise are, it's got a quirky main character and I've always loved that it's a mecha series set in an almost Victorian-like era with biplanes flying around and the most impressive weapons humans on earth having are tanks. The action is definitely more unique because of these aspects, and because of that, it doesn't actually overpower the story. I was pretty surprised to see no Gundam in the first episode and that it didn't actually have a prominent appearance until the third.

    Azumanga Azumanga Azumanga Azumanga.

    K-On is good, but...

Dear Kanako, I can't stomach too much of it at one time.

As some one said, "It's a show about moeblobs moeblobbing around."

Azumanga actually has characterization and stuff.

    Just throwing some down here

    Kobato
    Kimi ni Todoke
    Eve no Jikan
    AIR
    Kanon
    Hanamaru Kindergarten
    Kure-nai
Hidamari Sketch - it IS a cute girls doing cute things, but it's a lot lighter and less otaku-y than others
Strawberry Marshmallow - Speaking of cute girls doing cute things, this ones great
Cross Game - Ok, so it's a baseball anime, but it's good, and focuses on character development a lot.

Kanon 2006. It's also by Key, who made Clannad.

Wow so many suggestions, I've watched a few epps of Lovely Complex which seems about right atm.

Will watch through this list though. Thanks/.

If you're wanting something that's just really happy, try Narutaru. I mean... just look at its opening. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIF5BLyh3Mk

But seriously, don't watch it. It's the most messed up horror anime ever made.
    Lolz, that reminds me...

I've never seen Higurashi, but from the videos I've seen, you'd think it was sweeter and more diabetic than K-On!

I haven't seen it either, but I expect they make the characters really cute/lovable so it's more tragic when bad stuff is happening. Otherwise you really wouldn't care what happens to them.
