Money makes the world go round. I know that may seem a little bit bad, but it's a harsh reality to the world in which we live in. Unfortunately, a lot of elements in our lives run around the concept of money, and many people cannot live without a substantial amount of it. There are those rare cases where people forgo a simple life and don't dwell in the consumerism elements that seem to dictate many of our lives, but as stated that's a small minority. Whether we like it or not, the amount of money one has can become a powerful factor in the way we are perceived by others, the amount of opportunities that are given to us, and for some dictates how happy they are about their lives.

I digress; the main reason why I just wanted to bring up that point was that I was recently given an opportunity for an increase in my pay. As some of you may know, I currently work at a local movie drive-in, one that is one of ~200 left in the country. I've been working at this place for about 5 years now, and it's been by far one of the best jobs I've ever had. As of right now, I've simultaneously been working and taking classes for college, so it's been a little bit strenuous but still a joy to do. This past summer was especially hectic considering I worked 40 hours at the drive in and then another 30+ at a Dunkin Donuts nearby, but I eventually gave up the job at DD because let's face it, that place just sucks.

    Spoiler:
Anyways, this past summer has been pretty hectic at our drive in. The drive-in, which had been family owned and run for the past 50+ years, was bought out by Phantom Gourmet, a food TV network, and there was a big transition between the old management and new management. A lot of things from the old formula have been changed, including an addition of a bar (which we had a strict no alcohol stance beforehand), live events (like the Jimmy Buffett event we held earlier this summer), but more importantly, the lengthening of our season from the beginning of September to the beginning of November.

    Spoiler:
I'll be pretty blunt; I worked my ass off this past summer. I took a lot of initiative and worked 1-on-1 with my boss on off days doing a lot of behind the work stuff, and I became a big leading force in the workplace environment. I'm really not trying to be egotistical and toot my own horn or anything of that sorts; I'm just stating the facts. The reason why I bring this point up is because a few weeks ago, the new owners called me into their office for a surprise performance review. They said that I did a "kickass" job this summer and that they feel that my skills were not pushed to their limits, so they offered me a promotion to an Assistant Manager position. It's pretty exciting to say the least; it's the first time that I've ever gotten a promotion, and I'll be now in charge of doing training for new people, doing a lot of the food order, as well as having a major voice in the advancement of progress for the future of the establishment. Best part: pay raise. I won't go into the specifics of how much I make, but let's just say it's a pretty big amount. I don't plan on doing this as a career, but it's a good fallback plan in case things go awry.

But yeah; it's been a pretty exciting last few weeks for me when it comes to my job, and I'm just excited that my hard work is finally paying off. What about you guys? Do you enjoy your job? Do you feel that you are being payed enough, or do you feel like you are underpaid? Feel free to comment below with your thoughts and opinions and I'd love to hear and discuss with you what you have to say about the matter!

When I worked at FedEx, within my first month I was offered an assistant manager position. Be proud of the work you put in and toot your own horn because you deserve it.

I didn't take the promotion because I was already juggling 30+ hours of work a week on top of full-time school. I had no complete days off and slept most of what little time I had off to recover from a previous day's work/school combo.

Send me money. Please. jk :)

My current workplace is pretty chill. I work at a clothing store and my assignments vary. Working at the front-end is pretty high-energized. Working at the fitting room can get boring but at least you get to interact with customers. Working at the stockroom is fun, especially when my co-workers are football fans and have a TV there, so that way we don't have to miss the game.

I really do like my co-workers, even made a pretty good friend in one. We're texting constantly now, and that's awesome. Only downside is that payday is bi-weekly, but at least we work pretty good hours. (Getting up to 20-24 hours a week yay~)
