Disclaimer - I am not looking to write these myself. Not that I am not interested - but I do not have the time right nor and have other article ideas I would rather tackle instead. So, this is also a call for someone, or someones, to help drive at least part of it. I'm willing to help, but I won't do it myself. I'm clearly not managing already with e.g. name rater and fan work feature (although granted I have plenty of imo good excuses =p). Another factor - I just do not do battling, and only have a passable knowledge on the current state of VGC (too much Incineroar still, for example!) So if these articles were to have a large focus on that topic, I'm not going to be much help.

Back in the early days of Daily, we had numerous Make-a-Mega articles: https://daily.pokecommunity.com/?s=make-a-mega The gist: a thread was made for the PC community to come up with a mega form for a Pokemon - what stats got buffed, Ability, and how it would function in the meta. And someone also did the design, which doubled as the article cover image. We had several examples which were imo quite neat!

Is there interest from people for this series to return? A motivator is that a new Pokemon Legends game is coming, and it clearly teased mega evolutions. A thread could be made in that forum section, as well as the art section, to turn into an article, until release (or even after release if it proves popular).

Yes, this is so cool! Considering that megas are returning, I think this is a very cool idea! I even have some old drawings of mine when I created a couple of mega pokemon.
On the competitive side, I think that it's kinda pointless: Megas might come back, but only in Z-A, which is an "isolated" game, and therefore VGC won't probably happen there anyway. Considering that megas aren't in the actual competitive game anymore, I guess one could just work with some fantasy or trying to make an older pokemon "more interesting", rather than useful.

I'd be down to help with a return to the series. I couldn't do it all the time but, when I do, I'll do what I can.
    Noted!

Good point. If people really do want to write about the competitive side, then they can IMO, but fine to go without and focus more on the design, and maybe the lore side of it too. Fake dex entries for them perhaps?

I mostly meant that rather than trying to focus too much on the competitive scene, aka trying to find a spot for a new mega into the actual metagame, one should work on making the Pokemon more interesting on its own (for example: better typing, changing the stat distribuito, ecc.). One could also try to work more on a more interesting design or typing combo that might not be too good for the competitive part. I tried to explain It at my best lol, but i think it's hard to express.
Overall, i wasn't saying that we should eliminate the competitive part, which is instead One of the coolest parts when making a new Pokemon in general. And of course the lore and fake entries ideas are all very cool!

I think it's a really interesting idea! I agree with _confused_piplup_ that competitive/VGC shouldn't be too focused on, but I'm totally down with putting a thread in Z-A for this if it ends up happening. I'd also like to help out with writing the articles if possible.

While I'm not sure if I could contribute much, I do think this is a series that warrants a return now with Legends: Z-A on the horizon. As an additional thought: while competitive details can be nice to include, if we're doing this to align with Z-A, not only was Arceus not VGC-compatible, it did not feature held items or even Abilities—even base stats were calculated differently. Z-A may include Abilities since that was a key component of Mega Evolution, but we can't be certain how much the gameplay will align with the "main branch" of the mainline games (Scarlet/Violet, Sword/Shield, etc.). Focusing too much on competitive viability may not be practical in this round of Make-a-Megas, although I think at least coming up with theoretical Abilities would be fun.

Belated ping quotes. Reviving the idea!

Let's just get the ball rolling here, as I think we agreed more or less on the content.

I suggest given the month we are in that we do an Ice-type Pokemon for starters. Either we do a quick forum poll from a few ideas, or we pick one that we reckon would easily want a mega. I'm nominating Dewgong(ongong) for instance. Then we make a new thread in the Legends Z-A section, and also in art/writing sections. Give a rough month for things to be put together as a starting point, and go from there. Thoughts?

We could use Social medias too for polls, maybe?

I feel like it should go to PGen not Z-A, unless Megas were confirmed and I missed it? I think a brief poll is the way to go. Back when I was doing the previous MaM articles we did it as a series of short polls in the order of Pokemon, Type additions, Ability, Stats iirc.
Megas are pretty much confirmed in ZA as the last pic in the trailer shows the mega symbol.

My hesitation is that it may distract from other things we'll be posting in the first week, and also extend the period of just selecting a Pokemon to get started with. I want to get this going already, haha. So one 'platform' for any voting will suffice here.
